Loretta Christine Miller | d. September 27, 2008

Loretta Christine MillerMrs. Loretta C. Miller, 82, Mesa, AZ, formerly of Fillmore and Parkville, MO passed away September 27, 2008 at her home. She was born March 15, 1926 in Fillmore to Charles and Edna Davidson Matlock. They preceded her in death. She attended schools in Fillmore and Parkville.

She spent the majority of her working years with the Montegue Processing Company in Parkville. As a young adult she assisted on the family farm near Fillmore. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She was a former member of the Parkville Presbyterian Church in Parkville and the Park Hill Christian Church in Platte Woods, MO.

She was married to the love of her life, William L. Miller for over 60 years. He survives of the home in Mesa. Additional survivors include two sons, Rex Miller and wife Debbie of Richlan, WA, Robert (Bob) and wife Paula of Clarksville, TN; one sister, Phyllis Aikmus of Mesa, AZ and 9 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:00a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO 64152. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery, Parkville. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice.


Clyde David Whipple | d. September 22, 2008

C. David Whipple, 80, Weatherby Lake, MO passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 in Billings, MT. He was born Oct 3, 1927 in Kansas City, MO to Clyde W. and Myrtle L. Smith Whipple. He graduated from Parkville High School, received a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Baker University and a Juris Doctorate from the Kansas City School of Law.

Dave practiced law for 56 years, with much of his practice devoted to representing the labor movement. He owned the Whipple Law Firm in Kansas City, MO. He was a member of the Missouri Bar, Wyoming Bar and United States Supreme Court.

Dave was elected Mayor of Parkville and was the youngest mayor in the State Missouri at the age of 24. He also served as Alderman and Mayor Pro-tem for the City of Weatherby Lake. He served an eight year term on the Park Hill School Board, four of which he was President of the School Board. Dave was a member of the Parkville Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Parkville Rotary Club and Parkville VFW Post #7356. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America having earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was the longest lifetime member of the Parkville Presbyterian Church. Dave was a veteran of the United States Army and served in Korea.

He is survived by the love of his life, Izzy, to whom he was married for 54 years and his three children David, Anne and Lynn. Also, he is survived by siblings Claribel Carpenter, Lyle Whipple, and Launa Weeks and 7 grandchildren. Dave loved spending time with his family at their home located outside Cody, Wyoming.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Parkville Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brian D. Ellison officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00p.m. Thursday at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St., Parkville, MO. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Park Hill Education Foundation and the UMKC Law Foundation.


Cecilia Torres | d. September 18, 2008

CeciliaTorres, 52, Kansas City North, formerly of Mexico, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the University of Kansas Hospital. She was born August 2, 1956 in Mexico to Jose Santos and Teresa Felix Valenzuela. She was a homemaker. She attended St. Therese Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ricardo Torres of the home. 1 daughter, Lorenia Torres; 1 son, Ricardo Torres and her mother, Teresa Torres. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 7:00p.m. Friday, September 19, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church. The burial will be held in Mexico. The Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland has been entrusted with the final arrangements.


Rachel Fitch | d. September 16, 2008

Rachel Fitch, 40, Kansas City North, passed away September 16, 2008 at the Liberty Hospital. She was born February 20, 1968 in Conneticut to Joseph and June La Roche Pasche. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, Stephen Fitch of the home, 3 sons, Shawn, Christopher and Aaron Fitch, all of the home, 2 sisters, 1 brother and step father, Thomas Giardini of North Carolina.

Mrs. Fitch has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, Parkville. There are no scheduled services.


Wayne F. Freeman | d. September 8, 2008

Wayne F. Freeman, 79, Kansas City North, passed away Monday, September 8, 2008 at the North Kansas City Hospital. He was born February 17, 1929 in Benton, AR to Edgar and Nell Freeman. They preceded him in death. He attended schools in Mansfield, MO where he graduated from the Mansfield High School in 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Freeman spent his entire working life in the construction business in Kansas City. He went to work for List and Weatherly Construction in the late 1950’s before Joining the Clarkson Construction Company in 1959. He was employed by Clarkson until 1984 when he became a Superintendant for Mabin Construction. He retired from Mabin in 1996. He was a 50 year member of the Carpenters Local #61 in Kansas City.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister. Survivors include two sons, Martin H. Freeman, Kansas City North and Victor F. Freeman, Kansas City North; one daughter, Melinda Rose Torrez, Witchita, KS.

Mr. Freeman has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland. There are no scheduled services. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.


Chris Case | d. September 2, 2008

Chris Case, 38, Grain Valley, MO passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 2, 2008. He was born August 6, 1970 in Independence, MO to Leslie Alan and Sandra Marie Thomas Case. They survive in Lee’s Summit, MO. Chris was a graduate of Lee’s Summit High School and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. Chris was a carpenter by trade. He spent the majority of his working years in new home construction and remodeling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He married Dionne Michelle Minzes on February 18, 1995. They were blessed to have had three beautiful children, Tayler Mackenzie Case, Christopher Brenon Case and Allie Elizabeth Case. They survive of the home. In addition to his parents, wife and children, he is survived by two brothers, Cary Michael Case and wife Jennifer of Grain Valley and Colby Andrew Case of Lee’s Summit, MO. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary Louise Case of Independence, MO and maternal grandmother, Maxine Thomas of Independence, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted 5:00p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the East Side Baptist Church, 19901 East 78 Highway, Independence, MO with Rev. Don Claphan officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00p.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services and burial will be 11:00a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Chris Case Memorial Fund % First Financial Bank, 831 NE Woods Chapel Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO 64064 to be established for the Children’s Education Fund.


Morphy Martin | d. September 2, 2008

Morphy Martin, 56, Parkville, Mo passed away September 2, 2008. He was born in November of 1951 in Micronesia to Salvador and Piula Hadley Martin. They preceded him in death. He attended schools in Micronesia.

Mr. Martin spent the majority of his working years in the healthcare filed as a Certified Nurses Assistant. He was a Catholic by faith and attended St. Therese Catholic Church near Parkville.

Survivors include his wife Merlucy Martin of the home; 2 daughters, Merleen Martin of Parkville, MO, Youlise Ham, Grandview, MO; 3 sons, Berney Martin, Micronesia, Rodriguez Martin, Independence, MO, Marmelynn Martin, Independence, MO; 2 brothers, 4 sisters and 20 grandchildren.

Friends are invited to pray with the body from 4-7p.m. Monday at St. Therese Catholic Church7207 N.W. 9 Hwy, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be held in Micronesia.


Mr. Carl Guth | d. September 2, 2008

Mr. Carl Guth, 94, of Gladstone, MO passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Garden Valley Manor in Kansas City, MO. He was born July 13, 1914 in Kansas City, KS to Carl Charles and Martha Rose Hobelman Guth. They preceded him in death.

Carl was a supervisor at the former TWA Overhaul Base in Kansas City where he worked for over 40 years. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.

He married Hazel Sarah Davidson in November of 1951 in Kansas City, MO. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Guth.

Clint is survived by his stepdaughter, Mary Jean Martin of Independence, MO, 3 sisters; Gertrude Schuck of Kansas City, MO, Rosemarie Stacy, and Dorothy Paine, both of Kansas City, MO, and 1 brother; James Guth of Port Smith, NH.

Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 9:00 A.M. Friday, September 5, 2008 at the St. Charles Catholic Church, 900 N.E. Shady Lane Dr. Gladstone, MO 64118 with Father Ken Riley as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Kansas City, Kansas with military honors under the auspices of the Missouri Funeral Honors Program.
