Ronald Lee Besser Sr | d. June 19, 2009

Ronald Lee Besser SrRon died peacefully on June 19, 2009 with me by his side. I am his wife, Delores, friend and companion for thirty plus years.

Ronald Lee Besser Sr. was born on January 22, 1950 in Topeka Kansas . He was the first of four children born to Walter and Rosella Besser.

Ron loved books, the space program, Sci-Fi and Star Trek! He loved family get-togethers, road trips and to watch his “no fear” son Ron, play soccer as Goal Keeper. He liked to watch movies, reality shows, documentaries and Fox News.

He knew he wanted to be a nuclear engineer at 12 years of age. He tried very hard to make this dream come true! He worked 2-3 jobs during high school and summers. He graduated from N. Kansas City High School and went on to graduate from the University of Missouri at Rolla with a degree in metallurgical engineering with a nuclear engineering option. During college he lived in an attic he couldn’t stand up in! As he tells me: “To save money, I ate a lot of cheap outdated food, bacon rinds, cookies and milk”!

Ron started his career with Bechtel in San Francisco and ended his career with Bechtel at Hanford WA . The Nuclear industry went through a lot of changes during his career; which was very disappointing to Ron. Due to his health Ron had taken early retirement in April, 2009.

His first car was a Chevy Vega; He would still have it today if the engine had not fallen out on the freeway. I had it towed away and bought a new car! He never threw away anything! He got the Vega fixed up and gave it away to a single mother without a car. He would give the shirt off his back and his last dime if somebody needed it!

Ron Jr was born to us on April 14th 1982 ; Ron Jr was the delight of his life, and he enjoyed every moment we spent with him! We went to every soccer, football, and hockey game from grade school thru college! Ron Sr was very pleased when Ron Jr married Jennifer Tyhurst on May 7th 2005 . Ron and Jenn now live in Bailey Colorado where Ron Jr is a director of a World Impact Christian youth camp. Ron and Jenn work with Inner City youth, they will both graduate with Masters Degrees in May 2010.

In 2008 we adopted four puppies, Buzz and Rosie (Yorkies).Sophia and Sammy (Maltese) Ron Sr adored them, and they would snuggle on him when he napped on the couch! They brought so much life to our home and such a smile to Ron. While he was sick Sophia and Rosie never left his side. They would take turns sleeping with him in the hospital bed.

Although Ron Sr is no longer with us here on earth, he is in heaven with His Savior and Lord Jesus Christ! In heaven he will join his Mother Rosella, his father Walter Jr, baby brother Walter the III, Mother In Law Luella and Father in Law Ralph. Brother in law Douglas and Step Grandson Brad.

Ron will always and forever be a part of us! Those who are left to cherish his memory are me, his wife Delores Besser, his son Ron Besser Jr. and his wife Jenn, his brother Cliff Besser and his wife Cindy, his sister Elizabeth and her son Chad . Step children Ginger, Tammie and Randy. Eight Step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren. Cousins Al Jr, David, Mike Danny and Christine.

Ron Sr requested a Memorial service in Kansas City MO. It will be held at Meyers Northland Funeral Chapel, Parkville , MO on Friday the 26th of June at 7PM and buried the next day in Rochester Cemetery Besser Family Plot.

In lieu of flowers Ron Sr expressed his wishes of donations to be made to World Impact, a Christian mission’s organization dedicated to ministering God’s love in the inner city. Donations in the memory of Ronald Besser Sr may be mailed to World Impact, Inc 2001 S. Vermont Ave. Los Angeles CA 90007. Donations of sympathy may also be given in memory of Ronald Besser Sr, for World Impact at any branch of GESA Credit Union.
