Joy Braswell | d. March 9, 2010

Joy BraswellJoy Braswell, 58, Gladstone, MO passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at his home. He was born July 8, 1951 in Blue Eye, MO to Raymond and Roxie Irene (Taylor) Braswell. He attended North Kansas City High School. Joy spent his entire working career as a self employed upholsterer. He enjoyed playing golf, listening to music and spending time with his friends at Brock’s Bar and Grill and numerous other establishments in the Northland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Randy Braswell and one sister, Wanda Moffis. Survivors include one son, Jesse Braswell, Pleasant Valley, MO; two daughters, Cody Braswell, Kansas City, MO and Julie Braswell, Deer Park, WI; one brother, Raymond (Junior) Braswell, Garfield, AR; two sisters, Donna Coffman, Alpena, AR and Debra French, Springdale, AR; four grandchildren, Jared, Taylor, Kaitlyn and Hunter. He also leaves behind numerous extended family and close friends.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Joy’s life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 13th at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Joy Braswell Memorial Fund and may be left in care of the funeral home.


Richard L. Hamilton | d. March 8, 2010

Richard L. HamiltonRichard L. Hamilton, 57, Gladstone, MO passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at North Kansas City Hospital. He was born Jan 29, 1953 in Sacramento, CA to Thomas and Patricia A. (Fisher) Hamilton. He graduated from Park Hill High School in 1970.

Richard spent the majority of his working years as a carpenter. He specialized in custom home building as well as commercial construction. Richard enjoyed the great outdoors. He had a love for flying, hiking and spending time on the water.

Survivors include his mother, Patricia of Kansas City, MO; father, Thomas and wife Joyce of Denison, TX; sister, Sherri Evola (Vincent) of Kansas City, MO; three brothers, Harold Hamilton (Diana) of Grand Junction, CO, Michael Hamilton (Lois) of Excelsior Springs, MO and Arthur Bud Erickson of Kansas City, KS.

Memorial service 11a.m. Friday, March 12th at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152 where visitation with the family will begin at 10 a.m. Contributions are suggested to the Molia Shrine, 701 Noyes, St. Joseph, MO 64506.


Helen Jo Vassar | d. March 8, 2010

Helen Jo Vassar, 66, Gladstone, Mo passed away Monday, March 8, 2010 at the St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. She was born June 4, 1943 in Kansas City, Mo to Joseph and Josephine (Eakins) Ventura. Shee attended schools in Kansas City. Helen was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family. She was member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in the Northland.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Vassar in 1982. Survivors include her sister, JoAnne Baynham of Claycomo, Mo; three nieces, Samantha Hall, Stephanie Love, Crickett Souder; 1 nephew, Andrew Souders; two great nieces, Kenzy Love, Elizabeth Love; 1 uncle, William Eakins; two cousins, Terry Eakins and Roxanne Higbee.

Graveside services and burial will be 2pm Thursday, March 11, 2010 at Forest Hill-Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Anthony Pileggi officiating. Contributions are suggested to St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 4737 N. Cleveland, Mo 64117.


Michael Jon Morgan | d. March 2, 2010

Michael Jon Morgan, 53, rural Platte County, MO resident passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at his home. He was born August 11, 1956 in Wyandotte County, KS to Donald and Margaret A. (Stiglich) Morgan. He graduated from Platte City High School and later attended Lynn Technical College near Columbia, MO.

John was employed by CSX where he worked as a refrigerator tech on rail cars. He was baptized at and attended St. Therese Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Donna Knox. Survivors include his mother, Margaret (Marge) of the home, a sister, Rita Thomas and husband Ronald of Weston, MO and a brother, David Morgan and wife Cherrish of Platte County.

Mr. Morgan has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville. Private burial of the cremated remains will be held at Hampton Cemetery in Platte County.


Carolyn Hoverder | d. March 2, 2010

Carolyn HoverderCarolyn Hoverder, 83, lifelong Kansas City, Mo resident passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at New Mark Care Center in the Northland. She was born October 19, 1926 to Clifford D. and Juanita N. (White) Williams. She was a graduate of Northeast High School and attended the former Kansas City Business College. In her early years she was employed by the former Gernes Garment Co. in Kansas City. Carolyn was a former member of the Oakley United Methodist Church in the northeast area. She was a devoted homemaker and loved her family very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Clifford D. Williams, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Wallace P. (Wally) Hoverder of the home; two sons, Tim S. Hoverder and wife Charlotte of Kansas City, Mo and Jim S. Hoverder and wife Amber of Smithville, Mo; one daughter, Christy L. Hoverder of Los Angelos, Calif; one sister, Veronica Mahrle of Sacramento, Calif; four grandchildren, William, Catherine, Austin and Alexa.

A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held 2pm Saturday, March 6th at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville. Visitation 1-2 pm prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to the Disabled Veteran’s Association.
