Trent Matthew Vickers | d. May 28, 2008

Trent Matthew Vickers, 33, of Independence, Missouri passed away on May 28, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 10 am – 12 noon on Monday, June 2, 2008 at First Christian Church of Blue Springs with funeral services to follow at noon. Trent will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, MO following funeral services. Trent’s family has asked that Memorial contributions be made to the National Chrone’s and Colitis Foundation ( 1034 S, Brentwood Ste. 120, St. Louis, MO. 63117)

Trent was born August 4, 1974 in Laconia NH to Larry and Gayle (Cramer) Vickers. He graduated from Blue Springs High in 1993. Trent spent most of his adult life working for Kenny’s Tile & Floor Covering. While there he earned the distinction of being certified as a National Hardwood Flooring Inspector by the National Hardwood Flooring Institute, an accomplishment Trent was very proud of. Most recently he worked for The Hardwood Guy as a sales estimator.

Trent was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs and was also attending First Family Church of Overland Park, Ks.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents and his paternal grandfather.

Trent leaves behind his mother & father, Larry & Gayle Vickers as well as his brother Chadd Vickers all of Independence, Mo; his loving wife Lori and three sons Kaden, Reese and Logan. Trent also leaves his paternal grandmother, Ima Vickers also of Independence as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.


James “Jim” Edward Pierce | d. May 26, 2008

Jim Pierce, 79, of Independence, Missouri passed away on May 26, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Crossroads Church of Kansas City (7917 Main Street Kansas City, MO 64114). Inurnment will follow at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Jim was born on May 24, 1929 to Lyle W. and Ruth (Zwahlen) Pierce and grew up in Appleton City, MO. He was united in marriage to Eunice Lewellen on June 14, 1950. Jim served in the Army in Korea with the 24th Infantry. He worked for 31 years in the mechanical department at Armco Steel. He volunteered with his wife, Eunice, for 20 years with Habitat for Humanity in the Bronx, NY, Boston, MA, Baltimore, MD, and Central Seminary in Kansas City, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Pierce-Smith, father, Lyle Pierce, and step-father, Vince Smith.

Casen Antonyshyn | d. May 25, 2008

Casen Antonyshyn, child of Volodymyr and Michelle R. (Wiseman) Antonyshyn, passed away on May 25, 2008. He is survived by his siblings, Aidan, Calista, Caelan, and Liam Antonyshyn of the home; and grandparents, Ron & Jeanette Wiseman of Wiseman, AR and Valya Antonyshyn of Rivne, Ukraine.


Susan Jean Cromley | d. May 25, 2008

Susie Cromley passed away at her home Sunday May 25. She was a life-long area resident and a graduate of Blue Springs South Class of 1998, where she was active in forensics, debate, literary magazine, and yearbook. She is survived by her parents Pam and Ken Cromley of Grain Valley, brother Jake Cromley of Lee’s Summit, and sister Maggie Cromley of Overland Park, KS. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Pat and Hellen Cromley and her maternal grandparents Clarence and June Watson, all of Blue Springs. Her passing will leave a hole in the hearts of her family and friends. Visitation will be held from 10 am – noon on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with a memorial service at 12:00 noon.


Randall V. Booth | d. May 25, 2008

Randall V. Booth, 51, of Oak Grove, MO passed away on May 25, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Randall was born on July 9, 1956 to Lloyd and Mary Ruth (Lofton) Booth, who both precede him in death. He was a loving father and grandfather.

Gilbert L. Wright | d. May 24, 2008

Gil Wright, 60, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on May 24, 2008.

Gil was born on October 5, 1947 in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1957 he went to live at the Drumm Farm Institute for boys in Independence. In 1965 he joined the Marine Corps and served his country for two years.

He was the past owner of Wright & Sons Fence Co. and Main Street Video in Blue Springs. He was also employed at the Lake City Ammunition Plant for the last several years. His survivors include two sons, Eric (Sheila) Wright of Grain Valley, and Christian (Courtney) Wright of Independence; one daughter, Lisa (Tim) Banner of Blue Springs; grandson, Dusty Banner of Blue Springs; step-grandson, Spencer Hill of Grain Valley. The family would like to thank Western Missouri Medical Center and Ridge Crest Nursing Center for all their care and support.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel with graveside services following at Lobb Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Drumm Farm (3210 Lee’s Summit Road Independence, MO 64055).


George “Bob” Robert Hale | d. May 23, 2008

Bob Hale, 78, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on May 23, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be at 12:00 noon, Friday, May 30, 2008 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Bob was born on August 14, 1929 in North Carolina. He served his country in the Army from 1948-1952. In the early 1970’s, he moved to Kansas City. He was united in marriage to Beatrice Garcia on September 14, 1970 in Kansas City.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Gilbert Jr. and Joseph.

Bob is survived by his:
Wife of 38 years, Beatrice of the home

Gene Ramer Boyce | d. May 21, 2008

Our beloved Husband, Dad, and Papa left us on May 21, 2008, after a very brief, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be on Friday, May 23, 2008 at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice.

Gene was born June 15, 1948 in Kansas City, MO to Edwin & Polly Boyce, who, along with his sister, Jane, preceded him in death. Gene’s brother Jon, and Jon’s daughters, Cassidy & Ashley reside in Oceanside, CA. Gene was a proud Marine Veteran and has worked for the Department of Defense for over 24 years. Music came very naturally to Gene, and he shared this gift with many people over the years.

Gene is survived by his wife & best friend, Diana of the home. He also leaves his sons, Chris of Blue Springs, and Jeff of Raytown, and daughters, Brianne of Overland Park, and Samantha & husband, Brandon of Blue Springs. He leaves two beautiful little granddaughters, Sarah & Emilee, and his little grandson, Peyton, the “Professor”.

Gene exemplified kindness, dignity, love, and courage. He was very proud of his kids and the wonderful adults he helped them become.


Martin Edward Wintz | d. May 18, 2008

Marty Wintz, 52, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on May 18, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be held from 11:30 am – 1 pm on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Elks Lodge #2509 with funeral services held at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elks Lodge #2509.

Marty was born on February 13, 1956 in Kansas City, Kansas to Victor Wintz & Harriet Coates. He graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1976. Marty was a passionate and active member of the Benevolent & Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #2509 in Blue Springs, MO. He was a true loving and giving life long friend to all he met. Marty will be remembered as the man with a quick wit, positive attitude, and steadfast love of life, he remains our hero and true inspiration. He will never be forgotten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Cathy Gillen.

Marty is survived by his sisters, Beth, Vickie, Bridget, and Cassie; brother-in-laws, Brett and Jim; and nephews, Dusty, Nate, and Zack


Deanna Jo (Whitfield) Frey | d. May 17, 2008

Deanna Jo (Whitfield) Frey, age 63 of Blue Springs, MO, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2008, surrounded by her family. She was at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She had struggled with renal failure and cancer for the past 15 years.

Deanna was born in Trenton, MO on February 5, 1945 to Joe and Anna Mae Whitfield. She attended Trenton schools.

Deanna was preceded in death by her father, Joseph William Whitfield and mother, Anna Mae Whitfield Shelton. Deanna is survived by her sister, Joyce Barron and husband Larry of Blue Springs, MO, one son, William Frey and wife Sherri of Leopold, OK, three daughters, Denise James and husband Tom of Chillicothe, MO, Natalie Lemieux and husband Steve of Camby, Indiana, and Amanda Villegas of Kansas City, MO. She had 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There will be a memorial service held on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at 7pm at the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.

Faye Elizabeth Freer | d. May 16, 2008

Faye Freer, 94, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on May 16, 2008 surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at First Christian Church of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be at First Christian Church of Blue Springs at 9:30 am on Wednesday, May 21, 2008. Interment will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church of Blue Springs (701 NW 15th Street Blue Springs, MO 64015).

Faye was born on April 30, 1914 in Fair Play, Missouri to William and Jessie (Cunningham) Coy. In 1931, she graduated from Fair Play High School and went on to attend Southwest Missouri State Teachers College from 1931-1933. She taught in various schools in Missouri including Blue Springs and Raytown, retiring in 1976. She was united in marriage to Bill Freer on February 14, 1947. She became owner/manager of Webb-Freer Funeral Home in 1977, after Bill passed away, until 1993. She was a member of First Christian Church, Live Oak Rebekah Lodge #341, American Legion Auxiliary Post #499, Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #428, Missouri Retired Teachers Association, Blue Springs Historical Society, American Business Women’s Association, and the Missouri Funeral Directors Association. Faye spent her last years taking care of her family and will truly be missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Edgar, Arthur, and Elmer.

Grandchildren: Kellie & husband, Stephen Box, Samantha White, Jill White, Jessie White, and Randy White
Faye was about to be blessed with her first great-grandchild.


Georgeanne Smith | d. May 15, 2008

Georgeanne Smith, 68, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on May 15, 2008. Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30am on Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with a memorial service at 10:30am. Inurnment will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery at 12:30pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice (4041 South Lynn Ct. Drive Ste 300 Independence, MO 64055).

Georgeanne was born on May 15, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA to George Nelson and Anna (Eggert) Smith, who preceded her in death. She graduated from Penn High School in 1958. From 1964-1967, she served her country in the Army during the Vietnam War. In 1991, she was called from the Air Force Reserves to serve once again during Desert Storm. She had most recently been employed as a secretary for Bendix and the VA Hospital. Georgeanne loved to spend time with her friends, whether they were playing bingo or just chatting.

She is survived by her:

Judith W. Hatfield | d. May 13, 2008

On May 13, 2008, Judith Ann Wolf Hatfield of Lake Tapawingo, MO passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends. Judy was 75 years old. Memorial services will be held Friday, May 16th at 11:30 AM. at the Silent Unity Visitors Chapel, Unity Village, MO. Visitation will precede the service at 10:00 AM.

Judy was born May 2, 1933 in Dayton, Ohio. She was the middle child of Cable Wolf and Marion Breen Wolf.

She attended Blue Springs High School and the University of Missouri where she received a dual degree in Home Economics and Marketing. She received a Masters degree in Education from Central Missouri State University.

She married Robert Hatfield in 1956 and shared a very rewarding happy life for 48 years. A son, Mark Robert, and daughter, Hollis Marion, completed their family.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, sister Nancy, and husband Robert who passed in 2004. Her survivors include a son, Mark Hatfield and his wife, Nancy, Grain Valley; a daughter, Hollis Weishar and her husband, Greg, Louisville, KY, and her “much loved” grandchildren, Michael Hatfield, Alison Hatfield, James Weishar, and Robert Weishar. Her brother Tom Wolf, his wife Barbara, and nieces Stephanie Wolf and Stacy Rudd, and great nieces Lauren, Kathryn, and Camryn Rudd also survive.

Judy was an elementary school teacher in the Blue Springs School District for 28 years before retiring in 1994. She showed integrity and a sense of humor and many positive values. She enjoyed cooking, card designing, and her daily walks with her dog, Abby. She was an active member of the Lake Tapawingo Women’s Club, and after her retirement volunteered for 12 years in the Blue Springs School District. She also was a long time volunteer for the Blue Springs Community Service League, a member of the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri, the Blue Springs Retired Education Association, and a member of Unity Village Chapel in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Memorial contributions can be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital for Cancer Research, 2401 Gilham Road, Kansas City, MO 64108, the Community Services League of Blue Springs, 200 SW 10th St., Blue Springs, MO 64015, and Powell Gardens, 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO 64061.

Judy was a trustworthy and caring friend who tried to live by the words of Mother Teresa:
“We do not have to do great things, only small things with great love.”


Gloria J. Stout | d. May 10, 2008

Gloria Jean (Gunn) Stout, 56, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Gloria was born January 24, 1952 in Fort Madison, IA to Donald and Marjorie (Bishop) Gunn. She graduated from Fort Madison High School in 1970. On August 28, 1970, she married Ronald Lee Stout in Fort Madison, IA. They raised three children, Gina, Eric, and Adam. During their married life, they lived in several cities, spending the last 21 years in Blue Springs. In May 2005, she earned her Associate in Arts from the Metropolitan Community Colleges.

Gloria was a member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. She was an employee of Clinical Cardiovascular Associates.

She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.

Surviving are her husband of 37 years, Ron Stout, Blue Springs; one daughter, Gina and husband Dave Noga, Urbandale, IA; two sons, Eric and wife Christy Stout, Lee’s Summit, MO, and Adam Stout and Jessica Bushko, Overland Park, KS and Lee’s Summit, MO; 6 grandchildren whom she adored, Jason, Sarah, and Brian Noga, and Taylor, Jordan, and Lucas Stout; her mother, Marge Gunn, Oxnard, CA; two sisters, Gail Stout, Oxnard, CA, and Gwen Gunn, Mesa, AZ; one brother, Dave (Pete) Gunn and his wife, Melody, Fort Madison, IA; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd and Betty Stout, Fort Madison, IA, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 5:30-7:30 pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 15, 2008 at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church in Blue Springs. Interment will be at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the MS Society or Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church.


William Edward Galloway | d. May 1, 2008

Bill Galloway, 64, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on May 1, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5-7 on Monday, May 5, 2008 at St. Roberts Catholic Church with a funeral service at 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association.

Bill was born on October 6, 1943 in Carroll, Iowa to Alvin M. and Rose A. McGowan. He attended Kemper High School in Carroll and then graduated from Carroll High School in 1962. He was an employee of Associated Wholesale Grocers for 25 years, and retired from there in 1998. He had been a member of the Teamsters Union #655. Bill was also a member of St. Roberts Catholic Church for 22 years. He was united in marriage to Emily Schettler on February 4, 1967. During his younger years, he was always involved in his children’s activities, and even coached Jenny’s softball team for over 10 years. Bill loved to play golf, watch basketball, baseball, and root on his favorite football teams.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Alvin J. Galloway.
