Lorraine Alice Blixrud | d. September 26, 2008

Lorraine Alice Blixrud, 84, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 26, 2008 at Wilshire at Lakewood Nursing Center. Visitation will be held from 6-7 pm on Monday, September 29, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services at 7:00 pm. Private graveside services will take place at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Lorraine may be made to Kansas City Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.

Lorraine was born on October 21, 1923 in Duluth, MN to Clarence and Pauline (Nordeen) Nygaard. On April 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Paul Blixrud, Sr. She was a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Independence, MO. Lorraine enjoyed making crafts and sewing, and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Gladys Mackey.

Nora Faye Foster | d. September 22, 2008

Nora Faye Foster, 83, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 22, 2008 at Shangri-La Nursing and Rehab Center. Private family services will be at a later date. Mrs. Foster will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Nora was born on August 8, 1925 in Hillenman, AR to Isaac and Ethel (Pate) Cline. She was a homemaker and Baptist by faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Charley Young, second husband, Joe Foster, three brothers, and two sisters.

Charles Clarence Hoffman | d. September 22, 2008

Charles Hoffman, 67, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on September 22, 2008 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 am on Friday, September 26, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at 12:00 noon with full military honors at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made in honor of Charles to the Disabled American Veterans.

Charles was born on July 24, 1941 in Woodland, CA. He served his country for ten years in the service with three years in combat as a Military Advisor during the Vietnam War and received two purple hearts for his courageous efforts. After he was released from the service, he became the Shipping Foreman at Treasure Chest Advertising Company in Sacramento, CA where he met his wife, Judy. They were united in marriage on January 26, 1990, and enjoyed many years together, and countless trips to Lake Comanche where they would fish and camp out.

Charles was a member of the American Legion Post #499 and was active in their Honor Guard, and was a lifetime member of the Disabled Americans Veterans. Charles loved life and spent all the time he could learning about space and history. He will be deeply missed by his family, American Legion friends, and anyone who met him. The pride and joy of Charles’s life was his two granddaughters.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Delores Maldenado; and first wife, Donna Hoffman.

He is survived by his:

Ernestine (Ernie) Cooper | d. September 21, 2008

Ernie, age 70 passed away on Sunday, 21 September 2008 at her Blue Springs home, surrounded by her family. She was born August 11, 1938 in Versailles , MO. Her parents were Jack and Leta Inman of Blue Springs , MO. She graduated from Southeast High School in KC MO. In 1955, she married Jerry Cooper, the love of her life and the father of her two children. They owned and operated a resort at Lake of the Ozarks until he passed away in 1964. Ernie loved to travel, having visited all 48 contiguous states and Alaska . She also visited many foreign countries including the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Russia . She loved tending her flowers, watching the backyard birds, sewing (she made her wedding gown and those of her attendants), cooking (co-authoring a cook-book with her daughter). She was an adventureous soul, white water rafting the Colorado River and buffalo hunting with a black-powder rifle. She loved reading and was an avid Chiefs fan, and a dog lover. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blue Springs for over forty years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Leta Inman, her first husband Jerry Cooper and her second husband Paul Connor.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing and to celebrate her life, son Randy Cooper and wife Eileen, Blue Springs, daughter Renee Tonning and husband Tracy, Iowa City, IA, sister Sharon Bumgarner and husband Richard Laurie, MO, five grandchildren, Steve and Halley Cooper, Britney, Kelsey and Cooper Tonning, one great grandchild, Haiden Cooper and her little poodle Miss Dixie Belle.
She also leaves her life partner, Eddie Miller of Blue Springs , MO , his three children, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs on Tuesday, 23 September 2008 from 5:00-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 24 2008 at the funeral home. Burial at Versailles Cemetery


Sang Yi | d. September 19, 2008

Sang Yi, 45, passed away at his home September 19, 2008.  Visitation will he held from 5-7 pm Wednesday September 24, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main Blue Springs, MO 64015 816-229-3276. Graveside funeral service will be 10 am Thursday September 25, 2008 at Lobb Cemetery in Independence, MO.

Sang was born February 3, 1963 in Seoul, Korea to Song and Su (Kim) Yi. He was a mapping technician for KCP&L since 1989.  He was a Christian by faith.  He was preceded in death by his father.

Kathleen Kay Harris | d. September 17, 2008

Kathleen Kay Harris, 61, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on September 17, 2008 following a brief illness. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, September 19, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Harris will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be sent to Worldwide Work of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Kathleen was born on August 17, 1947 in Sioux City, IA to Frank and Hattie (Simmons) Bush. She graduated from South Heelan High School in Sioux City, IA. Kathleen was a member of the Blue Springs Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Harry William Schwaninger | d. September 17, 2008

Harry William Schwaninger, 85, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on September 17, 2008. Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 22, 2008 at 10:30 am at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, MO.

Harry was born on January 16, 1923 in St. Louis, Missouri to Frank and Antoinette (Neimeyer) Schwaninger. He served his country as a tailgunner in World War II from 1943-1945 in the Pacific as a Marine. After his service, he became an employee of Ely & Walker. He retired in 1980 from Mallinckrodt Chemical Company as a Chemical Operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern (Pick) Schwaninger, parents, and eleven brothers and sisters.

Julia Mae Botts Bland | d. September 13, 2008

Julia Mae Botts Bland, “Boogie”, lifetime resident of Blue Springs, Missouri and past Fall Fun Fest Queen passed away on September 13, 2008 at her home surrounded by her family and loving caregiver, Carol Oliver. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, September 18, 2008 also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Springs Christian Church or to the Blue Springs Historical Society.

Julia was born on April 27, 1919 in Blue Springs, Missouri to Thomas E. “Mose” and Lelah (Shrout) Botts. She graduated from Blue Springs High School and went on to attend Business School for two years. Over the years, she worked at Lake City Ammunition Plant, was a secretary for Safeway, and retired from the R-4 School District in 1984 after serving many years as secretary to the Superintendent and School Board. Julia was a charter member of the Retired Educators Association, Blue Springs Historical Society and the Blue Springs Pilot Club, where she was a past president. She was also a member of the American Legion Post #499 Auxiliary and Blue Springs Christian Church. Julia loved to decorate and spend time in the garden. She was united in marriage later in life to Lloyd Lester Bland, who preceded her in death in 2005. Included in this union were his children, David & Joan Bland of Independence, Missouri and Dorothy & Dean Falconer of Independence, Missouri and grandson, Dana Falconer of Colorado.
She is also survived by her nieces: Dr. Pam Botts of Lawrence, KS

Daniel Allen Edmisson | d. September 7, 2008

Daniel Allen Edmisson, 56, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on September 7, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Mr. Edmisson will be cremated under the direction of Meyers Funeral Chapel. Private family services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Daniel may be made to the American Diabetes Association.


Mrs. Eltizia Washington | d. September 6, 2008

Mrs. Eltizia Washington, 66, Blue Springs, MO went home to meet her maker on September 6, 2008. She was born May 28, 1942 in Damascus, Arkansas to Warren and Laverne Flood Ealy. She attended the Sumner High School in Kansas City, Kansas. Mrs. Washington was employed by the United States Government with the Department of Agriculture for fifteen years. She worked in the Personnel Department where she retired in 2000.

She was a member of Grace Unlimited Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Springs. A devout Christian, Mrs. Washington was most proud of her relationship with God. This was evident in her daily life. She was always thinking of others and ways to help make the world a better place. For the past 35 years, she donated monetarily to “Feed the Children” where she helped to feed 1,137 people in Africa over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.

She was united in marriage with Clarence Washington on December 21, 1966 in Kansas City, Kansas. Mr. Washington passed away in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Laverne Ealy.

She is survived by her father Warren Ealy, Little Rock, Arkansas; 1 daughter, Kim Smith and husband Steve, Triangle, Virginia; 2 sons, Wayne Ealy, Little Rock, Arkansas and Clarence Washington and wife Rhonda, Wilson, North Carolina; 2 brothers, Oscar Murphy, Kansas City, Kansas and Jack Murphy, Cleveland, Ohio; 2 sisters, Margie McCrae, Cleveland, Ohio and Beverly Adair, Kansas City, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2008 at the Grace Unlimited Missionary Baptist Church in Blue Springs with Elder A.L. Johnson, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the church. The committal service will follow at 2:30p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Washington are suggested to “Feed the Children” and may be left in care of the funeral home.


John Paul “J.P.” Jarski | d. September 4, 2008

John Paul “J.P.” Jarski passed away September 4, 2008 at his home. Celebration of life service will be held Sunday September 14, 2008 at 11 am at Shelter House #10 at Lake Jacomo.

J.P. was born February 25, 1952 in Lackawanna, New York to John and Genevieve (Sluski) Jarski. He was a mechanical engineer and had worked in building maintenance at the Jackson County Courthouse.

He was a Catholic by faith.

Chris Case | d. September 2, 2008

Chris Case, 38, Grain Valley, MO passed away unexpectedly Monday, September 2, 2008. He was born August 6, 1970 in Independence, MO to Leslie Alan and Sandra Marie Thomas Case. They survive in Lee’s Summit, MO. Chris was a graduate of Lee’s Summit High School and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. Chris was a carpenter by trade. He spent the majority of his working years in new home construction and remodeling. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He married Dionne Michelle Minzes on February 18, 1995. They were blessed to have had three beautiful children, Tayler Mackenzie Case, Christopher Brenon Case and Allie Elizabeth Case. They survive of the home. In addition to his parents, wife and children, he is survived by two brothers, Cary Michael Case and wife Jennifer of Grain Valley and Colby Andrew Case of Lee’s Summit, MO. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary Louise Case of Independence, MO and maternal grandmother, Maxine Thomas of Independence, MO.

Funeral services will be conducted 5:00p.m. Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the East Side Baptist Church, 19901 East 78 Highway, Independence, MO with Rev. Don Claphan officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:00p.m. until service time at the church. Graveside services and burial will be 11:00a.m. Monday, September 8, 2008 at Valley Memorial Gardens in Grain Valley, MO. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Chris Case Memorial Fund % First Financial Bank, 831 NE Woods Chapel Rd. Lee’s Summit, MO 64064 to be established for the Children’s Education Fund.


James (Jay) E. Dryer, III | d. August 31, 2008

James (Jay) E. Dryer, III, son of James E. Dryer, II and Melinda Ross, passed away on August 31, 2008. He is survived by his grandmother, Ruby L. Dryer, sister, Shauna Looney, half-brother, Nicolas Dryer, a niece and nephew, 4 aunts, 1 uncle, and several cousins. Jay was a volunteer firefighter and a very giving person. He will be missed by all. Memorial services will be held at Meyers Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10:00 am.


Ralph W. Keibler | d. September 1, 2008

Ralph W. Keibler age 72 of Independence, MO passed away on Sept. 1, 2008 at St. Mary’s Manor in Blue Springs, MO. Ralph was born April 11, 1936 near Bennettsville, IN and graduated from Silver Creek High School in Sellersburg, IN. After two years of college, he served four years in the United States Navy. He worked for the Associated Press for forty-two years as a Technical Communications Manager until his retirement in 2001. Following his retirement he became Webmaster for internet websites for his family genealogy, high school alumni, AP retirees, and local residential community. Survivors include his wife Ellie; son Benjamin (Angela) and grandson Craig Keibler of Floyd’s Knobs, IN; sister Emma (Cliff) Little of Salem, IN; brothers Joe Keibler of Clarksville, IN and Roy (Liz) Keibler of Pekin, IN; three step-children BriAnne (Donnie) Blaine of Harrisonville, MO; Ronald (Juliette) Wheeler of Coronado, CA; Elaine LeValley of Independence, MO; nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs, MO. Visitation will also be held at Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Hwy. 331, Sellersburg, IN, from 10-12noon on Saturday, September 6, 2008 with private burial to follow.
