Carl Crenshaw | d. March 29, 2008

Carl Crenshaw, 78, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on March 29, 2008. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 4, 2008 at 9:00 am at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #499 in Blue Springs, MO.

Carl was born on June 11, 1929 in Blue Springs, MO to Carl L. and Doris (Darnell) Crenshaw. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War and the Vietnam Era and retired CMSGT after 22 years of service. Carl was united in marriage to Sarah (Katie) Shepard on September 3, 1949. Carl was a member of the First Christian Church of Blue Springs and was an active member of the American Legion Post #499.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond (Tyke) Crenshaw.

Lt. Col. Willie B. Kennedy | d. March 27, 2008

The Patriarch of our family, Lt. Col.Willie B. Kennedy, 92, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on March 27, 2008 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Lt. Col. Kennedy was born on March 12, 1916 in Winnesboro, TX to W.D. and Ruby M. (Harrison) Kennedy. He grew up and graduated from high school in Frederick, OK. After high school, he entered the service and served our country in the Army during WWII setting up and supervising MASH units. After the war, he was employed by theVeterans Administration Hospital as a Hospital Administrator. On August 18, 1946, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Konovalski, who preceded him in death in 1999. Willie was a member of the American legion Post #499, NARFE, and had been a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church since 1963. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nature. He and his wife, Dorothy, even created a Wildlife Preserve on their homestead near Belleville, KS. Willie was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his wife, children; Thomas Doss Kennedy and Marilyn Joyce Neslie; and brothers, Doss Kennedy, A.D. Kennedy, Ray Kennedy, and Bennie Kennedy.

John "Jack" Joseph Cushing | d. March 23, 2008

John “Jack” Joseph Cushing, 77, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on March 23, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at Meyers Funeral Chapel at 1:30 pm, Thursday, March 27, 2008. Interment will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Jack was born on December 24, 1930 in Kansas City, Missouri to Patrick Bryne and Kathryn Marie (Sims) Cushing. He graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1948. Jack served our country in the Air Force from 1951-1952 as an Air Policeman. He was united in marriage to Gerarda “Carrie” Poulich on April 27, 1973 in Unity Village, MO. He was employed as the Assistant Chief of Environment Management Services at the VA Hospital for 25 years, retiring in 1994. Jack loved the Kansas City Chiefs and never missed a game. He was such a soft and gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor. His gentle ways and his “big teddy bear” personality will be missed. Jack was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.

Bonnie M. Miller | d. March 23, 2008

Bonnie M. Miller, age 79, of Carrollton, MO passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2008 in Carrollton, Missouri. Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 26, 2008, from 7:30-9:00 pm at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Carrollton, MO with a Rosary from 8:00-8:15 pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Mary’s Church at 10:00 am. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Carrollton, MO. Bonnie was born on April 14, 1928 in Carroll County, MO to Valentine and Mary (Regentz) Germann. She graduated from Carrollton High School in 1946 and was then united in marriage to Lawrence Edward Miller on May 12, 1948. Bonnie loved to play the organ, sew, and garden, but she especially loved to put on big dinners for her family and everyone else who stopped by. Bonnie was a member of St. Mary’s Altar Society and Prayer Group. She loved to volunteer her time doing community work. Bonnie was a very self-less person and put everyone else’s needs before herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, in 2004; granddaughter, Kimberly Miller, in 2005; and sister, Florence Germann.

Joseph Peter Charles Linck | d. March 19, 2008

Joseph Peter Charles Linck, 93, of Blue Springs, MO, went to be with our Heavenly Father on March 19, 2008. Visitation will be held from 11 am-Noon on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with a Celebration of Life service following. Private inurnment will be held at a later date at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Joe was born on October 16, 1914 to Theodore and Josephine (Becker) Linck in Leavenworth, Kansas. He served our country in the Navy from 1941-1947 during WWII and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On April 25, 1969, he was united in marriage to Norma “Merle” Colmer, and became her loving husband and father to her children. For the majority of his life, he was a sales representative for heating and cooling companies. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge #2509 in Blue Springs, MO. Joe was a devoted husband and father, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. He was such a gracious and kind man and will be missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Merle (affectionately known as Maude to Joe); his parents; and 7 siblings.

Jimmie W. Miller | d. March 18, 2008

Jimmie W. Miller, 75, of Blue Springs, passed away March 18, 2008 at the John Knox Village Care Center. He was born March 13, 1933 in Kansas City, MO.

Jimmie worked for Honeywell (Allied Signal) and retired in 1993 after 38 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. Jimmie was in the Boy Scouts for many years as a youth and earned the Eagle Scout award. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs. He enjoyed watching basketball, football, NASCAR, and going to the casino.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Daisy Miller, and a brother, C.W. Miller.

Murl Donald Hartford | d. March 13, 2008

Murl Donald Hartford, 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on March 13, 2008 at St. Mary’s Manor. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, March 17, 2008, at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church or the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

Murl was born on June 15, 1927 in Worthington, MO to Arthur W. and Eva F. (Cooley) Hartford. He graduated from Unionville High School and eventually attended UMKC for three years. Murl served our country in France and Germany in the Army Air Corps from 1945-1949. He was united in marriage to Evelyn (West) on November 24, 1949. Murl worked as a Claims Authorizer for the Social Security Administration until his retirement. After retirement in 1982, he was employed by Wells Fargo Bank for 12 years as a security officer. He was a member of NARFE Chapter 2041, Tribe of Mic-O-Say, Ararat Shriners, Ivanhoe Lodge #446 in Kansas City, MO, Kansas City York Rite (Bodies) in Kansas City, MO, and was a 12 year member of Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Herbert (1974) and Edwin(1993) Hartford.

Curtis E. Turner | d. March 12, 2008

Beloved son, father, and grandfather, Curtis E. Turner, 48, of Appleton City, Missouri, passed away on March 12, 2008 at his home. Visitation will be from 8:30am – 9:15 am, Saturday, March 15, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church with a rosary at 9:15 am. Funeral Mass will follow at 9:30 am. Curtis was born on June 20, 1959 in Independence, Missouri to Kenneth E. and Patricia A. (Murphy) Turner. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1977. He was currently self-employed as an Air Monitoring Technician for Asbestos Abatement. Curtis was Catholic by faith. He loved listening and creating his own rock music as well as fishing, hunting, and spending time with family and his best friend Max the dog.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, including his Grandpa Murphy, his mentor, to whom he had a special devotion.

Grace G. White, 94, of Independence, Missouri was called home to be with her Lord on March 10, 2008 at John Knox Village. She was a member of the Blue Springs Christian Church.

Grace was born on August 13, 1913 in Stillwell, Kansas to Charles E. and Lucy M. (Hiatt) Pedigo. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings: Alice Lyon, Allen Pedigo, Edward Pedigo, Charles Pedigo, Kathryn Rector, Lucy Mae Frye, Helen Kraas, an infant brother, and a grandson, Donald Allan White.

William E Cromwell | d. March 9, 2008

William “Bill” Cromwell, 76, of Overland Park, KS., passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his family from and into the arms to loving hands of God. Mr. Cromwell’s visitation will be on, Wednesday, March 12, 2008 from 5pm – 7 pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday March 13, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Graveside services at Blue Springs Cemetery. Bill was born May 28, 1931 in Sioux City, Iowa to William F and Estella Cromwell. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri where he attended Northeast High School and later education for his engineering degree. After retiring from the Bendix Corporation he pursued his passion for golf and implementing his engineering skills to design and manufacture a unique golf putter. He later met and married his true love Nancy J Asjes, and married for 20 years sharing their loving lives in Overland Park, KS.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, Sons: Michael Cromwell, of Houston TX, Bill Cromwell Jr., of Independence, MO, Mark Cromwell of Blue Springs, MO, Daughters: Debra Schonfeldt of Blue Springs, MO. Diana Cromwell of Lone Jack, MO. Bill enjoyed his life with his many grandchildren, Brady, Megan, Corie, Ricky, Kasey, Chris and Katie Cromwell, Danny, Patrick and Steve Schonfeldt, Nathan and Danielle McDaniel. He enjoyed 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Sarah J. Alsup | d. March 9, 2008

Sarah J. Alsup, 75, of Independence, Missouri, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 9, 2008. Visitation will be held from 2-3 pm, Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm following the visitation at Blue Springs Cemetery.

Sarah was born on May 6, 1932 in West Plains, Missouri to James and Nancy (Pliler) McCrackin. She grew up in West Plains and graduated from West Plains high school in 1950. In 1955 she was united in marriage to Amos Alsup, who preceded her in death in 1992. Sarah loved her grandchildren and would do anything for them. She was in the PTA and helped with fundraising—doing many donut sales- at each school her grandchildren attended.

Isabelle “Scotty” Holtgrieve | d. March 6, 2008

Isabelle “Scotty” Holtgrieve, 93, Blue Springs, Missouri, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of her loving Lord on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Wilshire at Lakewood Nursing Home. Cremation services will be conducted by Meyers Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Friday March 14, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church. Interment will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Crossroads Hospice of Kansas City.

Isabelle was born December 31, 1914 in St. Louis, MO to William and Isabelle Scott. She grew up in St. Louis, Missouri where she later met and married Marvin H. Holtgrieve on May 16. They were married for 51 years. They lived in Dallas, Texas, St. Louis, Missouri and Blue Springs, Missouri. She was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church since 1961. Isabelle was a homemaker and wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will truly be missed by all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1997; and a brother, Edward Scott.

She is survived by her:

Francena Cox Rothman | d. March 6, 2008

Francena Cox Rothman, 95, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on March 6, 2008 at Wilshire at Lakewood. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Friday, March 7, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, March 10, 2008 at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens in Springfield, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association.

Francena was born on December 4, 1912 in South English, IA to John, Sr. and Rebecca Cox. She was united in marriage to Arthur Rothman, who preceded her in death in 1982. She was the owner and operator of the Quick Chik restaurant for many years and she also ran the Senior Citizens Center in Republic, MO. She was a loving grandmother and she acted as her grandson’s den mother when they were in Boy Scouts.

She was preceded in death by three children: Janean Eaton, Beverly Dixon, and Earl Rothman.

Stephen Charles Stone | d. March 5, 2008

Stephen Charles Stone, 62, passed away March 5, 2008 peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, Gramps, son, brother-in-law, and uncle.

Visitation will be held from 3-8 pm Sunday March 9, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am Monday March 10, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church.

Interment will be at Blue Springs Cemetery.

Stephen was born September 11, 1945 in Houston, Missouri to Dallas and Chrystal (Funk) Stone, Sr. He retired from Ford Motor Company at Claycomo after 39 years. He was a member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church. He was also a member of the UAW. He loved playing golf and spending time with his grandchildren.

Ethel was born on December 8, 1923 to Carl and Lillie M. (Born) Harris in Genoa, Nebraska. At 6 months old, her parents brought her by covered wagon to Gallatin, MO, where they settled and she was raised with her 8 siblings. On June 14, 1941 she married Donald Oza Drummond and went on to have 3 sons, Richard, Jim and David. Donald and Ethel were married 45 years before he passed in October 1986. Ethel worked outside of the home at times but drew her greatest joy from being a housewife and mother. She enjoyed many hobbies including sewing, gardening, and baking. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and doting grandma.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; son, Richard; grandson, Ricky; and two brothers, George and Johnnie.

Richard L. Thomas | d. March 1, 2008

Richard L. Thomas, 78, Grain Valley, MO, passed away March 1, 2008. Visitation will be held from 9-10am, Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Masonic Services will follow at 10am. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

Richard was born August 27, 1929 to William and Martha (Garrett) Thomas in Detroit, Alabama. He moved to Kansas City in 1964 and had lived in Grain Valley, MO. for 35 years until his death. Richard was an equipment operator for the Jackson County Parks and Recreation until his retirement. He was a lifetime member and Past Master of the Blue Springs Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. and Past Patron of the Blue Springs Order of Eastern Star. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Karen Owen and a son Danny Thomas; 4 brothers and 1 sister.
