Barbara Ann Smith | d. April 29, 2008

Barbara Ann Smith, 64, Gladstone, MO passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at her home. Mass of Christian burial will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Therese Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. at the church.

She was born January 14, 1944 in Tampa, FL. She graduated from St. Pius X and NWMSU, and was united in marriage to Warner Smith on February 14, 1975. She worked as office manager for Mid-American Truck Lines for ten years, and made homemaking her lifetime career. She attended St. Terese Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling to Texas, fishing, bowling, cooking, garage sales, and above all spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her father, John W. Sherbo, Sr., and infant brother, Richard.

She is survived by husband, Warner Smith of the home, mother, Martha (Leonardi) Sherbo of Gladstone, MO; daughter Shelley Kovac (Greg) of KCMO; step daughters Linda Foy (Charlie) of KCK and Stephanie Shipstead (A.J.) of Montana; and son Bruce Smith (Paula) of Montana; brothers John W. Sherbo, Jr., KCMO; Paul Sherbo, Oregon; Karl Sherbo, Liberty, MO; Mark Sherbo, Gladstone, MO; sisters Kathy Nelson, Marshfield, MO; Susan Satur, Virginia; grandson Jesse Kovac, KCMO and several step grandchildren.


Dr. Eric Joseph James Barden | d. April 29, 2008

On Saturday, May 3, 2008, Dr. Eric Joseph James Barden will be laid to rest by his Family and Friends. Born in Glens Falls, NY on 12/15/1972, he passed away April 29, 2008 in Kansas City, MO.

He is survived by his parents Walter and Lillian Joyce Barden, Okeechobee, FL, his children Ashley and Zachary Horton and their mother, Amy Horton of Parkville, MO, his brother, Steven and his wife, Lisa Barden, Tampa, FL, and his many friends.

Eric, a 1990 graduate of South Glens Falls Central High School, South Glens Falls, NY, continued his education and achieved various degrees of scholar post secondary. Starting in NY at Adirondack Community College (Associates Degree), on to SUNY Albany NY(BS), and then graduated from the University of Health Sciences School of Osteopathic Medicine, Kansas City, MO as a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine.

He is remembered as a loving and brave son, a loyal and caring father, a tenacious and exuberant brother, and a passionate and altruistic friend. From his service in the Navy to his zeal and lust for adventure, he lived his life enthusiastically. He is missed by those who love him and wish him a good journey from this terrestrial place to eternity.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville, MO. Dr. Barden will be cremated following the services with inurnment at the Leavenworth National Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 until 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Catherine Williams | d. April 28, 2008

Catherine Williams, 91, Lake Waukomis, MO passed away Monday, April 28, 2008 at the St. Luke's Northland Hospital in Kansas City. Funeral services will be conducted 3:00p.m. Friday at the Park Hill Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Kay Williams and husband David Baird of Brookside, Mo. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wibur Ford Williams and 4 brothers, Robert, Howard, Wilbur and Alva Flemming, Jr.


Gloria R. Cummings | d. April 24, 2008

Gloria R. Cummings, 65, Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, April 24, 2008 at her residence.  She was born July 24, 1942 in Kansas City, KS the daughter of Arthur C. and Marian (Hedstrom) Cummings. They preceded her in death. 

Gloria was a homemaker.  She was a Christian by faith. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Arthur Cummings. Survivors include 8 brothers and 2 sisters. Ms. Cummings has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland.  There are no services scheduled at this time. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.


Betty Jane Franksen | d. April 21, 2008

Betty Jane Franksen, 81, Blue Springs, MO formerly of Grandview, MO passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. Betty was born December 7, 1926 in Fresno, CA to George H. and Josephine Wenstrom Clark. They preceded her in death.

She was a 1944 graduate of Mission High School in San Fransisco, CA. She also attended Junior College in San Fransisco. She and Gerald J. Franksen were united in marriage on September 20, 1947 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in San Fransisco. Mr. Franksen preceded her in death on August 15, 1994. Betty spent the majority of her working years in accounting and bookeeping for the Koret Clothing Company in San Fransisco and for the Quality Park Envelope Company in St. Paul, MN. She later spent many years doing the accounting for her and Gerald's investment properties located in the Kansas City area. She enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and taking family vacations.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters. Survivors include 1 son, Dr. Scott Franksen of Kearney, MO; 1 daughter, Adrienne and husband Mike Wagener of Blue Springs, MO; 1 grandson, Shane and wife Suzanne Wagener of Grain Valley, MO; 1 grandaughter, Nikki and husband Todd DeMint of Parkville, MO, 4 great grandchildren, Kiley and Kole Wagener of Grain Valley and Evan and Avery DeMint of Parkville; 1 half sister, Sandy Harlan of Woodland, CA and 1 brother, George Clark of Jackson, CA. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Church of the Resurrection, 15th Street and RD Mize Rd in Blue Springs.

The family will recieve friends following the service at the home of Mike and Adrienne. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.


Sherman Edward Robbs | d. April 12, 2008

Sherman Edward Robbs, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 66 on April 12, 2008, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. Sherman was born to Cecil and Velma Robbs on June 30, 1941, in Litchfield, Minnesota. A US Navy veteran, Sherm later had a long, successful sales career, retiring from Farmland Foods in 1998. In retirement, Sherm pursued his love of gardening and fishing, always looking forward to his next trip to the northern lakes of Minnesota. His outgoing personality made him a friend to whomever he met. He touched many lives with his encouraging and caring attitude.

Sherm is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Carole Rae Robbs; his daughter, Jennifer Sparks and her husband Mark of Raymore, Missouri; his son, Tim Robbs of Plano, Texas; and his three grandsons, Jackson, Benjamin and Brian Sparks.

In accordance with his final wishes, there will be no funeral or visitation. Final interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota.


Eileen L. McQueen | d. April 10, 2008

Eileen L. McQueen, 80, longtime Northland resident, died April 10, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00a.m Tuesday at St. Therese Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Roach as celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services at the church. Private family burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Parkville.

Eileen was born November 28, 1927 in Seneca, KS the daughter of William E. and Mary (Harpenau) Lackey. She attended schools in Seneca. She later graduated from the Kansas City Business School. She spent the majority of her working years as a doctor’s assistant. She was a devout catholic and attended St. Therese Catholic Church.

She was united in marriage with Robert L. McQueen. He preceded her in death.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters and an infant brother. Survivors include a daughter, Marykaye Webb, Platte County, MO; 2 sons, Robert McQueen, Platte County, MO and Gary McQueen, Cedar Creek, TX and 3 sisters.


Robert Perry Laible | d. April 8, 2008

Bob Laible, 89, of Kansas City, MO, passed away April 8, 2008, at the Garden Valley Manor in Kansas City. Bob was born October 19, 1918, in Omaha, Nebraska to George J. and Ella L. (Mann) Laible. They preceded him in death. He was graduated from the Omaha Public Schools in 1936.

Bob flew Civil Air Patrol off the Atlantic City Boardwalk before entering the United States Army Air Force in 1944. Following his time served in the United States Army, he owned and operated an airport in Bonner Springs, Kansas for twelve years. Bob spent the majority of his working years as an electrician having retired from the J.C. Penney Warehouse in Lenexa, Kansas, in 1986. He was a Methodist by faith and attended the Unity Church Universal in Kansas City, Missouri.

He was a charter member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and was proud to be member #219. He personally started two EAA Chapters in the Kansas City Area including chapter #91.

He and the former Emalou Derington were united in marriage on October 3, 1942, in Wichita, Kansas. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters. Survivors include: two sons, Robert A. Laible of Raleigh, NC, and George J. Laible of Kansas City, KS; one daughter, Deborah L. Laible-Herbert of Parkville, MO, one brother, Lawrence L. Laible of Topeka, KS, and one sister, Beverly Hartman of Gladstone, MO, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Memorial service 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland in Parkville. Private inurnment will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Parkville. There is no scheduled visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: Cancer Action or Experimental Aircraft Association and may be left in care of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main Street, Parkville, MO 64152.


James Joseph Ballinger | d. April 5, 2008

James Joseph Ballinger, 65, of Weatherby Lake, MO, passed away April 5, 2008, in Saline County. Private family services will be held Thursday, April 10, at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main Street, Parkville, MO. Jim was born December 1, 1942, in Hannibal, MO, to Dr. James Loren and Mary Elizabeth Courtney Ballinger. Following graduation from Hannibal High School, he attended Culver Stockton College, then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He worked in the securities industry for 33 years, formerly as General Partner with Edward Jones. In 1992 he joined A.G. Edwards and became Branch Manager of the Liberty and Cameron, MO branch offices; he was recently named Managing Director of A.G. Edwards, a division of Wachovia Securities.

Jim was currently serving as Board Member of Northwest Missouri University Foundation, Northland Community Foundation, Liberty Chamber of Commerce and Partner, Liberty Area Community Growth and Development. Formerly he served as Board Member, Park Hill School District, Board Member, Tri-County Mental Health, and Member of Liberty Rotary Club.

Jim is survived by his Parents, James and Mary Elizabeth Ballinger, of Columbia, MO; Wife, Gaye Noland Ballinger of the home; Sister Sharon Ayers of new London, MO. Daughters Melanie Jo and husband Dr. Timothy Apodaca, Cranston, RI; Carson and husband Joe McCabe, Apple Valley, MN; Son Collin and wife Shirley Young, Kansas City, MO. He will also be greatly missed by his beloved grandchildren, Cameron Young, Afton Apodaca, Mary Grace Apodaca, Mason Young, Emory Apodaca and Violet Apodaca.

A Ballinger-style bash is to follow in coming months.


Lawrence M. Martin | d. April 6, 2008

Lawrence M. Martin, 87, Kansas City, MO, passed away April 6, 2008, at the home. Private family Graveside services and Entombment Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Mount Calvary Cemetery and Mausoleum, Kansas City, Kansas.

Mr. Martin was born February 2, 1921, in Kansas City, KS. He married Loyola Lock in 1941 in Carrollton, MO. The majority of his life he worked as a welder for Williams Brothers Pipeline out of Tulsa, retiring at age 62.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his Wife, Loyola, daughter Linda L. Martin, and sister, Dorothy Clemens. Surviving family includes: Son, Lawrence H. Martin on K.C., MO; Daughters, Barbara Heide, K.C., MO; Catherine Cummings, K.C., MO; and Susan Delgado, K.C., MO; eight grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.


Shirley R. Barnes | d. April 2, 2008 

Shirley R. Barnes, 72, Kansas City, MO passed away Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the North Kansas City Hospital. 

Shirley was born February 15, 1936. She was a homemaker and a christian by faith. 

Shirley has been cremated under the direction of the Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland.  There are no scheduled services at this time.  Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
