John Paul Cherne | d. January 28, 2009
John Paul Cherne, 66, Kansas City, MO passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at St. Luke’s Northland Hospital. He was born May 27, 1942 in Chicago, IL and raised by his mother Eula (Schillie) Ingram. She preceded him in death.
John was a graduate of East High School in Kansas City and a veteran of the United States Navy. He married Marilyn Burch on June 24, 1967 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Franklin, PA.
He was employed by Trans World Airlines for 37 years. During the course of that 37 year period, he worked his way through the ranks having started out as a Ramp Serviceman and ending his career as the Northeast Regional Director. He was currently employed by Delta Global Service, a division of Delta Airlines, where he served as Operations Manager.
John was a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church, where he served as Usher and Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. He was a member of the Pope John Paul I Knight’s of Columbus Council #7199 and in his earlier years served as a Boy Scout leader. He spent many hours as a volunteer at North Kansas City Hospital. John was an avid storyteller and comedian. He enjoyed his annual fishing trips to Alaska, Golfing and spending time with his family and friends. Family came first to John and he was the type of person that never met a stranger.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his three children and their spouses, John Paul III and wife Tonya of Chattanuga, TN, Julie Ann Lamfers and husband Kent of Lenexa, KS, and Robert Patrick Cherne and wife Kelsey of Lee’s Summit, MO; two sisters, Diana Hazlett and husband Delby, Independence, MO and Francis Kirkendall and husband Richard, Kansas City, MO; a brother, Curtis Ingram and wife Cindy, Independence, MO; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Atir, Katie, Emily, Joe, Aspen, Sutter, Xander, Ashton, Brenham and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m. Saturday, January 31, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 NW 9 Highway, Kansas City, MO 64152 with Rev. Michael Roach as celebrant. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy. The family will receive friends from 4:30-7:30p.m. Friday at St. Therese, where a parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7:30p.m. under the direction of Rev. Pat Tobin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Vincent dePaul Society at St. Therese, Little Sisters of the Poor or the Cardiac Rehabilitation Unit at North Kansas City Hospital and may be left in care of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152 (816) 741-0251.
Robert John Black | d. January 22, 2009
Robert John Black, 65, a resident of Weatherby Lake, MO passed away peacefully, January 22, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was born October 31, 1943 in Detroit, MI to James Forrest Black and his wife Bernadette. He graduated in 1961 from Jesuit High School in Dallas, TX, and subsequently received his BA from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and his MBA from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
Bob was the loving husband of Colleen Carter Black. They were married on December 28, 1984 in Chicago, IL.
Bob was the Owner of Lightbulbs etc. and lightbulbsdirect.com in Lenexa, KS. He was a long time lover of bluegrass music and a founding member of The Blackbury Band.
He was a longtime member of the Brookridge Golf Club in Overland Park, KS and a member of HOBOT, a blue grass organization. He was a veteran of the United States Army, where he earned the rank of Captain during the Vietnam War, and received the Bronze Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Hamilton Black.
Bob is survived by his adoring wife Colleen of Weatherby Lake, MO; four daughters: Jennifer Black (Dan Cook) Brooklyn, NY; Maureen Black, Los Angeles, CA; Lisa Solomon, Lee’s Summit, MO; Amy Derning, Independence, MO; a son, Sean Eric Derning (Tracy), Lawrence, KS; a brother, Kenneth Black, Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Joan Austin, San Antonio, TX, Kathy Wheelock, Los Angeles, CA; three grandchildren, Brady Fuqua, Sam Derning and Keegan Derning.
The family will receive friends at the family home on Sunday from 4-7:00p.m. A celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 at the Unity Church of Overland Park with Rev. Patricia Bass officiating.

Julie Ann Hegarty | d. January 22, 2009
Julie Ann Hegarty, 54, of Atchison, Kansas passed away at her home on Thursday, January 22, 2009, surrounded by family and friends.
Julie was born December 30, 1954 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Georgia Huss and Andrew Pat Franken. She attended Troy Grade School, Mount St. Scholastica Academy, and St. Joseph Beauty School. She was a hairdresser for over 35 years in the Atchison community.
She married Patrick J. Hegarty on February 17, 1973 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Troy, Kansas. He survives of the home.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andrew Franken and stepfather, Charles R. Scott.
In addition to her husband Pat, she is survived by daughters, Kelli (Michael) and Katie both of Topeka; son Patrick Hegarty, Atchison; granddaughters, Malia and Amiya, Topeka; her mother, Georgia Scott, Troy; one sister, Mary Lou Theis (Nick), Cheyenne, Wyoming; five brothers, Andrew (Linda) Franken, Troy, Mike (Bev) Franken, Bendena, Kelly (Denice) Franken, Troy, Joe (Gina) Franken, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Tim (Peggy) Franken, Troy, and several extended family members and numerous friends.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and VFW Women’s Auxiliary both of Atchison. Julie enjoyed the close connections she made at the beauty shop. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and friends as well as attending family gatherings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30a.m. Monday, January 26, 2009 at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, Atchison, KS with Rev. Gerard Senecal, OSB as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison. The family will receive friends from 2-4:30p.m. Sunday at St. Benedict’s where a parish rosary will be recited at 4:30p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Julie are suggested to the Julie Ann Hegarty Scholarship Fund to be established for a Maur Hill-Mount Academy annual student scholarship.
James Stewart | d. January 17, 2009
James (Jamie) Stewart, 50, Kansas City North, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at his home on January 17, 2009. He was born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1958 at the McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita, KS to Edward L. and Betty Fenemore Stewart. He graduated from the Florida Central Academy in Sorrento, FL and attended Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph, MO.
Jamie spent the last 18 years employed by the Internal Revenue Service as a Field Representative. He was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Belton, MO. He worked tirelessly as a volunteer for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Jamie was a loyal fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Missouri Tigers and Jeff Gordon. He also enjoyed fishing and bowling. Being a single father of three daughters, fatherhood was the most important thing in his life. “Your family will forever miss and love you, Jamie.”
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Stewart. Survivors include his three daughters, Nicole Anne, Jamey Lynn and Corey Jordan Stewart, all of the home; his parents, Betty and John Carroll, Kansas City North; three brothers, Stephen Stewart (Aileen), Kansas City North, Rick Stewart (Crystal), Kansas City North, Edward Murray (Heather), Fairbury, IL; six sisters, Jill Simmons (Mark), Parkville, MO, Kerry Petersen (Jeff), Shawnee, KS, Tammy Richardson, Kansas City North, Robin Cole (Justin), Shobonier, IL, Susan Stewart, Pontiac, IL, Wanda Kay, Pontiac, IL and many other relatives in the United States and England.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:30a.m. Thursday, January 22, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152. Burial will follow at the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Parkville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Vinicio Saladin | d. January 14, 2009
Vinicio Saladin, 83, Gladstone, MO passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at his residence. He was born April 28, 1925 in Bonao, Domincan Republic. He retired from Maple Woods Community College in 2000.
Survivors include his wife, Luz, of the home; a son, Pedro J. Saladin and wife Margaret of O’Fallon, Mo; two daughters, Hilaria Grigsby and husband Ralph of Parkville, Mo. and Mercedes Nery Williams of Kansas City, Mo; two sisters, Ana Porcia Peralta of New York, NY and Xeomara Quezada of Dominican Republuc; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:00a.m. Saturday, January 17, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with Rev. Ken Riley as celebrant. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Parkville, Mo. The family will receive friends from 8:00a.m. until time of Mass on Saturday. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Nicoda Shaw Hamidi | d. January 6, 2009
Nicoda Shaw Hamidi was born and joined God on January 6, 2009. He is loved and remembered by his parents, Khalid and Stacia, and their family and friends. The family will receive friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main Street, Parkville MO, 64152, Monday, January 12, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Private burial at Resurrection Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established at Bank of America to accept donations in honor of Nicoda Shaw Hamidi.
Toni Griggs | d. January 7, 2009
Toni Griggs, 85, Parkville, MO went to be with her family and friends in heaven on January 7, 2009 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 21, 1923 to Henry and Lillian Holmes of Kansas City.
Toni is reunited with her husband, Bob Griggs; parents, Arthur and Lillian Holmes; brothers, Arthur Holmes, Jr. and Henry Holmes; sisters, Rosemary Pyle, Francie Johnson, Terry Jewel and Bernie Martincich. She is survived by her children, Cathy Griggs Newton (Grundy) of Platte City, MO, Dan Griggs (Karen) of Weatherby Lake, MO, Gary Griggs (Sharon) of Atlanta, GA, Jamey Griggs of Smithville, MO, Nancy Griggs Anderson (Mark) of Balsam Lake, WI; grandchildren, Jay Griggs (Misty) of Parkville, MO, Kristin Griggs of Parkville, MO, Tim Griggs of San Diego, CA, Tyler Griggs of Atlanta, GA, Kyle Griggs of Peoria, IL, Dr. Rachel Griggs of New Orleans, LA, Ashley Griggs of Kansas City, MO, Robert Napoli of Kansas City, MO, Ryan Napoli of Kansas City, MO, Jacob Johnson of Balsam Lake, WI and Zachary Johnson of Balsam Lake, WI; step grandchildren, Kenny Azzeh (Lauren) of San Diego, CA, Lance Newton of Lee’s Summit, MO and Clint Newton (Susan) of Liberty, MO; great grandchildren, Cooper Griggs, Audrey Azzeh, Ella Azzeh, Macgyver Newton and Madalyn Newton.
Toni was also “mom” to many students at Park University, where she served for over thirty years as Administrative Assistant to five Presidents and four Deans during her tenure. Many Park students were welcomed into her home. The “Toni Griggs Award” is presented annually to a student who has made an outstanding contribution to Park University. She was devoted to her family, nurtured connections to many friends, and supported several church and community efforts with her time, talent and treasure. Toni loved sports, actively supported the teams and activities of her children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00a.m. Saturday, January 10, at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 N.W. 9 Highway, Kansas City, Mo. 64152 with Rev. Michael Roach as Celebrant. Cremation will follow with burial of the cremated remains at Resurrection North Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00p.m. Friday, at the church.
