Mary Evelyn (Treuthart) Downing
Mary Evelyn (Treuthart) Downing 94 of Blue Springs, MO, formerly of North Kansas City, Pomme De Terre, and Table Rock Lake, passed away February 16, 2012 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Evelyn was born on December 15, 1917 in Carthage, IL to John and Mabel (Diffendurfer) Treuthart. She was a graduate at age 17 of Carthage College. She was united in marriage to Melvin Downing on August 9, 1941 in Santa Barbara, CA. She was an executive secretary at the Maytag, CO. retiring in 1980. Evelyn was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed having and entertaining the family at the lake. She was devoted to her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mel Downing; brothers, Ed, John, and Hubert Treuthart; and sister, Betty Berard.
She is survived by her son David Downing and wife Tricia of Grain Valley, MO; granddaughters, Kimberly Meyers and Husband Marty of Blue Springs, MO, Kristen Reed and husband Chap of Kennesaw, GA; great grandchildren, Kourtney and Chad Meyers of Blue Springs, MO and C.J., Stephen, and Addison Reed of Kennesaw, GA.
Funeral Services for Evelyn will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 19, 2012 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W Main St, Blue Springs, MO, 816-229-3276. Visitation one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Burial will be with Mel at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO on Tuesday. Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be made to the American Cancer Society. Dave, when we were growing up, I always thought your mom was one of the prettiest ladies! So sorry for your loss!
Evelyn’s smile and many kindnesses to me and my family will always be in my heart. She and Melvin were so important to my parents’ joyous retirement years in Branson, MO. In earlier years I remember living near them in North Kansas City with dinners together, new doll clothes, and smiles all around! Godspeed, Evelyn!
