Robert W. Cobb Sr | d. October 31, 2009
Robert W. Cobb Sr. 87 of Grain Valley, Mo. passed this life October 31, 2009 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, Mo. Mass of the Christian burial will be Wednesday November 4, 2009 at 10:00 am at St. John Lalande Catholic Church 801 NW RD Mize Rd. Blue Springs, Mo. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday November 3, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 W. Main Blue Springs, Mo. Rosary will be said at 7:00. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor 8745 James A Reed Rd. KCMO 64138
Robert was born September 22, 1922 the son of Samuel and Ruby (Griggs) Cobb. He was an Electrician by trade and was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 124 KCMO. He was a member of St. John Lalande Catholic Church, a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. He was preceded in death by his first wife Agnes (LaMatry) Cobb, sons Clifford and Joseph Cobb, and a sister Clara Faye Lamatry.

VALETA KAYE (NOELL) BAXTER “SKIP” | d. October 28, 2009
Valeta Skip Baxter, 67, of Blue Springs, Mo., passed away October 28, 2009 surrounded by her loving family after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Valeta was born on January 30, 1942 in Archie, Mo., the daughter of Dudley Noell and Betty Noell (Butler). Valeta attended Harrisonville schools, moving to Kansas City attending Paseo High School and then to Blue Springs High School where she graduated in the class of 1959. (The 1959 school yearbook has a quote beneath her picture saying that she lived up to her nickname, “Skip”). On her 18th birthday in 1960, she married Fred Baxter and to this union, 5 children were born.
Skip worked during high school at Lowe’s Drugstore, later working at Western Electric, Lake City Arsenal, a bus driver for the Blue Springs School district (and received the bus driver of the year award). While she drove the school bus, she began beauty school at the Golden Crown Beauty College and upon graduation she began a new career in the beauty business. Skip though not stopping there, she also worked hard and trained to receive her Funeral Directors license. Skip has for the last 24 years been self-employed at Hair Designer’s in Lee’s Summit, Mo.
Skip never met a stranger, she always had a smile for everyone she encountered and was always concerned for their well being. If they were down on their luck or if they just needed a friendly environment, there was always a space at her home. She kept all of us were around her laughing. Skip was a source of strength and an inspiration to all of the people who knew and loved her. She has left a huge imprint on all of our lives and on our hearts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Melissa Baxter. Survivors include three daughters, Tammy Allensworth (Brian), Shanda Baxter, Jana Watterson (Matt), one son, John Baxter (Cheryl), two sisters, Judy Fligg (Bill), Gloria Allen (Doug), one brother, Gene Noell (Sheila), seven grandchildren, Jason Specker, Conner Allensworth, Caleb Baxter, Dylan and Raegan Watterson, Brooke and Adrian Schubert, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, October 30, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with Reverend Eric Means officiating. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or Kansas City Hospice.
Charles Roger DeWitt | d. October 25, 2009
Charles Roger DeWitt (Charlie), age 42, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed from this world on Sunday, October 25, 2009. A service will be held at 7:00 pm, Friday, the 30th of October at Meyers Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm at the funeral home.
Born in Independence, Missouri, Charlie grew up and attended school in Blue Springs, MO. He was active in Scouting and had a great love of the outdoors. Fishing was one of his most enjoyable activities. Traveling extensively as a child with his parents, a passion developed that continued throughout his life taking him to all 50 states of the U.S. and most of North America. He was a voracious reader and prized the moment he sat at the very desk of author, Jack London, where the book “Call of the Wild” was written. He loved the water; rivers, streams, lakes and especially the oceans. Sailing was deeply fulfilling to him and in fact, one of his most treasured life experiences.
Charlie had a very large and loving family and will be missed deeply by his mother, Judy DeWitt, his partner of 13 years, Brad, their shared children; Ryan and Sara, Annakje, Ariel, Jasper and Amber; one grandchild, Jackson; brothers and sisters, Steve and Betty, Stan, Kevin and Margaret; nieces and nephew, Andrea, Zsoubin, Hadiss, and Tami, and countless other friends and loved ones. Last, but not least, his faithful little dog, Louis.
He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth E. DeWitt, whom he loved dearly. He was Charlie’s mentor, friend, and greatest inspiration always.
He inspired and brought joy to everyone around him. Charlie was indeed a light in this world.

Linda Ann Steelman | d. October 25, 2009
Linda Ann Steelman, 56, long time resident of Blue Springs, MO passed away on October 25, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 1-2:30 on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Timothy Lutheran Church (425 NW R.D. Mize Rd., Blue Springs, MO 64014). A Celebration of Life service will follow at 2:30 with Pastor Rich Steensma officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Crossroads Hospice, or the Boy Scouts of America, Heart of America Chapter.
Linda was born on November 30, 1952 in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Thomas Allen and the late Ethelyn B. “Susie” (Meyer) Carrender. She was a 1970 graduate of Sweet Springs R-7 High School. Linda worked for many years as a Database Administrator for Charles Evans Whittaker Federal Court House, Missouri Western District, Circuit #8 in the U.S. Probation and Pre-Trial Services Office. She was a very faithful mother to her two children and was very involved in their Boy Scout and Girl Scout activities. Linda loved being a committee member and being an Adult Leader. In her spare time, she enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens. Linda was a member of Timothy Lutheran Church. Her positive attitude, caring gestures, and loving smiles will be dearly missed.
She leaves behind her children Gary and Kathleen Steelman of Blue Springs, MO; brothers Robert Wayne Carrender (Mona Sweet) of Sedalia, MO, John Allen Carrender (Lori) of Fort Worth, TX; nieces and nephews Chrysta, Bret, Rebecca, and Blake Carrender, Austin and Dylan Steelman; and many true and special friends.

Georgia L. Robison | d. October 19, 2009
Georgia L. Robison, 87, of Independence, Missouri passed away on October 19, 2009. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm, Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 10:00 am Thursday, October 22, 2009. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart & Stroke Association.
Georgia was born on February 7, 1922 in Lead Mine, MO, the daughter of Charlie S. and Della D. (Henderson) Stidham. She was united in marriage to Ralph D. Ash on January 11, 1942 in Macks Creek, MO. She married Bobby D. Robison in 1965. Georgia worked for many years as a Housekeeper for the Park Place Hotel. She loved to play solitaire and listen to country music. Georgia was a very independent, loving person and will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, son, Bennie Lee Ash, five sisters and one brother.
Georgia leaves behind her sons, Jay Dea Ash & wife, Linda of Grovetown, GA, Gary Dean Ash of Independence, MO; daughter-in-law, Donna Ash of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Steve, Lori, Michael, Tina, Annamarie, Jonathan, Timothy, Daniel, and eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Carl Leroy Boenker | d. October 18, 2009
Carl Leroy Boenker, 60, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away unexpectedly on October 18, 2009. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am, Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Timothy Lutheran Church with memorial services to commence at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Carl was born on December 31, 1948 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Leroy Henry and Frances Faye (Secrest) Boenker. They were tragically killed in a car accident in 1950. He was raised by his grandparents, Leroy H. Boenker, Sr. and Marjory C. (Guffey). Carl was a graduate of Hot Springs High School in Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Linda Dianne (Tomlinson) on May 6, 1973 in Kansas City, MO. He was a salesperson in the Paint business from 1974-October 2008. He worked at Gliddon Paint, Surface Paint, Diamond Vogel, and most recently at Gragg’s. He was an active and long-time member of Timothy Lutheran Church and enjoyed ushering and driving the elderly to and from church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister, and Aunt Josephine June Ironsmith.
Carl is survived by his loving wife Linda of the home; sons, Sgt. Michael Boenker of Camp Lejeune, NC, Matthew Boenker of Blue Springs, MO; brother, Kurt Boenker & wife, Marietta of Lee’s Summit, MO; uncle, Harry M. Ironsmith “Duke” of Raytown, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and many true and dear friends.
Jessica Rose Hutton | d. October 14, 2009
Jessica Rose Hutton “The Rose”, 19, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on October 14, 2009.
Jessica was born on December 25, 1989 in Blue Springs, Missouri. She attended Blue Springs High School. Currently, she was attending Valley View High School and would have completed her studies in December. Jessie loved to play volleyball and was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Jessie attended St. John LaLande Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her step-father, Brent Liddle of Blue Springs.
Jessie leaves behind her parents, Julia “Sam” Liddle of the home and Donald Hutton of Blue Springs; brothers, Paul Christman Hutton of Blue Springs, MO, Ryan Thomas Rhyneer of O’Fallon, MO; maternal grandparents, Thomas & Virginia Christman of Halfway, OR, paternal grandparents, Robert & Patricia Hutton of St. Louis, MO, Virginia “Ginger” Liddle of Blue Springs, MO, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and tons of friends.
No services have been scheduled at this time, however, an informal gathering will be held at the Student Life Center of First Baptist Church of Blue Springs (1301 Main St., Blue Springs, MO) on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm.

William Shannon White | d. October 13, 2009
Will White, 32, of Blue Springs, Missouri went to be with his Grandma and Grandpa Jones on October 13, 2009. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Lantern Room at the American Legion Post #499 (499 SW Missouri 7 Hwy, Blue Springs) at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 25, 2009.
Will was born on March 18, 1977 in Independence, MO, the only son of William and Wilma (Jones) White. He had attended Grain Valley High School. Will worked at the North Price Chopper in Blue Springs in the Produce Department. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion at Post #499.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William Edmund and Dessie Louise Jones.
He leaves behind his mother, Wilma White & Jeff Nelson of Grain Valley, MO; father, William White of Texas; fiancée, Leanna Daugherty of Blue Springs, MO; uncles, Ed Jones & wife, Kathy of Bonita Springs, FL, Barry Jones & wife, Phoebe of Independence, MO; Dwayne Jones & wife, Brenda of Lee’s Summit, MO; cousins, David Lowe, Michele Morin, Lisa Bales, Nick Jones, Kristin Jones, Kim Armstong, Ryan Jones and Taylor Jones; and many special friends, including Clint & Amber Evans, Joe Evans, Lonnie & Mary Martin, Jason Pelto, Davey McDaniel, and Bonnie Horton and all of his fellow employees at Pricechopper.

Frances Florence Gawlik Bowles | d. October 3, 2009
Frances Florence Gawlik Bowles, 92, beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Bowles, passed away on October 3, 2009 at Kindred Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Born March 21,1917 in Cestohowa, TX, to the late Joseph Ignatz Gawlik, Jr., and Frances Florence (Moczygemba) Gawlik of Cestohowa, TX, Mrs. Bowles and her husband arrived in Kansas City, MO in 1950 with their four oldest daughters. She was a resident of Blue Springs, MO since 1957.
She was preceded in death by grandson Timothy Longwith, grandson-in-law Marty Lewis, son-in-law Thomas A Harnage, five brothers and six sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joseph T. and Michelle Bowles of Prairieville, LA, six daughters and four sons-in-laws: Nancy Harnage of Hahira, GA, Marilyn Olson of Independence, MO, Kay and John Longwith of Independence, MO, Evaughn and Donald Cox of Buffalo, MO, Connie and Jerry Evans of Louisburg, MO, and Suzanne and Michael Hook of Kansas City, MO.; one sister : Theresa Lyssy of Stockdale, TX; a beloved friend and sister-in-law, Aline Bowles Dorsey of Westminster, CO.; 20 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A loving mother, dedicated worker and devout Catholic, Mrs. Bowles was a member of the St. John LaLande Catholic Church in Blue Springs, MO, since 1957. She taught her seven children about the Lord and to pray every day. She had a tremendous faith in God throughout her life. She so enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren, and she attended all the family gatherings until her frail body could no longer make it. She would then pray for them all daily. Mrs. Bowles was an excellent homemaker, mastering the arts of cooking and sewing, and she also enjoyed volunteer work for many years at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. After the death of her husband in 1986, she began a second career, at the age of 69, as a Wal-Mart door greeter. She so enjoyed this career for the next 15 years.
Our beloved mother and grandmother had the most beautiful smile that could touch any heart, and she so did ours. We’ll miss her and all her loving ways very much, but we know she has gained her heavenly reward and is our own special guardian angel.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 am Thursday October 8, 2009 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. said by Fr. John Eldringhoff. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church at 801 NW R.D. Mize Road Blue Springs, MO 64015-8402.
