Maxine C. Carter | d. February 26, 2009
Mrs. Maxine C. Carter, 82, a resident of Kansas City North passed away Thursday, February 26, 2009 at the Garden Valley Manor. She was born and reared in Southern, MO to John Lee and Francis L. Plaster Mitchell. She married Robert A. Carter on August 31, 1942 in Hartville, MO. Mr. Carter preceded her in death on March 31, 1997. They had previously lived in the Kansas City area before retiring to Hermitage, MO where they owned property at Lake Pom de Terre. She recently moved back to Kansas City to be closer to her children.
Maxine was a devout Christian and attended the Park Hill Baptist Church. She had a passion for quilting and had donated numerous quilts to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home. She was a lifelong homemaker and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include her four children, David Carter of Kansas City, Donna Pratt and husband Jim of Kansas City, Stephen Carter of Kansas City and Mary Lopez and husband Rick of Flemington, MO; Seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland with Pastor Dave Overman officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Graveside services and burial will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Missouri Baptist Childrenʼs Home and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Jean Ann Warger | d. February 22, 2009
Jean Ann Warger, 48, Kearney, MO passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at the North Kansas City Hospital. She was born August 30, 1960 in Kansas City, MO to Richard Wayne and Maydene M. Gore Warger. She was a lifelong Northland resident and graduated from the Park Hill High School in 1978.
Jean retired from Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, MO in June of 2007. Prior to her employment at Ford, she worked in medical coding and billing for the former Myers, Fitch and Kalbac Women’s Clinic in North Kansas City. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, friends, co-workers and her two dogs, Bourbon and Ogie.
She attended the St. James Catholic Church in Liberty and Church of the Annunciation in Kearney. She was a member of the UAW local #249 of Claycomo, where she served as Chair Person for the Union Label Committee.
Survivors include her daughter, Gretchen T. Hartman and husband Michael of Kansas City, MO; her mother, Maydene Warger of Weatherby Lake, MO; three brothers, Steven M. Warger of Parkville, MO, Jeff J. Warger of Gladstone, MO, Nick W. Warger of North Kansas City, MO; two sisters, Tina M. McLoughlin of Tampa, FL, Jaci M. Foster, Liberty, MO; 2 grandchildren, Addisyn and Jaxyn Hartman of Kansas City, MO. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard in April of 1996.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 25, at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, Parkville, MO. Ms. Warger will be laid to rest at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and for one hour prior to the services Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer research or Wayside Waifs and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Marsh Graham | d. February 19, 2009
Mr. Marsh Graham, 86, Parkville, MO passed away Thursday, February 19, 2009 at the Garden Valley Manor. He was born July 23, 1922 in Rolfe, IA to Luther Marsh and Bess Cuff Graham. He graduated from Rolfe High School and earned his BA from Arizona State University.
Marsh was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served from 1942-1946 during World War II, and then again from 1952-1956 during the Korean Conflict. During that time he was an aircraft carrier qualified Marine Corps pilot and flew reconnoissance missions along the 38th parallel in Korea. He was employed by TWA for many years as a Technical Editor. He retired in 1986.
He and Ruth Vreeland we’re united in marriage on July 30, 1949 in Chicago, IL. She preceded him in death in 2005. Survivors include two sons, Philip James Graham of Gladstone, MO and Nicholas Marsh Graham of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Julie Ann Gillette of Flagstaff, AZ and M. Susan Graham of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Jean Allen of Gladstone, MO; four grandchildren, Kimberly Gillette of Tucson, AZ, Andrew Gillette of Avondale, AZ, Kristin Graham of Chicago, IL and Jennie Czarnecki of Chicago, IL.
Mr. Graham has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, Parkville, MO. It was his desire to have his family scatter his ashes in Arizona, where private family services will be held.
Jack H. Hansel | d. February 18, 2009
Jack H. Hansel, 65, lifelong Parkville, MO resident passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at his home. He was born February 20, 1943 in Kansas City, KS. Jack was a graduate of the Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He married Brenda Marlow on March 12, 1966 at the Park Hill Christian Church. Mrs. Hansel survives of the home. Jack worked security for TWA for over 35 years before retiring from American Airlines in 2008, as a Maintenance Clerk. He was a former dispatcher and firefighter for the South Platte Fire Protection District. He was also a former police officer for the Northmoor Police Department.
In addition to his wife, Brenda, he is survived by two daughters, Dori Enloe (Scott) of Parkville, MO and Sabreena Hansel (Justin Shaver) of Trimble, MO; one granddaughter, Brianna Joy Shaver of Trimble, MO.
A celebration of Jackʼs life will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, February 23, in the chapel at the Hawthorne House, 6008 NW Bell Rd. Parkville, MO 64152 with Dr. George Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services. Private family burial with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Army will be held at East Slope Cemetery, Riverside, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are requested to the Parkville Animal Shelter and may be left in care of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152.
Albert Eugene Schrimsher | d. February 17, 2009
Albert Eugene Schrimsher passed away February 17, 2009, at Cameron, MO. Born August 5, 1917, in Lafayette County, MO, Albert, or “Gene”, grew up on a farm near Bates City, the second of two sons separated by 13 years. He graduated from Bates City High School in 1935 and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1937, he entered Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO, and in 1938 was employed by Koch Butcher’s Supply in North Kansas City, MO, as a cost accountant. Soon recognized for his innovative mechanical abilities, he transferred to the engineering laboratory.
He married Mildred J. “Millie” Myers of Bosworth, MO, October 13, 1941. During World War II, he served in the US Navy, attending sonar, material and electrical schools and serving as a Sonarman in Key West, FL, and Norfolk, VA, until discharged in 1946. Al returned to his job at the company then known as Koch Refrigerators, designing and building commercial refrigerators and freezers. He bought a small acreage near Parkville, Missouri, where he reared a family and lived the remainder of his life in a house he built himself. A member of Parkville Presbyterian Church for 62 years, he served as a deacon, elder, church treasurer, choir member, and building repairman.
Albert served 13 years as Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 333 in Parkville. He earned Woodbadge, Training Awards, District Award of Merit, God and Service Award, and the Silver Beaver. He was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, and accompanied Scouts to H. Roe Bartle Reservation and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area many summers. He rarely missed any Scouting event, and was an outstanding campfire cook. Albert served as an assistant Scoutmaster accompanying area Scouts to the 1964 National Boy Scout Jamboree at Valley Forge, PA. He also served on a Girl Scout Committee.
Albert retired in 1982 after 44 years with his employer, then known as Hobart Corporation, as its Resident Engineer. He returned to his lifelong love of building, living his motto, “If you want or need something, build it,” and “If it is broken, repair it.” He lived his last months at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Cameron, Missouri. Albert was preceded in death by his parents and older brother. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred, of the home; two daughters: Martha Auchard and her husband Gary of Leavenworth, KS, and Janet Thomas and her husband Joe of Cleburne, TX; a son: Jack Schrimsher and his wife Joyce of Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.
A committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with full military honors under the auspices of the United States Navy. There will be a visitation at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., Friday at the Parkville Presbyterian Church, Parkville, MO. The family suggests that contributions in lieu of flowers be directed to Parkville Presbyterian Church and Boy Scout Troop 333.
Mary Furchak | d. February 14, 2009
Mary Furchak, 90, Riverside, Missouri passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009. She was born November 20, 1918 in Morgantown, West Virginia. She married John Andrew Furchak on September 19, 1938. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She worked as a Certified Nurses Assistant in up state New York most of her working years. She was a devout Catholic and member of the St. Raphael Catholic Church in Leigh Acres, Florida.
In addition to her parents and husband John, she was preceded in death by two sons and five siblings. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Goulet of Kansas City North; two sons, Raymond Furchak of Texas and Russell Furchak of West Virginia; 12 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Raphael’s. The Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland is in charge of the local arrangements.
Carol Comley | d. February 10, 2009
Carol Comley, 69 of Liberty, MO, formerly of Carrollton, MO passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born January 23, 1940 in Carrollton, MO to Bernard and Gladys McCormack Cahill. Mrs. Cahill survives in Carrollton. Carol was a graduate of Carrollton High School and worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Insurance business for over 30 years.
She married John Comley on September 22, 2006 in Liberty. Mr. Comley survives of the home. Additional survivors include two daughters, Staci Marie Rivas and partner, Crystal Johnson of Kearney, MO and Kristi Ann LaMothe and husband David of Mission Hills, KS; one grandson, Kaden Nicholas LaMothe and one expected grandchild; one brother, L.J. Cahill of Carrollton, MO; four sisters, Jane Atherton of Carrollton, MO, Roberta Wolford of Independence, MO. Wanda Wilson of Carrollton, MO and Mary Helen Johnson of Omaha, NE.
A service celebrating Carol’s life will be held at 200p.m. Sunday, February 15th at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152 with Chaplain Tom Blake officiating. The family will receive friends following the service until 4:00p.m. Graveside services and burial will be 10:00a.m. Monday at East Slope Cemetery in Riverside, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Keith Worthington Chapter of A.L.S. or NorthCare Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Norman Withrow | d. February 9, 2009
Norman Withrow, 72, Platte City, MO passed away Monday, February 9, 2009 at the Chariton Park Nursing Facility in Salisbury, MO. He was born May 31, 1936 in Owingsville, KY to Osborn and Frona Pearl Hughes Withrow. They preceded him in death. He had lived most of his life in Platte County. He was married to Eula Mae Waters and later to Sharon K. Brown. Survivors include two sons, Jerry and Dan Withrow and a daughter, Elizabeth Boland.
Mr. Withrow will be laid to rest at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. There are no scheduled services. The Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville has been entrusted with the final arrangements.
Albert L. Wilson | d. February 6, 2009
Albert L. Wilson, 80 of Kansas City North passed away Friday, February 6, 2009 at the Garden Valley Manor. He moved to Kansas City from Omaha, NE in 1977.
Albert was an area Service Manager for Sears for many years prior to his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Platte Woods United Methodist Church where he had served as the Finance Director. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Philena Wilson of the home; 2 sons, Craig and Breck Wilson, both of Omaha; a brother, Chuck Wilson, Oshkosh, WI and two grandsons, Dustin and Cole Wilson.
Services will be held in Omaha.
