Richard Monroe Berry | d. September 30, 2009
Richard Monroe Berry, 72, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 30, 2009 at his home. Private family services will be held at a later date. Mr. Berry will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the foundation at St. Mary’s Medical Center for the Care Fund.
Richard was born on December 25, 1936 in St. Louis, MO, the second son of Paul W. and Norma F. (Lay) Berry, who preceded him in death. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Richard was united in matrimony to Dian (Baker) on December 25, 1963, and together they enjoyed 45 years of marriage. Richard was a farmer for the majority of his life and enjoyed the time he spent working outside. For the past twenty years, he was a painter and worked often with his son, David. Richard truly enjoyed life and spent as much time as he could with his beloved grandchildren.

Joseph Rush Burgoyne | d. September 30, 2009
Joseph Rush Burgoyne, Sr., 75, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 30, 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 2, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rainbow Center.
Joe was born on October 10, 1933 in Presque Isle, Maine, the son of Eli and Madeline (Rush) Burgoyne. He was a graduate of Presque Isle High School. On May 9, 1987, he was united in marriage to Joni (Rea) in Independence. Together they enjoyed 22 years of marriage. Joe and Joni owned and operated several businesses in Blue Springs, including J&J’s Courier Service and Blue Springs Packing, Inc. Joe loved spending time outside and enjoyed taking care of his lawn. He was a past member of the American Legion Post #499.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a step-brother, Pete Burgoyne.
He leaves behind his wife, Joni of the home; children, Joseph Burgoyne, Jr. of Independence, MO; Cara Kent & husband, James of Parkersburg, West VA; Walter Burgoyne of Caribou, ME; Andrew Burgoyne & wife, Gynna of Ringwood, NJ; Laura Fram & husband, Andrew of Pompton Lake, NJ; sister, Marie Roche & husband, Bill of Reno, NV; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Connie L. Leven | d. September 28, 2009
Connie L. Leven, 60, of Lake Lotawana, MO passed away Monday September 28, 2009 at Lee’s Summit Hospital from a 10 year battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 am Saturday October 3, 2009 and service will follow at 11 am at the United Methodist Church of Lake Lotawana, MO. Cremation will follow.
Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Connie was born December 3, 1948 in Portland, Indiana to Major Donald and Gene (Arn) Schoenlein. She was married to Donald Leven October 19, 1979. She was a secretary for the Blue Springs School District and owned and operated Buckner Surplus. She was a member of the Lake Lotawana Methodist Church, UAW Local 494, American Legion Post 499 Ladies Auxillary, and the Greater KC Hog Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her parents Major Donald and Gene (Arn) Schoenlein and sister Diana K. Bantz.

Roy Edward Murphy | d. September 25, 2009
Roy Edward Murphy, 81, formerly of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 25, 2009 in Republic, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 11-12 noon on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Roy was born on September 1, 1928 in Broken Arrow, OK, the only son of Doyle and Edith (Holiday) Murphy. He was united in marriage to Bobbie Lou Walters on February 11, 1946. Roy worked for many years as a Publisher at the Bolivar Herald Newspaper in Bolivar, MO. He was a member of the Masons.
Roy was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and a sister, Eva Lou.
He leaves behind his children, Sherry Murphy of Spokane, WA, Eddie Murphy, Jr. of Overland Park, KS, Sandy Henderson & husband, Rodney of Olathe, KS, Sue Doty & husband, Rick of Springfield, MO, Ricky Murphy & wife, Cathy of Olathe, KS; ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Lourene K. Bruns | d. September 22, 2009
Lourene K. Bruns, 95, of Boulder City, NV, passed away on September 22, 2009 at her home. She was formerly of Blue Springs. A rosary will be said at 9:00 am, Thursday, October 1, 2009 at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church (4313 SW 7 Highway, Blue Springs) and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery (6901 Troost, Kansas City, MO). The family will receive friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, September 30, 2009. The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.
Lourene was born August 8, 1914, to Alvin G. and Cornelia B. (Chilcote) Johnson in Kansas City, MO. She graduated from East High School in 1932. She married John A. Bruns on New Year’s Eve 1933 at Holy Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO and they were married 63 years until his death. Lourene had a long career in the Sears Roebuck credit department. She retired in 1972. She was a member of the St. Michael’s, Nativity of Mary, St. John LaLande, St. Robert Bellarmine and St. Andrews Catholic Churches. Lourene was a life-long Republican, member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Silver State Chapter, charter member of the Nevada State Cameo Society and the National Society of the United States Daughters of 1812. She and John took frequent vacation trips to Las Vegas, and Lourene taught her grandchildren Black Jack, Keno, and Bingo. She was an avid gardener and had a special gift for nurturing violets. Lourene was accomplished in crocheting and had made many beautiful quilts. Grandmother, as her grandchildren called her, made wonderful fudge and peanut butter cookies, and she passed those recipes along to us. After many years of road trips with their children and their grandchildren, in 1976, they visited Germany.
Lourene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John; twin infant daughters, Katheren and Ann; brothers, Ike, Orville, Todd, and Milan; and a sister, Reva.
She is survived by her son, David John Bruns and wife, Pattie; daughters, Loretta Lourene Bruns McEntire and husband, John; Marilyn Bruns Adair Hamm and husband, Jeff; sister, Edith Johnson; grandchildren, Jacqueline K. McEntire Clark, John P. McEntire, Dr. James K. McEntire, Jill L. McEntire Fields, Timothy Adair, Theodore S. Adair, and Chelsea L. Bruns Wardlow; and 14 Great-grandchildren.
Roger K. Gordon | d. September 19, 2009
Roger K. Gordon, 73, of Lake Tapawingo, Missouri passed away on September 19, 2009 at KU Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services to commence at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Arthritis Foundation, or Wayside Waifs.
Roger was born on February 16, 1936 in Rileyville, VA, the son of Carl W. and Rachel M. (Petefish) Gordon-Vaughan. He became the step-son of John W. Vaughan. Roger was united in marriage to Neva E. (Laughlin) Bratton on December 7, 1964. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sergeant from 1955 to 1975, while making many life-long military friends. Roger had many hobbies including watching sports, listening and singing music, gardening flowers, watching birds, helping and adopting many stray animals, and fishing. He will be most remembered for his love of cooking and planning many family picnics on the lake. Roger was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite Temple and a member of the ARARAT Shriners.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Neva, and brother, James Gordon.

Lorene P. Irvin | d. September 19, 2009
Lorene P. Irvin, 85, passed away Saturday September 19, 2009 at the Villages of Jackson Creek in Independence. Graveside services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Ceaton Cemetery in Dixon, MO. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs, Missouri. Memorial Contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
Lorene was born June 24, 1924 in Dixon, Missouri the daughter of Carless W. and Maude G. Alexander Baker. She was a member of the 1st Christian Church of Blue Springs. She was a teller at the Central Bank for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, and sons, William Irvin and Baby Irvin.

James Donald “J.D.” Cole, 23, Independence, MO. passed away September 15, 2009.
Visitation will be held from 1:30-3:00 pm Sunday September 20, 2009 at First Bible Baptist Church 307 S.E. County Road AA Blue Springs, MO. 64014. Sevice will follow at the church at 3:00 pm. Cremation under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

J.D. was born December 7, 1985 in Kansas City, MO to Steve and Debie (McDowell) Cole. He graduated from Raytown South High School in 2004 and Vatterott College in 2006. He worked in assembly at the GM Fairfax auto plant. He was a member of First Bible Baptist Church. He loved playing piano, soccer, cross country, and working out.

John Allen | d. September 13, 2009
John Allen, 88, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 13, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm, Friday, September 18, 2009 at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ, 555 NW Valley View Rd, Blue Springs, MO. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the church with Patriarch Carl VunCannon officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
John was born on September 18, 1920 in Arion, Iowa, the son of John and Mary E. (Talcott) Allen. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. On June 22, 1947, he was united in marriage to Donna Jean (Baughman). He worked for 32 years as a teacher in the Blue Springs School District in Industrial Arts. John was a long time member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Blue Springs and a life-time member of the VFW #6603.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Alice Winans and Florence Nelson.
John leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Donna Jean of the home; children, Janice Dow of Highlands Ranch, CO, Terri Lindsey of Oak Grove, MO, Tina Tims of Blue Springs, MO, and Jim Allen of Gladstone, MO; sisters, Ila Farrell of Carroll, IA, Jean Dustin of Independence, MO, Inez McCaslen of Sioux City, IA, five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Betty Rivas, 60, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on September 12, 2009 after battling cancer since 2005. Betty was born on December 3, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Howard E. and Alberta N. (Hazen) Gilmore. She was united in marriage to Richard Rivas on September 2, 1967. They had recently celebrated their 42nd anniversary. Betty worked in accounting for many years, but her true love was caring for others. She was always giving of herself and her time. Betty cherished every minute she spent with her grandchildren. She would love to sit on the back porch with Richard and reminisce. Betty was a dedicated military spouse and supported her husband during every endeavor. She was a member of the Ameristar Star Awards Club and a past member of the Optimist Club of Independence.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, son, Anthony Rivas, brother, Arthur Gilmore, and sister, Beverly Douthit.

Margaret was born on October 4, 1924 in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, the daughter of Charles and Byrd (Smith) Myrton. She was a 1944 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School. Margaret was united in marriage to Bill McDowell, who preceded her in death in 1976. Her greatest love and joy was her family. She was a devout follower of Christ and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ White Oak in Blue Springs, MO.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Lucille Tull, son, Darrell McDowell and daughter, Patricia Ann Davis.
She leaves behind her son, Joe McDowell & wife, Debbie of Blue Springs, MO, daughter, Cheryl McDowell of Stafford, VA; daughter-in-law, Robin Roberts & husband, Mike of Kansas City, MO; son-in-law, Larry Davis & wife, Bette of Springfield, MO; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Helen Lorene (CONWELL) Stallbories, 78, passed away Friday September 11, 2009 at her home in Independence, Mo. Come Celebrate the life of Helen (The Queen of Iris’s) at 7:00 PM Wednesday September 16, 2009 Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 W. Main St. Blue Springs, Mo. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Manor or the Crossroads Hospice.
Helen was born on January 18, 1931, the daughter of Elmer and Viola (King) Conwell, of the Conwell Berry Farms. Helen was the third child of four sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her sisters, Virginia Lung, and Ruby Dryer of East Independence and Kay Mahan of Washington, and brother, Jim Conwell of Shell City.
Helen’s six children are, Larry Benson of Raytown, MO, Kathy Poore, Robin Bryan, Matt Stallbories, all of Independence, MO, Adam Stallbories of Maysville, MO, and Nora Martin of Blue Springs, MO. Helen was blessed with eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Helen was the committee person for the Eureka Schoolhouse Reunion and the chairperson for the Conwell Family Reunion.
Richard Byron Matchael | d. September 11, 2009
Richard Byron Matchael, 75, of Lake Tapawingo, Missouri passed away on September 11, 2009. The family will receive friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel from 5-7 pm on Monday, September 14, 2009. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at 11:00 am at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House.
Richard was born on February 25, 1934 in Carthage, Missouri to Joseph and Gladys Matchael. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1956. During his service, he married the love of his life, Lee Anna (Lucas) on March 21, 1954. Richard cherished the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. To them, he was affectionately known as “Granddad”. When Richard wasn’t spending time with his loving family, he would be found fishing. He was a member at the Church of Christ for 43 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Lee Anna, and a son, Richard Byron Matchael, Jr.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Mary Anne Rayburn & husband, Len of Bates City, MO; son, Kevin Matchael & wife, Shawna of Blue Springs, MO; sister, Jolene Rice & husband, Ray of Grand Junction, CO; brothers, Joseph Matchael of Naples, FL, Michael Matchael & wife, Mary of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Chris & Kyle Rayburn, Corey & Chase Matchael, and four great-grandchildren.
Norma Jean Bourne (Kidwell) | d. September 7, 2009
Norma Jean Bourne (Kidwell), 66, of Blue Springs (formerly 25 years in Platte City) passed away Monday, September 7 at her favorite place (Pomme De Terre Lake). She was born July 25, 1943 in Independence to Ralph and Mildred Kidwell. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1961 and went on to Beauty College. She worked for over 45 years as a beautician. For her, the best part was socializing and making new friends. She loved live and her family was everything to her. She was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Kevin Kidwell.
She is survived by Alred P. Bourne, Jr., her husband of 44 years; daughter Carrie McCartney and husband Mike McCartney; daughter Renee Jensen and husband James Jensen; son Darin Bourne and wife Erin Bourne; grandchildren Mitchell McCartney, Danielle McCartney, Megan McCartney, Sabrina DeLozier, Sydney DeLozier, Daryn Bourne and Taylor Bourne; siblings James and Donna Kidwell; Linda Kidwell; Dennis and Cheryl; Russell and Brenda Kidwell, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in her name to the American Heart Association or Hope House.
Mary Janet Gendreau | d. September 7, 2009
Mary Janet Gendreau, 74, passed away September 7, 2009 at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence. Janet will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. Memorial Contributions may be made to Cancer Action, 4010 S. Lynn Ct Dr. Independence, MO 64055.
Janet was born July 21, 1935 in Kansas City, MO to Joseph and Gladyce Hobson. She graduated from Northeast High School in 1953. Janet was united in marriage to Robert Edward Gendreau on August 8, 1953 in Fairmont, MO. She joined Beta Sigma Phi and was a member for over 50 years and became their Area Agent. She coordinated their reunions and functions. She loved to stay in contact with her high school friends and fellow alumni. Janet and her husband Robert loved to travel and did so for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Joanne Black.
Survivors include her husband, Robert “Bob” Gendreau of the home; son, Joseph Michael & Cheryl Gendreau of Gresham, OR; sister, Geraldine & Paul Whiteman of Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Ashleigh, Garrett & Cameron Gendreau; and one great-grandchild, Alex Gendreau.

James B. (Bud) Young | d. September 5, 2009
Bud Young, 78, Blue Springs, MO passed away September 5, 2009 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs. He was born November 21, 1930 in Max Creek, MO to Floyd P. and Floy (Vance) Young. They preceded him in death. He graduated high school in Max Creek and was a veteran of the United States Navy. Bud worked as a telephone subcontractor for Southwestern Bell for over 45 years.
He married Ida J. Moscoe on July 7, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Blue Springs. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his children, Tim Young (Cindy), Independence, MO, Galen Boley (Trudy), Oak Grove, MO, Farren Boley, Blue Springs, MO, Micah Boley, Grain Valley, Mo, Johnny Peavey, Max Creek, Mo, Crystal Ogle (Robert), Blue Springs, MO, Blenda Smith (Richard), Lake Lotawana, Mo, Lana Cook, Kansas City, MO, Jenell Crooks, Lake Lotawana, MO, Sharon Ables (John), Camdenton, MO, Marjie Pound (Neal), Washington; two sisters, Bonnie Osborn, Springfield, MO and Betty Matlock, Hemp Hill, TX; 34 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Walter Peavey, a daughter, Linda Young and 3 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs. Burial will follow at the Blue Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Wednesday at the funeral home.
