Olivia Lynn Shay | d. December 24, 2009

Olivia Lynn Shay, 4 months, of Levasy, Missouri passed away on December 24, 2009. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm, Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Six Mile Baptist Church (26005 E. Blue Mills Road, Sibley, MO 64088). Funeral services at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made care of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Olivia was born on August 19, 2009 in Independence and was our “Little Princess”. She leaves behind her parents, Aaron and Elizabeth (King) Shay of Levasy, MO; brother, Wyatt Lantz of the home; maternal grandparents, Cathy & Rick Copeland of Sibley, MO; paternal grandparents, Steve and Lori Shay of Lee’s Summit, MO; paternal great-grandparents, Bryant & Carole Willms of Lee’s Summit, MO, Richard & Louise Donovan of Hubert, NC; aunts and uncles, Crystal & David Graham, Tim & Tressa King, Elizabeth Irvin, James Shay; and cousins, Zeke King, Owen Graham, Mason Irvin, and Ciara Irvin.

She was preceded in death by her maternal great-grandparents, Harvey & Mary Jo Huntsucker.


Robert Gordon Alcox | d. December 21, 2009

Robert Gordon Alcox, 83, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on December 21, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 11:00 am at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will follow at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Cemetery.

Robert was born on August 30, 1926 in Castile, New York, the only child of the late Harry L. and Gertrude E. (Munson) Alcox. Robert enlisted in the Navy and then went to Radio Engineering School in Kansas City. He served his country during WWII from 1944-1946. Robert was a member of the Blue Springs Oddfellows Lodge Post 497, VFW Post 6603 and was a regular at the local casinos. He was united in marriage to Ruth Ann Kolkmeyer on April 3, 1989. Robert worked for thirty years as an Engineering Associate at AT&T.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ruth of the home; son, Robert G. Alcox, II & wife, Christy of Norman, OK; daughter, Genevieve Flynn & husband, Kevin of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren, Jennifer Alcox of Norman, OK, Marissa Flynn of Kansas City, MO, Joshua Alcox & wife, Cherie of Austin, TX; one great-grandchild, Adriana Alcox and one on the way. He also leaves behind his step-children, David Baker of Independence, MO, Lisa Stoll of Geneva, IL, Anita Watson of Blue Springs, MO; step-grandchildren, Kenton Mitchell (Audi) of Peoria, IL, Blake Barker of Kansas City, MO, Kelsey Barker of Maryville, MO, Lindsay Stoll of Geneva, IL, Lauren Stoll of Geneva, IL, Kristin Alexander of Blue Springs, MO, Weston Watson of Blue Springs, MO, Dalton Watson of Blue Springs, MO; and step-great-grandchildren, Alaura, Jenna, Isabelle, Kambria, and Jaden.


Virgle L. “Cotton” DaMour | d. December 20, 2009

Virgle L. “Cotton” DaMour, 91, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on December 20, 2009 of congestive heart failure, COPD, and renal failure. The family will receive friends from 10-11 am, Wednesday, December 23, 2009. The funeral will be at 11:00 am in the chapel. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.

Cotton was born in Baskin, Louisiana April 15, 1918 to Dave and Rosline DaMour, both deceased. Cotton held various jobs over the years, after graduating from high school in 1936 he worked at a paper mill, a Conservation Camp established by President Hoover and at various other jobs. He joined the Army in 1941 and was a member of the 199th Division that served in the Battle of the Bulge. He received several service medals.

In August 1951, he married Aleene Carter, relocating to Blue Springs, Missouri. He began working at the J.C. Nichols Company in 1955 and retired in 1980. He was an active member of the United Game Breeders Association and traveled the country to attend cockfighting meets in Arizona, Louisiana, Kansas and Oklahoma. He was also a regular at the casinos in the metro area.

He is survived by his daughter, Melody DaMour-Cox and husband, Darrell “Skeeter” Cox of Raytown, Missouri; two nieces, Janis Mann of Westlake, LA, Rosemary Whitmire of West Lake, LA; and a nephew, Dr. Mesonie Hally of Lake Charles, LA.

Cotton was truly a “man’s man”. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.


Stephen Eugene Hall | d. December 18, 2009

Stephen Eugene Hall, 57, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on Dec. 18, 2009 at his home. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery on Monday, Dec. 28th, 2009 at 11:00 am. Contributions c/o Meyers Funeral Chapel. Arr: Meyers Funeral Chapel 816.229.3276


Rowland E. “Jack” Sievers | d. December 17, 2009

Rowland E. “Jack” Sievers, 89, passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his home.

He was drafted into the Army in 1941, just before Pearl Harbor. He was in the 3rd Armored Division before volunteering and joining the 5th Ranger Battalion, which landed on Omaha Beach on D Day. He and his family resided in Leavenworth, Kansas for many years and was in the floor covering and furniture businesses. Jack was a current member of the American Legion Post #499 in Blue Springs and a past member of the Lions Club of Leavenworth, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and a brother. Survivors include his wife, Lavon of the home, one daughter, Sue Ann Edmondson and husband, Kent, one son, Douglas Sievers; three grandsons, two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Peggy Happy; cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends. He will be missed by all.

Mr. Sievers will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel after services are held. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. A memorial services conducted by Pastor Bob Kaps will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Three Rivers Hospice or to your charity of choice.


Robert E. Ericson | d. December 16, 2009

Robert E. Ericson, 66, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on Dec. 16th, 2009. Visitation from 2-4 pm, Sunday, Dec 20th at Chapel Hill Presbyterian. Funeral services at 10:00 am, Monday at the church. Howard Wilson Laws | d. December 8, 2009

Howard Wilson Laws, 93, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on December 8, 2009 at the Kansas City Hospice House. The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday in the chapel with Dr. Jerry Craig officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Hospice House (12000 Wornall Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145) and to U.S.O. World Headquarters (Dept WS, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20090-6960).

Howard was born on August 7, 1916 in Farmington, Missouri to David J. and Gertrude J. (Yeargin) Laws. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on January 21, 1941 and served in the original Horse Calvary. Howard worked in Army Logistics for over 25 years during the periods of WWII and the Korean War. During his time in the service, he was united in marriage to Lelia M. (Parks). Howard retired from the military on September 30, 1968 as a Master Sergeant E8. After his service, Howard truly enjoyed golfing and traveling. He was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, James R. Laws in 2004; brothers, Claude David and Charles Laws, and sisters, Ruby Feezor and Mildred Hopkins.

Howard leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Lelia Laws of the home; children, Gary Laws & wife, Mary of Overland Park, KS, Kathy Laws of Blue Springs, MO; siblings, Joyce Simms of Farmington, MO, Nellie Marie Kollmeyer of Farmington, MO, Joel J. Laws of Fort Worth, TX; five grandchildren, Russell (Pam) Laws, David (Liz) Laws, Scott (Kim) Laws, Janneane (Capt. Jeremy) Gerot, and Sgt. Andrew Laws, who is currently on tour in Iraq; and ten great-grandchildren.

Special thanks to Julia for dancing, singing, and making great-grandpa laugh.


Michael Arthur Lang | d. December 7, 2009

Frank Rusk Scott “Scotty | d. December 7, 2009

Frank Rusk Scott “Scotty” of Independence, Missouri went home to his heavenly Father on Dec. 7th, 2009. He was born on Aug. 26th, 1920 in Leavenworth County, Kansas to Frank Spencer Scott and Jessie Marie Rusk Scott. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, receiving an honorable discharge. He then worked on a riverboat, as a baker, and as an ironworker. On Dec. 18th, 1957, he married Betty “Norine” Scott. They remained married until her death in 2003. He was a member of the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Jessie Scott; brothers, Bruce Scott and Lee Scott; and wife of 47 years, Betty Norine Scott.

He leaves behind one sister, Jewel “Pete” Little of Fort Mohave, Arizona; two nephews, Frank Countryman and wife, Cathy of Fort Mohave, AZ, and Jonnie Miller and wife, Darlene of Woodlands, Texas; two nieces, Rena Duvall and husband, Dennis of Spring, Texas and Janice Klos of Kansas City, Missouri. He also leaves one sister-in-law, Viola Miller of Spring, Texas, and three great-nephews, Frank Edward Countryman, Bryan Duvall, and Christopher Duvall. He leaves a special person Lucille Willoughby and an extra family that loved him very much, Ken and Glenna Dooley and daughters, Rebekah, Kristin, and Erika. He also leaves behind many cousins, great nephews and nieces, and friends. Scotty also left behind a cat that adopted him, and his beloved dog, Schotzie, who was his constant friend and companion in his later years.

In lieu of flowers, Scotty requested donations to “No More Homeless Pets”. These may be left at the funeral home.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs. Immediately after the service, there will be a short cemetery service where military honors will be performed.


James Lewis Baker “Butch” | d. December 5, 2009

James Lewis Baker “Butch”, 61, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on December 5, 2009. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, December 11, 2009 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with Dr. Jerry Craig officiating. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Special Ed Dept at First Baptist Church of Blue Springs or to IBS Industries.

Butch was born on November 21, 1948 in Santa Monica, CA, the son of James O. and Mary Louise (Bower) Baker. He attended State School 6. Butch loved his job working at IBS Industries. He retired in April 2009 after 40 years. Butch loved to go bowling, swimming, play basketball, and especially enjoyed participating in the Special Olympics. He had been a member of First Baptist Church of Blue Springs for over 20 years and cherished all the friends he had made. Butch was a true blessing from God in every way.

He was preceded in death by his father in 2001, brother, Terry Lee Baker in 1954.

Butch is survived by his mother, Mary Louise Baker of Blue Springs, MO; aunts and uncles, Virginia & Ray Thompson of Williamsport, PA, Doris & Dick Kissinger of Palm Bay, FL, Stephanie Bower of Silver Springs, MD, Bonnie Meyer of Topeka, KS, Ross Baker of Ottawa, KS and many cousins.
