Thomas C. Holloway, Jr | d. June 30, 2008

Thomas C. Holloway, Jr, 50, Parkville, MO died June 30, 2008 after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

Thomas was born April 9, 1958 in Junction City, Kansas. He graduated from Junction City Senior High School in 1976. During his high school years he excelled in football and baseball, but it was baseball that was his true passion. Thomas was awarded a baseball scholarship from coffeyville Community College. While battling in the early stages of MS. he earned an Associates of Arts degree from Cloud County Community College in 1983.

Thomas is survived by his parents, Thomas and Virginia Holloway of Parkville, MO; sister Cornelia (Spencer) Keesee of Parkville, MO; brother, John Holloway of Mission, KS; niece Morgan Keesee of Parkville, MO; nephew, Tyler Keesee of Parkville, MO; aunt, Thelma Letcher of Salina, KS; auntJanie (Robert) Davis, Leavenworth, KS; great aunt, Lillian Carter, Leavenworth, KS; a host of cousins, and special friends from the MS Society.

Sevices will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Greater Pentecostal Temple, 864 Splitlog, Kansas City, KS with Elder Judson Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. The family will recieve friends for one hour prior to services at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the MS Society in memory of Thomas.


George L. Loelkes, Jr. | d. June 29, 2008

George L. Loelkes, Jr, 83 of Parkville, MO passed away Sunday, June 29, 2008. He was born on April 13, 1925 to George Louis and Rose Carter Loelkes in Maplewood , MO. They preceded him in death. He graduated high school in Springfield , MO. George was active in the Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended college at Arkansas State College, Jonesboro , AR and Washington University , St. Louis , MO.

He was united in marriage with Margaret “Peggy” Nesbitt on July 1, 1959 in Webster Groves, MO. She survives of the home. George and Peggy celebrated almost 60 years together. To this union they had three children, Rosemary, Janet and George III. Following service in the United States Air Force during World War II and Korea as a reconnaissance pilot, he worked in the field of remote sensing and land use mapping. He authored many technical papers on land use and remote sensing, as well as photographic interpretation. George was a member of the American Congress of Surveying and Mapping and the American Society of Photogrammetry. He retired in 1986 from the United States Geological Survey's regional center in Rolla , MO where he was a Section Chief . George and Peggy moved to Kansas City in 1997 to be near his family. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Parkville . George is dearly loved and will be missed by all.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by 1 son, George L. Loelkes, III and wife Cindy of Kansas City, MO; 2 daughters, Rosemary Loelkes of Parkville and Janet Fletcher and husband James of Huntsville, AL; 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held 10:00a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville with Father Mike Roach officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Therese Catholic Church building fund or the American Cancer Society.


ROBERT THOMAS (TOM) MARSHALL | d. June 27, 2008

Robert Thomas (Tom) Marshall, a former member of the sports staff of The Kansas City Star and Times for 24 years, died June 27th, 2008 after suffering a heart attack six days earlier. He was 88.

A Mass celebrating Mr. Marshall’s life will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 1st at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 900 NE Shady Lane, Gladstone. Following the Mass will be a flag folding ceremony honoring Mr. Marshall’s service in World War II. A brunch and reception will follow from 10 a.m. until noon in Borromeo Hall. The family requests no flowers or memorial donations. “Just come and celebrate Tom’s life with us through prayer and storytelling” is their request. Mr. Marshall was born in Sikeston, Missouri, June 24, 1920, one of four children of Wilson Dean Marshall and Myrtle (Beal) Marshall.

Tom was married to Eileen McAreavey on October 1, 1949 in Presho, South Dakota. He is survived by his wife Eileen, of the home, daughter Becky Schaid and husband Jim of Spring Hill, Kansas, daughter Mary Beth Stock and husband Tom of Beijing, China, daughter Susana Brennan of Portland, Oregon, daughter Kate Marshall of Portland, Oregon, godson and nephew John Sanderford and wife Kim of Kearney, Missouri, niece Stacie Sanderford of Las Vegas, Nevada, niece Mauri Sanderford and husband Morton, Norway; grandchildren Molly Schaid, Kaele Stock, Lizzy Stock, Kyle Pittman, Brett Pittman and Heather Pittman; and sister Dorothy Clinton and husband Ray of Sikeston. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Tris and Maclin.

Mr. Marshall graduated from Sikeston High School in 1938. He played basketball, worked at the Sikeston Herald and received a tennis scholarship to Cape Girardeau State College where he attended for two years before entering military service in 1942. Trained as a radio operator, he attained the rank of Tech Sergeant and was assigned to a crew of a B-17 bomber with the 8th Air Force in England. In flying 30 missions from June 1944 to February 1945, he survived two forced landings in France and Belgium and qualified for membership in the “Lucky Bastard Club.” Later in life he wrote a book about his military experiences and seized on the club’s name for the title. Among his decorations were the Air Medal and three oak leaf clusters.

After military service, Mr. Marshall finished college at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois where he was graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1948.

He spent the next 36 years working for newspapers, the Watertown (S.D.) Public Opinion, the Oregon Statesman and the The Kansas City Star and Times. He joined the sports staff of The Star and Times in July, 1960 as a copy editor and reporter and later became Assistant Sports Editor in charge of the night sports operation. He retired in July 1984.

His major beat as a reporter was covering the Kansas City Chiefs from their arrival in 1963 to 1969. He was part of the newspaper’s coverage of Super Bowl I in January 1967 when the Chiefs were defeated by the Green Bay Packers. He also covered Super Bowl IV in January 1970 when the Chiefs defeated the Minnesota Vikings.

Other notable assignments were covering the celebrated tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs in the Houston Astrodome in 1973 and the opportunity to report on riding another B-17 from Galveston, Texas to Kansas City in July, 1974.

Long time members of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Tom and Eileen were active in the Christian Family Movement and for several years have volunteered at the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging.

The family is thankful to the doctors, nurses and staff of the St. Luke’s Northland Hospital for Tom’s care in his final days. On the final evening before he died, he was surrounded by the majority of his family and for more than two hours there was a spontaneous celebration of telling of stories, holding hands and singing songs such as “Hello Dolly” and the “Notre Dame Victory March.”


Lucy A. Robinson | d. June 24, 2008

Mrs. Lucy A. Robinson, 48, Kansas City, Missouri was united with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 21, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of John and Wavey (Smith) Green. They survive in Illinois. She was educated in the Chicago Public School System and graduated from Tilden High School, followed by business and nursing school.

On May 5, 1990 she was united in marriage with Willie E. Robinson, Jr., in Chicago. Mr. Robinson survives of the home. She worked for Citi Corp in the collections department, for Sony as an account rep, and the University of Kansas Medical Center as a new patient coordinator. Mrs. Robinson was a member of the Kansas City Church of Christ for the past eighteen years. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, interior design, wedding planning, cross stitch, needlework, caring for people and most of all, serving God.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paris Smith in 1968 and Lee Thomas Nolan in 2007. In addition to her husband Willie and her parents, she is survived by one son, Allan Lee Newberry of Kansas City, MO (Joane), two daughters, Myisha Broughton of Kansas City, MO (Reginald) and Brittany A. Robinson of Kansas City, MO, one brother, John Green of Chicago, four sisters, Ethel Armour of Kansas City, MO (Clarence), Wilma Green of Chicago, Effie Green of Chicago and Nancy Green of Weatherby Lake, MO (David), two grandchildren, Jaylen and Jasmine Newberry of Kansas City, MO, several nieces and nephews and many special friends.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Kansas City Church of Christ, 10250 Quivira Road, Lenexa, KS 66215 with Elder Charlie Sawyer officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice or Kansas City Cancer Center.


Kelly Ashea McBride | d. June 16, 2008

Kelly Ashea McBride, age 43 of Gladstone, MO went to her heavenly reward on June 16, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Kelly was born on September 15, 1964 in Dallas, TX the daughter of David and Sherry (Riggs) Krupka. In 1984 Kelly married Doug McBride. He survives of the home. They have two children, Steven D. McBride and Justin D. McBride both of Gladstone.

Kelly was formerly employed in the car business and had worked at Laird Noller Ford, Platte City Ford and Bill Woods Ford. She was currently employed at PAS Technology in North Kansas City.

Kelly loved to paint, draw and created beautiful jewelry made of beads. Kelly most of all loved animals, including birds, dogs, cats, fish or anything she could love and take care of.

She was preceded in death by her step-daughter, Britney Lauck. In addition to her husband Doug and sons Steven and Justin, she is survived by her sister Pam and husband Rob Hull of Kansas City, MO; a niece Taylor Kaat of Kansas City, MO; a nephew Mason Ashlock, Kansas City, MO; her brother David Krupka, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Kansas City, MO; her parents, David and Sherry Krupka of Liberty, MO and grandmother Lucile Riggs of Liberty, MO.

It was Kelly's wishes to have a Celebration of Life service which will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. at the Oak Grove Park., 76th and North Troost in Gladstone. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society in Memory of Kelly.


Terry Wayne Skinner | d. June 13, 2008

Terry Wayne Skinner, 50, Weatherby Lake, MO passed away Friday, June 13, 2008 at the North Kansas City Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Parkville, MO.

Terry was born August 3, 1957 in Kansas City, MO. He attended Westport High School and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was united in marriage with Karen Simkins-Horst on August 14, 2007 in Deadwood, S.D. She survives of the home.

He was employed by Loomis in Riverside, MO, as Operations Manager. Terry was a Methodist by faith. He was a member of the Greater Kansas City HOG group, the NRA and enjoyed riding his motorcycle.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Shields; and step-father, Jim Shields.

In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by his father, Jack Skinner, Lee’s Summit, MO and mother, Rena Shields, Kansas City, Mo; 1 son, David Wayne Skinner, Kansas City, MO; 1 daughter, Theresa Marie Skinner, Kansas City, MO; 1 step-son, Scott Simkins, Overland Park, KS; 5 brothers, Gary Skinner, Kansas City, MO, Timmothy Skinner, Kansas City, MO, James Shields, Gerald, MO, Dennis Shields, Kansas City, MO, Mark Allen Skinner, Grandview, MO; 2 sisters, Kathleen Barratt, Kearney, MO, Christina Heiman, Kansas City, MO, and many nieces and nephews and 3 grandchildren.

A celebration of Terry's life will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, Parkville, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Heifer International.


Alfred R. "Al" Dana | d. June 13, 2008

Alfred R. “Al” Dana, 86, Kansas City, Missouri went home to be with his Lord on June 13, 2008. He passed away at home in the loving care of his wife, daughter and NorthCare Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 16, 2008 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 7207 N. State Route 9, Parkville, MO with Father Mike Roach as Celebrant. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. A parish and Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed following the visitation. Committal service and entombment will follow at the Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum in Kansas City, MO with Father Pat Tobin officiating. Al was born on July 9, 1921 in Muncie, Kansas to Walter and May (Lane) Dana. Al met his sweetheart, Jean Ferson, at Stony Point Elementary and the two were united in marriage on August 25, 1940 in San Diego, California. Al graduated from American Aviation School. He served in The United States Navy in World War II in 1942. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Hired by TWA in 1945, Al worked his way from Mechanic’s Helper to Manager of the Accessory Shop. Al retired in 1980 after 35 years of service. He made many wonderful friendships during his TWA years. Al was a member of the Father Bernard J. Donnelly Assembly No. 0566, serving as a Knight of the Fourth Degree and Honor Guard.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Rollyn “Ronnie” Dana, his brother, Lane Dana, and his sister, Alberta Dana Trent. He is survived by his wife, Jean Dana, of the home; his daughter and her husband, Connie & J.B. Russell of Kansas City, KS; six grandchildren, Dorothy Kay Dana of Kansas City, MO; David (Tracey) Dana of Edgerton, MO; Ronda (Joe) Perez, of Kansas City, KS; Theresa (Donald) Woolley of Kansas City, KS; Joseph Brian (Rose) Russell of Bonner Springs, KS; and Mike (Shannan) Russell of Grain Valley, MO. He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren. He was so loved by his family. He was our strength and will be sadly missed.


Elwood D. (Woody) Reynolds | d. June 6, 2008

Woody Reynolds, 92, Kansas City, MO formerly of Avondale, MO passed away Friday, June 6, 2008 at the North Kansas City Hospital. Funeral services 2:00p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland. Burial in East Slope Cemetery, Riverside, MO. Visitation 6-8p.m. Monday at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. The pallbearers will be Rick Hill, Brian Hill, Brad Hill, Todd Hill, Tim Hill, Rusty Hill and Chad porter.

Woody was born December 2, 1915 to George T. and Minnie (Searcy) Reynolds-Hill. Woody worked as a farmer in his younger years. He then worked for two different ice companies in the area. He retired from the North Kansas city Water department where he worked as a laborer for many years. He was proud to be union. He married Aleta A. Greenwood on November 11, 1940 in Platte City. She survives of the home.

Survivors include his wife Aleta of the home; 1 son, Elton Leroy and wife Shirley of Lawson, MO; 4 brothers, Raymond Hill of Alma Gorda, NM, Russell Hill, Olathe, KS, Bob Hill, Beverly, MO and Clyde Hill, Beverly, MO; 2 sisters, Della Porter, Weston, MO and Nida Campbell, Whiteville, TN; 2 grandchildren, Rick Reynolds, Lathrop, MO and Debbie Smith, Elmira, MO; 3 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
