Anastasia (Ana) Hubbard | d. November 30, 2008

Anastasia Hubbard of Overland Park, Kansas, and formerly of Brown Deer, Wisconsin, passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Anastasia was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on January 14, 1977. She attended Our Lady of Good Hope elementary school and Brown Deer Middle School and graduated from Brown Deer High School in 1995. She then attended the University of Rochester in New York, where she pursued studies in psychology and political science and studied in Australia for a semester. After earning her bachelor's degree in 2000, she traveled and worked abroad and then worked in the Milwaukee area in programs to assist children with autism. She relocated to Overland Park, Kansas, in 2003, attended the University of Kansas and earned a master's degree in special education in 2005. She was engaged in special projects for the Autism Asperger Publishing Company and frequently traveled throughout the country and overseas for conferences, consultations and other events until the onset of her illness.

Anastasia is survived by the love of her life, Spencer D. Nolan of Overland Park; her parents, Edward and Shirley Hubbard of Brown Deer; her beloved sister, Katherine Hubbard of Brown Deer; her grandmother, Ann F. Hubbard of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; uncles, aunts and cousins; and countless friends throughout the country and abroad whose lives she touched in her extraordinary way.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 16000 W. 143rd St., Olathe, Kansas, on Thursday, December 4th with Rev. Chris Rossman as Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 9:30; Mass at 10:30 will be followed by a luncheon. A memorial service will be held in Wisconsin at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a memorial fund that is being established.


Ronald Lee Shane | d. November 28, 2008

Ronald Lee Shane, 60, Kansas City, North passed away Friday, November 28, 2008 in Riverside, MO.  He was born May 12, 1948 in North Kansas City to William Edward and Mary A. (Pate) Shane.  He attended schools in North Kansas City where he graduated from Oak Park High School. 

Ron worked in the parts department at Wheeler Truck Sales and Service for over 30 years.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors.

His father preceded him in death in 2001.  Survivors include his mother, Mary Shane of Hermitage, MO; a brother Bill Shane, Jr. of Houston, TX. and longtime friend, Bob Matlock of Gladstone, MO.

The family will receive friends from 1-3p.m. Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St. Parkville, MO.  (816) 741-0251.  There is no scheduled service.


Marguerite Finter | d. November 27, 2008

Marguerite Finter, 88, Windsor, Mo., passed away Thursday, November 27, 2008 at her home. She was born January 30, 1920 in Osceola, Mo. to Sam and Rachel Terry. They preceded her in death. She was the last living sibling of 11 children. She graduated from the Osceola High School in 1938. Marguerite was a homemaker and hard worker. She enjoyed being outside and tending to her flowers and garden. She was of the Pentecostal faith and longtime member of the Assembly of God Church in Windsor.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Van Buren on October 24, 1998; a daughter, Wanda Fay Finter; two son-in-laws, Thomas Dunnam and Rodney Nichols; 2 granddaughters, Carrie Williams and Tammy Vaughn; 10 brothers and sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ninemire, Liberty, Mo, Linda Dunnam, Parkville, Mo, Judy Gillespie, Kansas City, Mo; 4 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00p.m. Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, Mo. Graveside services and burial will be 3:30p.m. Wednesday at the Mound Grove Cemetery, Sugar Creek, Mo. The body will lie in state after 9:00a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 1-2:00p.m. Memorials are suggested to Twin Lakes Hospice and may be left in care of the funeral home.


Peter Anthony Fopeano | d. November 25, 2008

Peter Anthony Fopeano, 43, died unexpectedly on November 25, 2008.  He was born October 31, 1965 in Kansas City, MO and resided in Platte County most of his life.  He was a graduate of Park Hill High School and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.  Peter began acting when he was a child at his grandparent’s theatre, The Bell Road Barn Playhouse in Parkville, MO, and he remained actively involved in many Kansas City theatres throughout his life.  Peter is survived by his sons JT and Alex and their mother, Barbara; his parents Michael and Jane Fopeano; his sister Wendy and his brother Joe.  He has many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends who held a special place in their hearts for him.  Peter had an infectious laugh and a dry, quick wit and kept his family entertained on or off the stage.  He had a sensitive and loving heart and was very proud of his sons.

The time and date of a memorial service is yet to be determined. 


Margaret Elizabeth Whitcomb | d. November 17, 2008

Margaret E. Whitcomb, 68, Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House. She was born February 26, 1940 in Shreveport, LA to Marvin Jones and Leesie Watson Butler. They preceded her in death. She was a graduate of the Bossier High School in Bossier City, LA. She spent the majority of her working years as a social worker for the State of Oregon.

Margaret was a Southern Baptist by faith. She was a licensed pilot and loved to fly. She was a voracious reader and self-educator. She never tired of learning something new. She enjoyed bird watching, nature and all kinds of music.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one son, Jonathon David Antley Whitcomb; a grandson, Albert E. Eddy and five brothers and sisters.

Survivors include one son, Loye Antley, Jr, Benton, LA; five daughters, Jill Antley, Bossier City, LA, Alice Antley, Salem, OR, Becky Attenburger, Salem, OR, Mary Beall, Wasilla, AK and Cindy Chesley, Kansas City, MO and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00p.m. Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland with Pastor Stephen Boster officiating. Burial will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Jerry W. Ewing | d. November 15, 2008

Jerry W. Ewing, 68, Kansas City, MO passed away November 15, 2008. He was born May 2, 1940 in Wichita, KS. He grew up in the Beltrami, Minnesota area. He moved to Kansas City in 1966. He was employed at Guyʼs Foods, Montgomery Wards and for the last 20 years at Metro North Mall. Jerry was a member of The Rock of KC Church. Survivors include his wife Dixie; daughter, Wendy Miller and husband Michael, Jefferson City, MO; daughter, Nori Strangland of Crookston, MN; two sisters, Judy Jensen, Kansas City, MO and Janis Jacobson, Waynesville, NC; grandchildren, Kevin, Christopher and Samantha. A memorial service will be held at a later date.


Mae Beth (Buckman) Wojtkiewicz | d. November 6, 2008

Mae Beth (Buckman) Wojtkiewicz passed away at her home in Parkville, Missouri on Thursday, November 06, 2008 after a heroic battle with cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be con- celebrated at St. Therese Catholic Church, Parkville, Missouri at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 8, 2008 with Rev. Michael Roach as principal celebrant. A memorial mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina, Missouri at a later date, followed by interment of the cremains at St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday at St.Therese Catholic Church where the rosary will be prayed at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Evan Wojtkiewicz Education Fund or St. Therese School Music Department.

Mae Beth was born to J. Robert and Leona Mae Levings Buckman of Shelbina, Missouri on September 21, 1959. She graduated from South Shelby High School in 1977. She earned her Elementary Music Education Degree in 1981 from Central Missouri State University.

On May 1, 1981 she was united in marriage to Russell E. Wojtkiewicz of Lockwood, Missouri at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina, Missouri.

Mae Beth is survived by her husband, Russell and son Evan of the home. Other survivors include her mother, Mae Buckman; brothers Gale (Pat) and Mike (Barb) Buckman of Shelbina; brother Kent (Angela) Buckman of Martinsburg, Missouri and sister Sharon Buckman of St. Ann, Missouri; her mother-in-law Bette Wojtkiewicz of Liberty, Missouri; five nieces and four nephews, 11 great nieces and nephews and many caring friends and colleagues.

Beth was K through 4 Elementary Music Teacher at St. Therese School in Parkville where she founded the Children’s Choir of St. Therese Parish. She was also one of the accompanists at St. Therese.

She loved her family, children and teaching. Her life dream was to simply be a good mother, and to that many will attest to her success, both to her dearly loved son and to the hundreds of students she had the pleasure and fortune of leading in her classroom.


Margaret Fleming | d. November 2, 2008

Margaret Fleming, 86, longtime Platte County resident passed away Sunday, November 2, 2008 at a Kansas City, MO nursing facility. She was born March 29, 1922 in Waldron, MO to Levi and Bernice Babcock Myers. She attended a one room grade school in rural Platte County.

She married William “Robert” Fleming on December 24, 1943 in Leavenworth, KS. Mr. Fleming preceded her in death on March 30, 1990. She assisted her husband on the family farm in rural Platte County. The farm has been in the family since 1861.

Margaret was a member of the St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ in Riverside, MO. She was a member of the Platte County Steam and Gas Association, Platte County Quilting Club and won several awards at the Platte County Fair for her quilting where she also held quilting demonstrations every year.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Elmer Myers and a daughter in law, Teresa A. Fleming. Survivors include a son, Gary M. Fleming, Sr. of Platte City, MO and a grandson, Gary M. Fleming, Jr. of Platte City, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:30a.m. Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, MO with Pastor Bud Elliott officiating. Burial will follow in the Platte City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening form 6-8:00p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation in honor of Teresa Fleming and may be sent to P.O. Box 650309, Dallas, TX, 75265.
