Evelyn Elizabeth Wager | d. November 30, 2009

Evelyn Elizabeth Wager, 87, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2009 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 3:30-4:30, Thursday, December 3, 2009 at John Knox Village Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 4, 2009, also at the chapel. Private burial will be held at Cameron Memory Gardens in Cameron, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Evelyn was born on January 25, 1922 in Kidder, Missouri, the only daughter of the late S. Sterling and Freda (Embleton) Shaw. She was united in marriage to Lawrence H. Wager on March 13, 1949. Evelyn earned her Bachelor’s Degree from CMSU in Home Economics. She worked many years at Borden Milk Company. Evelyn enjoyed her family, gardening, socializing with friends, and was an accomplished cook. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood and Platte Woods Methodist Church.

She leaves behind her husband of 60 years, Larry Wager of Lee’s Summit, MO; children, Judy Jordan & husband, Ray of Blue Springs, MO, Nancy Posek & husband, John of Cary, NC; and beloved grandchildren, Kim and Chris Jordan, and Katie, Jennifer, Matthew, and Stephen Posek.

Diana Carol Mitchell | d. November 27, 2009

Diana Carol Mitchell, 54, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on November 27, 2009 at her home. An informal gathering will be held from 1:30-2:30 pm, Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with a ceremony following. The family requests casual dress. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Service League in Blue Springs.

Diana was born on July 24, 1955 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Russell L. and M. Charlene (Estes) Hedrick. She previously lived in Boonville, Missouri before moving to Blue Springs fifteen years ago. Diana was Christian by faith.

She is survived by her children, Shawn Dunavant & wife, Dawn of Blue Springs, MO, Justin Mitchell & wife, Abby of Austin, TX; parents, Russell and Charlene Hedrick of Calhoun, MO; brothers, Terry Hedrick of Jefferson City, MO, Russell Dean Hedrick of Versailles, MO, Marty Hedrick of Grain Valley, MO; sisters, Donna Keller of Calhoun, MO, Joni Dietz of Kansas City, MO; and two grandchildren, Jarrett and River Dunavant of Blue Springs, MO.


Mary Lou Comer | d. November 24, 2009

Mary Lou Comer of Kansas City, MO passed peacefully into glory on November 24, 2009. She was born on March 16, 1929 in Blue Springs, Missouri, daughter of the late Deward and Ruth (Stone) Pressly. She was a 1947 graduate of Blue Springs High School and attended Modeling School.

She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bill B. Comer on November 7, 1949. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker. Mary Lou enjoyed attending her monthly “school lunches” with her high school classmates through the past years. During the last few years, she greatly enjoyed being a tour guide for Oregon Trails Tours and the friendships she made doing that. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs since childhood. Mary Lou will be dearly missed as she was the life of all parties and great to have at all family functions. We love you and will look forward to seeing you in heaven with our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Bill; son, Kirk L. Comer; and brother, Deward Pressly, Jr. Mary Lou leaves behind her daughter, Diane Smith & husband, Michael of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, Scott Comer & wife,

Olivia of Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Ross Cuzick, Laura O’Donnell, Valerie Smith, Michele Smith, Ryan Comer, Jonathan Comer, Travis Comer, Marty Selman, and Brad Comer; eleven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and loving friends.

The family will receive friends from 10-12 noon on Saturday, November 28, 2009 at the First Christian Church of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be at 12 noon at the church. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.


Norman Mason | d. November 24, 2009

Norman Mason, 68, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2009 at his home. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am, Monday, November 30, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 am at the chapel. Burial will follow at Lobb Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.

Norman was born on October 4, 1941 in Picayune, Mississippi, the son of the late Edward and Laura (Kendrick) Mason. He was a graduate of Paseo High School in 1959. Norman was united in marriage to the love of his life, Voda Marie (Glinn) on March 4, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was employed at General Motors in the Maintenance Department and retired in 1990 after 31 years of service. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, boating, and most of all, woodworking. He was an active member of the Independence Midtown Optimist Club.

He leaves behind his wife of nearly 50 years, Voda; children, Pam Mason and Randy Mason, all of Blue Springs, MO; brother, Glen Mason of Peculiar, Missouri; nephew, Nick Mason of Archie, MO; niece, Jennifer Meiries of Greenwood, MO; and beloved dog, Sherman.


Herman Daniel “Danny” Spain | d. November 14, 2009

Herman Daniel “Danny” Spain, 61, of Independence, Missouri passed away on November 14, 2009. Mr. Spain will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions to Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care.

Danny was born on March 23, 1948 in New Madrid County, Missouri, the son of the late Herman J. and Sara B. (Choat) Spain. He was a retiree of Armco Steel Company. Danny is survived by his children, Tracy Lynn Spain of Oak Grove, MO, Craig Daniel Spain of Sedalia, MO; siblings, Patricia Shelton & husband, Terry of Blue Springs, MO, Bennie Spain & wife, Nancy of Lexington, MO, Terry Spain & wife, Terry of Independence, MO; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.


Richard L. Carnal, Jr. (Dick) | d. November 14, 2009

Richard L. Carnal, Jr. (Dick) 66, Blue Springs, MO died November 14, 2009 at Centerpoint Hospital, Independence, MO.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm Wednesday November 18, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main Street Blue Springs, Missouri 64015 816-229-3276. Memorial Service will follow at 2 pm at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital.

Dick was born February 15, 1943 in Pitcher, Oklahoma to Richard and Jerry (Roe) Carnal, Sr. He worked for the Oldham Sausage Company, R.B. Rice Sausage Company and retired from Sara Lee Sausage Division in Baltimore, Maryland in 1993 as Vice President. After retirement he was a local grocery business owner from 1993-2004.

Dick was a member of the Masons of Blue Springs, Scottish Rite of Kansas City, Ararat Shrine of Kansas City and the Harley Davidson HOG Chapter of Kansas City.

Mary A. Gunter | d. November 13, 2009

Mary A. Gunter 94 of Blue Springs, Missouri Formally of Wichita Kansas passed away Friday November 13, 2009 at the Waterford Ladies Home in Blue Springs, Mo.

Graveside Service will be 1:00 pm Wednesday November 18, 2009 at the Resthaven Garden of Memory 11800 W. Kellogg, Wichita, Kansas 67209. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 W. Main St. Blue Springs, Mo. 64015. A rosary will be said at 7:00 pm.

Mary was born June 3, 1915 the daughter of David W. and Regina (Schwartz) McCann. She was a member of the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Gunter in 1981 and a grandson.

Thomas E. Negus | d. November 11, 2009

Thomas E. Negus, 50, of Blue Springs, Missouri went to be with the Lord on November 11, 2009 surrounded by his loving family at St. Mary’s Hospital. The family will receive friends from 2-3 pm, Sunday, November 15, 2009 at Woods Chapel Bible Fellowship Church in Blue Springs, MO. A Celebration of Life service will be at 3:00 pm at the church officiated by Pastor Rodger Williams. Inurnment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Tom was born on December 12, 1958 in Endicott, NY, the son of George A. and Virginia A. (Moore) Negus. He was united in marriage on November 10, 1979 to Elizabeth Ann (Vargo). Tom served his country for many years and retired as a Captain in the U.S. Army. He then went on to obtain his Masters degree in Human Resources from Webster University. Tom currently worked for Metropolitan Community College. He was a faithful and active member of Woods Chapel Bible Fellowship Church.

Tom leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth; son, Benjamin Negus of Independence, MO; daughter, Kristen & son in law Mark Angarita of Blue Springs, MO, parents George & Virginia Negus of Binghamton, NY; brothers Andy, Paul, & Dan Negus; sister, Allison Negus. Tom will be remembered as a humble man who loved life and serving the Lord.


William Samuel “Sam” Bitzer | d. November 7, 2009

William Samuel “Sam” Bitzer, 38, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on November 7, 2009 at his home. The family will receive friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel from 6-8 pm, Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Old Salem Cemetery in Independence, Missouri.

Sam was born on March 9, 1971 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Tom and Mary (Born) Bitzer. He was a 1989 graduate of Fort Osage High School. Sam had worked for AT&T for two years as a Premise Technician. He loved to listen to music, take his wife to movies, and work on any audio system he could get his hands on. He was a member of Crossroads Church in Grain Valley. Sam was united in marriage to the love of his life, Christina (Dawn) on August 3, 1996. To this union, a beautiful girl, Hannah Grace was born. To Sam, family was more important than anything. His daughter became his true joy.

Sam was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Virginia Born and paternal grand father, Edward N. Bitzer, Sr.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Christina of the home; daughter, Hannah; mother, Mary Bitzer of Independence, MO; father, Tom Bitzer and step-mother Marilyn of Grain Valley, MO; sister, Carey Hall & husband, Michael of Kansas City, MO; and a niece, Sarah Hall of Kansas City, MO.


Kathryn Lou Kimball | d. November 7, 2009

Kathryn Lou KimballKathryn Lou Kimball, 67, of Independence, Missouri went to be with her Lord, whom she served all her life, on November 7, 2009. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:00 pm on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 pm, conducted by Pastor Willie Davis. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Sycamore Hills Baptist Church Building Fund.

Kathy was born in Berryville, AR on February 6, 1942, the only child of the late Lee and Mary (Jackson) Toney. She was a 1960 graduate of Berryville High School. Soon after graduation, she was united in marriage to Larry Kimball. Kathy was a very active member at Sycamore Hills Baptist Church and truly enjoyed teaching pre-school and working with the children. Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and cook. She was one of a kind and will be missed by each and every person whose life she touched.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of the home; daughter, LeeAnn Teter of Independence, MO; son, Chris Kimball of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Teter.


Joan Crawford | d. November 5, 2009

Joan Crawford, 78, of Warsaw, MO passed away on November 5, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mrs. Crawford will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 20, 2009 at the First Baptist Church of Warsaw (305 W. Jefferson Warsaw, MO 65355). The family suggests memorial contributions to the Sedalia Animal Shelter.

Joan was born on November 7, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, the only daughter of Ross M. and E. Dorothy (Hays) White. She was united in marriage to Everet Harlen Crawford, and two children were born to this union. She was employed for many years as an Executive Secretary for the Blood Bank. Joan was one of the Founders for the Nelson-Roff Animal Shelter in Warsaw and remained very active until it’s closing a few months ago. She also ran this thrift shop for the shelter in town. Joan was a member of the First Baptist Church of Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Everet.

Joan leaves behind her children, Janet L. Keller & husband, Jim of Warsaw, MO, Richard R. Crawford of Independence, MO; brothers, Jerry White of Jamesport, MO, Gordon White of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Dave Richard Young, II, Craig Matthew Young, Jamie Renee Keller, Jack F. Keller; great-grandchildren, Shelby Young, Madison Young, Davey Young, and Matthew Young.


Frances M. Milburn | d. November 4, 2009

Frances M. Milburn, 90, Independence, MO passed away November 4, 2009 at Monterey Park Care Center.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 am Friday November 6, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main Blue Springs, MO 64015 816-229-3276.
Service will follow at 11 am at the chapel with burial being at Bates City Cemetery.

Frances was born June 29, 1919 in Bates City, MO to David and Eula (Kitt) Ring. She worked for Alcoa Manufacturing until her retirement. She was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Blue Springs, MO. Frances was very active in her church and she was an avid gardener.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters.

Russell Underwood | d. November 1, 2009

Russell UnderwoodRussell Underwood completed his fulfilling journey through life at the age of 74 on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Kansas City Hospice House.  In the final days of his journey, he was lovingly surrounded by his devoted wife, Judi, his two sons, Russ and Jay, his daughter Jana, his grandchildren, Tristan, Jason, Kylea, Corey, Allee, his "sweetie pumpkin" Catie, his sons-in-law, Bryan and Dave, and his daughter-in-law Debi.  Russ was joyously greeted into the presence of Christ by his two daughters, Joy and Tammy.  

Russ was born on January 10, 1935 in Sweet Springs, Missouri, the son of William and Ruby Underwood.  He graduated from Marshall High School in 1952.  Following high school, he joined the United States Navy and proudly served for 22 years.  During his time in the military, Russ enjoyed circling both oceans and traveling to such places as Japan, Cuba, Korea, and Hawaii.  After several tours as a sonarman and oceanographic tech, Russ and his family were stationed in Argentia, Newfoundland and Coos Bay, Oregon.  Upon his retirement as a Senior Chief, he and his family returned to Missouri in 1973. 

Russ was a gentle and kind man who was an avid history buff, always reading books or watching television programs about historical events.  Along with his knowledge of all things history, he also loved music.  Music of all kinds was in Russ' vast collection of records, tapes and CDs, all of which were readily available at a moment's notice.  Russ also had a very personal relationship with his Heavenly Father, one that sustained him through all phases of his life. 

Russ' main passion in life was his family whom he loved unconditionally.  He was always willing to give advice, directions or to simply lend a compassionate ear.  Russ' knowledge was endless in many different areas ranging from household repairs, mechanical, and electrical to life in general, which was invaluable to his family when facing any task or life situation, whether small or complex. Russ will be missed dearly by all who knew and loved him. 

Russ leaves many stories and memories with his wife of 40 years, Judi Underwood; his children Russell Underwood and wife Susan (children: RJ and Christina), Jay Barton and wife Debi (children: Jason and Allee), Jana McArthur and husband Bryan (children: Corey and Catie), Charlie Underwood (children Josh and Cassie), Debbie Ulmer; son-in-law Dave Raines; grandchildren Tristan and Kylea Raines; and great-granddaughter Addisyn Underwood. Private funeral services were held Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs.  Burial with military honors was held at Blue Springs Cemetery. 


Elsie M. Mitchell | d. November 1, 2009

Elsie M. Mitchell, 69, Blue Springs, MO passed away November 1, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Cremation will be under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm Wednesday November 4, 2009 at Celebration Community Fellowship 101 S.W. South Avenue Blue Springs, Missouri 64014.

Elsie was born May 10, 1940 to Carl and Constance (Sheffield) Merriott, Sr. in Independence, Missouri. She was a bridal consultant for Macy’s until her retirement.

She was a member of the Celebration Community Fellowship in Blue Springs.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, and a brother.
