Sidney B. Yeagle | d. October 26, 2008

Sidney B. “Jack” Yeagle, 82, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on October 26, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at Blue Springs Cemetery in Blue Springs, Missouri at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2008.

Sidney was born on April 9, 1926 in Marshall, Missouri to Francis and Nannie (Woodsmall) Yeagle. After high school, he entered the Merchant Marines and also served his country in the Army. He was united in marriage on July 2, 1949 to Dorothy L. (Hillebrenner). Sidney worked as a master mechanic for many years at Lake City Ammunition Plant. He also worked part time many years as a mechanic for Blue Springs Marine. Sidney enjoyed boating, fishing with his friends, and tending his garden to keep all his friends and neighbors in fresh tomatoes. Sidney took great pride in raising his grandsons, Chris and Shane. He was Presbyterian by faith and was a member of the ARARAT Shrine, Scottish Rite Temple, and Masonic Lodge # 337.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, F. M. Yeagle, William Yeagle, and sister, Susan Mae Crank.

Ida L. Hall | d. October 22, 2008

Ida L. Hall, 101, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, formerly of Sedalia, Missouri, passed away on October 22, 2008 at John Knox Village. Funeral services and Eastern Star services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel in Blue Springs, MO at 10:00 am. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm on Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Sedalia or to the Order of the Eastern Star of Missouri.

Ida was born on January 14, 1907 in Benton County, Missouri to Franklin Fete and Josephine Cinderella (Crabtree) Kirby. She grew up in Sedalia, Missouri, where she attended high school and the Sedalia Business College. On March 21, 1925, she was united in marriage to Herman Hall, who preceded her in death in 1969. For many years, she was a landlord for many rental properties in the Sedalia area and also owned and operated an antique and furniture store. Ida was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Sedalia where she was very active in Sunday School and the Mission Union and member of the Warrensburg Chapter #3 Order of the Eastern Star.

Ida was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and five sisters.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews

Doris Norene Talcott Gabriel | d. October 20, 2008

Doris Norene Gabriel, age 91, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008 at her daughter’s home in Joplin where she resided. Doris was born June 15, 1917 in Dow City, Iowa to Van and Maymie Talcott. She had three brothers and one sister. Two brothers, Victor and Harold Talcott preceeded her in death. Surviving is one brother, Ronald Talcott, and one sister, Pauline Talcott Jennings. Doris graduated from Chadwick High school and earned an Associate of Arts degree from Trenton Jr. College.

She married Raymond Gerald Gabriel in Kennett, Missouri July 3, 1938. They were married 58 years before “Gerald” passed away in 1996. They were the loving parents of three children who all survive --two sons, Raymond Gerald Gabriel, Jr. and his wife Pam, and Dennis Grant Gabriel and his wife Toni both of Blue Springs, MO, and one daughter, Cherie Norene Gabriel Paige and her husband Roger of Joplin, MO. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and many friends as well as former students from her years of service as housemother for the Liahona House at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Mrs. Gabriel had a very strong work ethic and worked at many tasks throughout her life. She was a tailor while her husband was in the Navy during World War II; she and her husband owned and operated a nursing home in Springfield, MO during the 1950’s; and they owned and operated a poultry and egg farm in Grain Valley, MO in the late 50’s and early 60’s. She and Gerald were houseparents for the Liahona House in Columbia, Missouri. In her later years she devoted much time to gardening, as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was a member of the Restoration Branch of Carthage, MO and at times attended the Oak Grove Restoration congregation. She was dedicated to her church and worked many hours translating the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew languages into English.

Visitation will be held at the Meyers Funeral Chapel at 1600 West Main Street in Blue Springs, Missouri at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25 with a Celebration Service following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Doris Gabriel may be made to the St. John’s Hospice program at 2727 McClelland Boulevard in Joplin, MO 64801.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends and all who knew her loving spirit.


Hattie Fern Keele | d. October 13, 2008

Fern Keele, 78, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on October 13, 2008. Visitation will be held from 10-11 am, Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be held at 1:00 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.

Fern was born on March 14, 1930 in Richards, Missouri to Jefferson T. and Lennie Anne (Hensley) Woodring. She was united in marriage to Earl J. Keele on December 22, 1950 and had enjoyed 57 years with him. Fern worked in Downtown Kansas City for First National and Commerce Banks as a Clerk and Teller. She was a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church and a past member of the Eastern Star.

Fern was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one sister, and a grandson, Tyler Keele.

Richard “Dickie” Henry Davis, Jr. | d. October 12, 2008

Dickie Davis, Jr., 52, of Climax Springs, MO passed away on October 12, 2008 at Lake Regional Health System in Camdenton, MO. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, October 16, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery at 10:00 am on Friday, October 17, 2008 where Mr. Davis will be given full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made care of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Dickie was born on September 12, 1956 in Kansas City, Missouri to Richard H. and Betty Lou Davis. He graduated from Truman High School in 1974 and entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1975 and was honorably discharged in 1977. During this time, he served his country as a 0311 LPCL E-3. After his service, he was employed by Honeywell in Kansas City, MO. Dickie loved hunting and fishing and had enjoyed being a Boy Scout in his younger days—but he loved his girls most of all. He would never miss one of their softball games and always encouraged them to do their very best. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Sammy Lee Watson | d. October 10, 2008

Sammy Lee Watson, 61, Blue Springs, MO passed away on October 10, 2008 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Monday, October 13, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. Memorial contributions in honor of Sammy may be made to the Roller Party at Watsons Rolladium.

Sammy was born October 11, 1946 in Sedalia, MO to Sam and Venita (Phillips) Watson. He served in the Air Force and the Air Police. He guarded Presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan during his service.

He was the Pettis County Sheriff #607 for many years; a member of the Windsor Police Department; and was on the Pettis County Ambulance Service. He owned and operated the Watsons Rolladium in Blue Springs for 17 years. Sammy had been involved with roller skating all of his life and loved to give kids a fun and safe environment to play. He also umpired little league baseball in Sedalia, MO. He loved camping and spending time outdoors with his wife and children. He was a Baptist by faith and previously attended Plaza Heights Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Odd Fellows and the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his second mother Fern Watson, and his grandparents Oscar & Nora (Fleming) Watson.

Opal P. Crowder | d. October 10, 2008

Opal P. Crowder, 83, Holden, MO (formerly of Blue Springs, MO and Roscoe, MO) passed away October 10, 2008 at Lee’s Summit Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be Tuesday October 14, 2008 from 5-7 pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Service will be held Wednesday morning at 9 am at the chapel with burial following at 11 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO.

Memorial Contributions are requested to the Alzheimer Association.

Opal was born October 6, 1925 in Roscoe, MO to John and Grace (Turley) Keeton. She was married to James H. Crowder on September 27, 1945. She was a Christian by faith. She was a member of the Eastern Star. She loved Bingo and her rose garden. But most of all she loved spoiling her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Lee Fishburn; and brother George Keeton

Eunice Rowene Lemen Choplin | d. October 8, 2008

Eunice Rowene Lemen Choplin, 79, of Oak Grove, Missouri peacefully passed into the presence of her Savior on October 8, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, October 10, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 11, 2008 also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.

Eunice was born December 11, 1928 in Shackelford, Missouri to Charlie and Maude (Jones)Lemen. She married James Choplin February 14, 1949. She was a member of New Liberty Baptist Church and taught elementary age Sunday School for several years, where she was affectionately known as MeMe by her students. Eunice was a gifted seamstress, which was evident in the many quilts she sewed through the years. Her passion for quilting began at the age of 8 when she sewed her 1st quilt.

Eunice was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Maude Lemen, four brothers, Charles Lemen, Carl Dean Lemen, Roy Lemen, and Maurice Lemen, and one sister, Viola White.

Eunice is survived by her husband of 59 years and five children. Three sons, James E. Choplin of Blue Springs, MO, Timothy Choplin of Kansas City, MO, Mark Choplin of Oak Grove, MO, two daughters, Barbara Hansburg of Oak Grove, MO, and Lola Choplin of Oak Grove, MO. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Dorothy Scarborough of Blue Springs, MO and Lola Ehlers of Eldorado Springs, MO and her two adoring Yorkies, Mikey and Romeo.


Verona Ellen Smith | d. October 5, 2008

Verona Ellen Smith passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the Timberlake Care Center in Kansas City, MO. She was 89. Verona was born to Leonidus Carter Sampel and Dora Bell Webber Sampel on March 9, 1919 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She married Arthur Leroy Smith in November 1942. The couple had three children.

Verona was a longtime resident of Kansas City, Kansas. She was an avid artist, creating painted portraits, landscapes, and still life scenes as well as ceramics. Her art was displayed and sold at shows throughout the Kansas City area. She won several awards for her work. She was a member of the Wyandotte County Art Association. She also loved to shop garage sales. Verona was an enthusiastic ambassador for Christ who was witnessing up to the time of her death.

She is survived by her three children: Ellen Ward, Topeka, KS; Tom Smith (Rebecca), Blue Springs, MO; and Betty Ekey (Bill), Odessa, MO; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, October 8 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 Main Street, Blue Springs, MO 64015 (816) 229-3276. Loretta M. (Pugh) Clark | d. October 5, 2008

Loretta M. (Pugh) Clark, 89, of Sweet Springs Villa, formerly of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on October 5, 2008. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services to follow. Interment will be held at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Preferred Hospice (1900 N Providence Rd Columbia, MO 65202).

Mrs. Clark was born on July 28, 1919 to William and Stella (Packham) Jackson in St. Joseph, Missouri. She attended school in Kansas City, Missouri. On December 8, 1941, Loretta (Margaret) married Denver Pugh, who preceded her in death in 1969. In November 1972, Loretta married Roy William Clark, who also preceded her in death in 1999.

Loretta was a devoted and faithful Christian, wife, and mother. She was a full time homemaker all her adult life. She faithfully attended the Grace Pentecostal Church in Blue Springs for many years, and later with her husband, Roy, the Plaza Heights Baptist Church in Blue Springs.

Donald Holman | d. October 5, 2008

Donald Holman, 76, of Independence, Missouri passed away on October 5, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 9, 2008 at Old Salem Cemetery in Independence, Missouri. Donald was born on July 5, 1932 in Levasy, Missouri to Clifford and Nellie (Ashurst) Holman. He attended Palmer High School in Independence, Missouri and graduated from Findley Engineering School in Kansas City, Missouri. Donald served his country in the Army from 1952-1954 as a Corporal Artillery Surveyor. He was united in marriage to Sadie Marie Blankenship on April 13, 1953. He worked for many years as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing and retired as an electrical engineer from Kansas City Power & Light in 1989. He was a member of Blue Springs Ararat Shriners and Blue Springs Masonic Lodge #337. Donald was a true handy-man and genuinely enjoyed working on cars and fixed anything he could get his hands on. He loved helping other people and would always be there to lend a hand when you needed him. Donald will be missed by all his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Holman; and sister, Virginia Middaugh.

Imogene Booth | d. October 3, 2008

Imogene Booth, 77, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on October 3, 2008 at St. Mary’s Manor. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Monday, October 6, 2008 at the church. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions in honor of Imogene may be made to First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.

Imogene was born on October 1, 1931 in Van Horn, Missouri to George and Amanda (Miller) Carter. She graduated from Bogard High School and retired as Manager of Quality Control for the Social Security Administration. Imogene loved volunteering her time at St. Mary’s Hospital on the second floor and at the church taking care of the babies. She was a very fun-loving and enjoyed traveling with her husband. Imogene was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother and was cherished by her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-son, Charles (Bobbie) Booth.

Harold Cartwright, Sr | d. October 1, 2008

Harold Cartwright, Sr. , 75, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on October 1, 2008. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:30 am on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services at 11:30 am. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Harold was born on October 21, 1932 in Hoopeston, Illinois to Frank and Goldie (Griffin) Cartwright. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane (Carroll) on September 2, 1951. Harold worked many years for the Union Pacific Railroad and was the Assistant Manager of Labor Relations. He was a member of TCU and Timothy Lutheran Church. Harold enjoyed playing golf with his friends, and was a very loving and light-hearted man who loved joking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a hard worker and used his handy-man skills to help as many people as he could. He will be genuinely missed.

Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; daughter, Jennifer Wilbanks; mother, father, step-father, brother, and a sister.
