Gerald Dean Craven | d. February 28, 2009
Gerald Dean Craven, 63, Blue Springs, Missouri passed away February 28, 2009.
Graveside Service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday March 3, 2009 at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri . Memorial Service will be held Tuesday at 5:00 pm at First Church of the Nazarene in Blue Springs, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Gerald was born to George and Maxine (Wymore) Craven in Lincoln Nebraska on November 22, 1945. He grew up in the Summerfield and Beattie, Kansas area before going to the US Navy, during the Vietnam War, after high school. After 6 years in the Navy he received an honorable discharge. He started his family in Gladstone, MO where he worked for General Electric for 25 years. To save uprooting his family, when G.E. closed, he retired from G.E. and worked for a convenience store until his health became and issue. Many people’s lives were touched by Jerry throughout his lifespan. REST IN PEACE!
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Leslie Craven, Sister Bessie Louise Craven and 2 granddaughters.

Nyta Armstrong Brooks | d. February 27, 2009
Nyta Armstrong Brooks of Grain Valley, MO passed away Friday February 27, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family present.
She was born December 17, 1927 in Tulsa Oklahoma moving later with her parents to Cushing, Oklahoma. There she met and married Bob Brooks. They were about to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary. To be nearer to their children they moved to Grain Valley in 2006 from Cushing where they owned Brooks Clothiers.
Nyta was a beautiful, vibrant woman. She made everyone around her feel special and loved spending time with her family and her cat Peaches.
She is survived by her husband of the home and their son Bob Jr. and his wife Jennifer and their daughter Kathy Gross. Grandchildren Carrie and husband Shane Moutray; Nikki and husband Brian Stevenson and Jacob Gross. Becca and husband Matt Sopeland. Brett Brooks and wife Kristin and Ben Brooks. Great-grandchildren Riley and Landon Moutray, Emme, Liv, and Jack Sopeland.
Reverend Woodrow H. Moore | d. February 25, 2009
Woodrow (Woody) Moore, age 96, passed away Feb. 25, 2009 at Golden Living Care Center of Independence, MO. Woods was born August 14, 1912 to James and Nola Moore of Doniphan, Missouri. He attended Southwest Baptist College and graduated from William Jewell College in 1940. He received a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Central Baptist Theological Seminary and served in public relations at Hannibal LaGrange College, William Jewell College, and Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. Rev. Moore served as a Baptist Minister at numerous Baptist churches throughout the state of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven older sisters, his wife, Mary, for sixty-one years, and his son, Willard. Woody is survived by his sons: Kyle (Beverly) of Holland, Ohio and John (Beverly) of Independence, MO; four grandchildren: Becky Estes of Glendale, AZ, David Moore of Toledo, OH, Angela Sweet of Manchester, MO, and Adam Moore of Kansas City, MO; and four great-grandchildren.
Rev. Moore was cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. No memorial services will be held at this time. Burial will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery in Clarksburg, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.

Gertrude “Trudy” McWilliams 84, of Blue Springs, Missouri went to be with the Lord February 21, 2009 at the KC Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held 10:30 am Thursday February 26, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection at the corner of 15th St. and RD Mize Road Blue Springs, Missouri. Burial at Blue Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Tuesday February 24, 2009 at the Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main St. Blue Springs, Missouri. Gertrude was born April 18, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Paul F. and Gertrude Miller Nindel. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and had also attended the Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral Kansas City, Missouri. After 20 years of service she retired at United Missouri Bank in 2005. She and her husband co-owned Technical Personnel Exchange for many years. She was a past member of the Rockwood and the Hillcrest Country Clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband William T. McWilliams Sr. in 1989 and a brother Robert Nindel.

Norma J. Kopacz | d. February 20, 2009
Norma J. Kopacz, 81, Blue Springs, MO passed away February 20, 2009 at The Villages at Jackson Creek.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Monday February 23, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main Street Blue Springs, MO 64015 816-229-3276. Service will be held at 10 am Tuesday February 24, 2009 at the chapel with burial following at Blue Springs Cemetery. Norma was born October 17, 1927 in Westville, Illinois to Robert and Nellie ( Ford) LeCount. She was a surgical registered nurse. She married Walter Kopacz September 9, 1950 and he survives. She was a Catholic by faith. Norma was a member of NARFE and the Nursing Association of Illinois. She loved cooking for her family, flower arranging, traveling and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son Bruce Alan Kopacz in 1987.

George Mayer Taylor | d. February 16, 2009
George Mayer Taylor 60 of Blue Springs Missouri passed away on February 16th 2009 at Centerpoint Medical Center. The family will receive friends from 5-7 on Thursday February 19th 2009 at Meyer Funeral Chapel located at 1600 Main Street in Blue Springs. Burial will follow at Blue Springs cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Yellowstone Conservatory.
Our father was born on February 29th 1948 in Moberly Missouri by George and Mattie Taylor, who preceded him in death. He graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1966 and attended Southwest Baptist. Our father worked for 33 years at Kansas City Power and Light at a Maintenance mechanic at Grand Avenue, Northeast and Hawthorn stations. Dad’s true loves were reenacting the golden age of the Mountain Man, bass fishing at Truman Lake, fly fishing and photographing bears in Yellowstone National park and spending time with his new granddaughter Elizabeth. Dad was a past president and vice president of Strothers Free Trappers, a member of the Colorado Springs Muzzleloaders, IBEW#412 and Lunkers Bass Club.
He leaves behind his wife Linda of 41 years, his sons James and Chris, Daughter in law Lynda and Granddaughter Elizabeth and brother Dennis.
Grace E. Gerhart | d. February 15, 2009
Grace E. Gerhart, 89, of Odessa, Missouri, formerly of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on February 15, 2009 at her home surrounded by her loving family. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at First United Methodist Church in Odessa. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Reverend Sam Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at Odessa Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Odessa Senior Citizens Center (217 S 2nd Street Odessa, MO 64076).
Grace was born on April 22, 1919 in Cope, Colorado to Guy R. and Anna E. (Craig) Smith. She was united in marriage to Harold B. Wilson, and together they had two daughters, Betty and Janice. Later in life, she married Clyde Gerhart, who preceded her in death. Grace absolutely adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cherished the time spent with them. She enjoyed playing card games and in her younger years, playing various musical instruments. Grace had a passion for poetry and created many beautiful poems. She was a past member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs and was baptized there in April of 1982. She was employed at Harmon Electronics until her retirement in 1999, where she made many special friends. Grace was a loving mother and grandmother and will be missed.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clyde Gerhart; daughter, Janice Marie Wilson-Scott and her husband, Gary; brother, Lloyd Smith; sisters, Vera Smith-Spencer and Ether Smith-Miller.

Jeffie Clevil Shelley, 90, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on February 5, 2009 at her home. Visitation will be held from 4-5 pm on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services to follow at 5:00 pm. Burial will be on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Awareness.
Clevil was born on April 6, 1918 in Ash Flat, Arkansas to Thomas J. and Eula M. (Kent) Shelley. She worked for over 40 years at Montgomery Wards as a Customer Service Representative. Clevil was a dedicated member of Central Christian Church in Kansas City, Kansas until its closing. She enjoyed quilting and spending time doing crafts at Vesper Hall.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Orphis Shelley, William Shelley, and Arlien Taylor; and nephews, Jerry Taylor and Stephen Shelley.
Clevil leaves behind her nieces and nephews, Clyde Shelley, Dale Shelley, Jeff Shelley, Marilyn Grabel, Jan Rogers, and Donald Shelley.

Joan Marion Hecht, 69, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on February 2, 2009. The family will be receiving friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel on Friday, February 6, 2009 from 4-6 pm. Joan was born on October 16, 1939 in Jamestown, New York to Wallace & Marion (Camp) LeBurg. She was united in marriage to Donald Hecht on January 28, 1961 and together they have enjoyed 48 years of marriage. Joan had spent many years at SunnyPointe Elementary School as a Primetime Teacher where she shared her love of art with all her students. Her passion was creating beautiful paintings for all her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Donald LeBurg.

Leatha was born on April 3, 1919 in Elk Creek, Missouri to Gilford and Mary (Aldridge) Brown. She was united in marriage to Robert C. Miller on December 23, 1940. Leatha was a very devoted wife and cherished the time she spent with her children. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs and enjoyed attending her Sunday School class. In her spare time, Leatha enjoyed sewing and creating hand-made quilts for her family.
Leatha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; siblings, Paul Brown, Orville Brown, Pearl Yarnall, Wade Brown, Roy Dean Brown, and Kay Brown.

Wayne was born January 2, 1953 in Cheyene, Wyoming to Verden and Arlene (Kenney) Thompson. He was a manager in the transportation industry for many years having worked for Signal Delivery and JB Hunt during that time. He was a member of the St. Peter’s United Methodist Church of Blue Springs. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Legion and the Elks Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
