Earnest Whitfield Johnson | d. January 30, 2008

Earnest Whitfield Johnson, 77, of Sugar Creek, Missouri passed away on January 30, 2008 at the VA Hospital. Visitation will be held from 1-2 pm, Monday, February 4, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will follow at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at 3:00 PM, on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post # 3976 in Sugar Creek, MO.

Earnest was born on October 9, 1930 in Lee’s Summit, MO to Clarence F. and Mildred (Branch) Johnson. He attended and graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1948. Earnest honorably served our country in the Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Era in the Small Armored Division. He was a third generation bee keeper, and loved to work with his bees. He sold honey all over Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri—he also ran a fruit stand off of 291 and Cement City Road in River Bend, MO for many years. Earnest enjoyed hunting for deer, geese, rabbits, and mushrooms. He was Mormon by faith. Earnest was a member of the American Legion and the VFW Post #3976 in Sugar Creek, MO, and the NRA.

He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lyndsay Johnson.

Loren D. Williams | d. January 29, 2008

Loren D. Williams, 68, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on January 29, 2008. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, January 31, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO at 10:00 AM on February 1, 2008. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #499, care of Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Loren was born on January 5, 1940 in Urbana, MO to David and Mary (Hoppers) Williams. He served our country in the Army from 1962-1965. Loren was a current member of the American Legion Post #499. On June 17, 1965, he was united in marriage to Kiyoko Genka. Loren was retired from` 30 years of employment as a stockman for Sears. In his spare-time he loved to go fishing and work on cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bobby Williams.

Donald C. Tideman | d. January 26, 2008

Donald C. Tideman, 77, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at the Blue Springs Care Center. Donald was born May 6, 1930 in Carter, SD. He moved to Blue Springs in 1950.

Donald worked for Standard Oil and retired from Allis Chalmers in 1993. He loved to travel and had visited 48 states. Donald served in the Army from 1952 – 1954.

His survivors include his:
Mother: Reva Tideman of Blue Springs, MO
Sister: Helen Miller and husband, Jim
Nieces: Sandra Cole and Linda Scassellati, and husband Jeff
Great-Nieces and Nephews: Scott, Amy, Brett, and Erica Scassellati and Matthew Cole all of Blue Springs, MO.

There will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Blue Springs Care Center.


Mary Alice Swinney | d. January 22, 2008

Mary Alice Swinney, 63, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away on January 22, 2008. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at 11 AM at Floral Hills East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Community Blood Bank (4040 Main St, Kansas City, MO 64111).

Mary was born on April 17, 1944 in Nebraska City, NE to John and Hazel (Juilifs) Dukes. She was united in marriage to Robert Swinney, who preceded her in death in 1999.  For many years, she worked at the Law Office for Cochran, Oswald, and Roam. Mary loved horses, flowers, but especially adored her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and father.

Nancy Carol Liddle | d. January 21, 2008

Nancy Carol Liddle, 69, of Warsaw, MO, formerly of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on January 21, 2008 at KU Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services commencing at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the “Liddle Family Fund” care of the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (1055 Broadway, Ste 130, Kansas City, Missouri 64105).

Nancy was born on February 4, 1938 to Clarence and Lillian (Cockrum) Aldred.  She was a co-owner and operator of Liddle Sport Shop with her husband, Dody, for many years. Nancy was also a clerk at the Jones Store, retiring in 2000. She was a member of the Jaycees Wives, Elketts, and the BBA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dody Liddle, father, Clarence Aldred, and grandson, Blake Liddle.

Harry Turner Massey | d. January 16, 2008

Harry Turner Massey, 86, Independence, MO passed away January 16, 2008 at Kansas City Hospice House.

Memorial Service will be held at 11 am Tuesday January 22, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main  Blue Springs, MO 64015, 816-229-3276.

Harry was born November 26, 1921 in Liberal , Kansas to Harry Morgan and Maybelle (Turner) Massey .  He was a dispatcher for Panhandle-Eastern Pipeline Company.

He was a member of the Church of Resurrection and was a Mason.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Thaine M. Gfeller | d. January 15, 2008

Thaine M. Gfeller, 92, of Garden City, Missouri passed away on January 15, 2008 at Cass Medical Center. Visitation will be from 9-10AM, Saturday, January 19, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill Presbyterian Church.

Thaine was born on August 30, 1915 in Chapman, KS to Herman and Blanche (Roles) Gfeller. He was employed by R.B. Rice Sausage Company in Lee’s Summit, MO. Thaine was very active in 4-H and served as a Horsemanship Leader and was a member of the Lee’s Summit Saddle Club. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Lee’s Summit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Lorraine M. Masse | d. January 12, 2008

Lorraine M. Masse 89, of Blue Springs, Missouri formally of Ludington Michigan and Pasadena, Maryland passed away Saturday January 12, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, Missouri. Funeral Mass will be held at a later date in Ludington. Memorial Contributions to Hospice of Mason County.

Mrs. Masse was born February 17, 1918   in Ludington Michigan the daughter of William and Joanne (Pasinski) Pioszak.  She was a Catholic by faith and a member of the St. Simon Catholic Church.  She was active in the Little Flower Circle Altar Society.  She was also a member of the Emblem Club, Lincoln Hills Golf Club.  She was employed by the Star Watch Case Company. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard L. Masse of 44 years, three Brothers and three Sisters. 

Survivors include 4 daughters and their husbands:

Rex Elmer Kuehn | d. January 11, 2008

Rex Elmer Kuehn, 69, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away on January 11, 2008 at St. Lukes East. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Monday, January 14, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 15, 2007 at Lee’s Summit Christian Church (800 NE Tudor Road  Lee’s Summit, MO  64086). Burial will follow at Wright City Cemetery at 2:00 PM in Wright City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Rex was born on June 23, 1938 in St. Louis, MO to Elmer and Selma (Gerdemann) Kuehn. He was united in marriage to Betty (Jones) on August 13, 1960. Rex graduated from East High School in Kansas City. He graduated from the General Motors Institute, where he was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, and also where he met his wife, Betty. Rex worked as an engineering manager for General Motors for 41 Years. He was a member of the Lee’s Summit Christian Church where he loved to teach Sunday School and greet people in the morning on their way into church. He was past president of the Optimist Club, member of the Free Masons, and was very active in the Boy Scouts of America in Grand Blanc, MI. Rex loved to be outside, enjoyed gardening, model trains, woodworking, and most of all, his grandchildren.

Ruby Helen Latham | d. January 8, 2008

Ruby Helen Latham, 85, Blue Springs, MO., died in her sleep Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2008, at her home. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, January 9, from 6-8:30 PM at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Visitation on Thursday from 6-8 and services on Friday at 10:00 AM at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah, Illinois. Memorial gifts in Ruby’s honor may be donated to Kent Memorial Church in Sunrise Beach, MO.

Ruby was born March 17, 1922, in Mascoutah, Illinois to Bob and Emelie (Meier) Trout. She was married to Ralph Latham in 1942, who preceded her in death in 1988. Ruby was the owner of The Topiary Tree Hallmark Card & Gift Shop in Blue Springs for many years. But nothing gave her more joy than being a mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathan Kraviec.

She is survived by her son, Steve Latham (wife Linda) and daughter, Karen Capron (husband Steve); six grandchildren, Suzi Waltke and husband, Allen, Scott Latham, Charlotte Everts and husband Marcus, Michelle Kaskovich and husband Dennis, Kelley Capron, and Kristin McConnell and husband Brett; and great-grandchildren, Mason, Ryker, Duncan, Mila, Aidan, Eva, Jordan, Zachary, Benjamin, Bethany, and Drew.


John Patrick Farris, II | d. January 6, 2008

John Patrick Farris, II, 17, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on January 6, 2007. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 10, 2008 from 5-8 PM at Kansas City Baptist Temple. Funeral services will be held at 10:30, Friday, January 11, 2007, also at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kansas City Baptist Temple for the future Children’s Educational Wing.

John was born on April 2, 1990 in Kansas City, MO to John P. and Catherine (Shepard) Farris. He was currently working as a clerk at the Quik Trip on Noland and I-70. He was a member of the Kansas City Baptist Temple. John loved playing the drums, working on his car, running track, spending time with his friends, and going to church and spreading his faith.

He is survived by his:

Frank Sidney Brown

Frank Sidney Brown, Sr., 76, Oak Grove, MO. passed away at his home. Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 pm Sunday January 6, 2008 at First Bible Baptist Church in Blue Springs, MO.  Arrangements: Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 West Main Blue Springs, MO 64015, 816-229-3276.

Frank was born April 8, 1931 in Belchertown, Mass. to Dean and Ethel (Piper) Brown.

He served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a diesel truck mechanic and retired after 30 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union #597 and American Legion Post #4 in Keene, New Hampshire.  He was a bus driver for Oak Grove, Missouri school district for 5 years.  He served on the police department for many years in Walpole, NH. Frank had previously lived in North Walpole, NH.

He also coached basketball and baseball and loved to volunteer.  Frank could be tough, but he loved helping people.

Survivors include his children, Theresa M. Brown of Kentfield, CA, Frank Brown, Jr. and his wife, Pam, of North Walpole, NH, David A. Brown and his wife, Karen, of Ellington, CT, and Mark A. Brown and his wife, Sheryl, of Blue Springs, MO; granddaughters, Victoria Brown, Valerie Brown, Kathleen Brown, Alexandra Lugo, Taylor Brown, Abigail Brown, Kristine Brown, and Haley Brown; siblings, Dean Brown of Margate, FL and Arlene Parker of Wenham, MA.


Michael V. Leone | d. January 3, 2008

Michael V. Leone, 61, of Kansas City, MO passed away on January 3, 2008 at KU Medical Center. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Disabled Veterans.

Michael was born on February 12, 1946 in Kansas City, MO the son of Andrew and Frances Leone. He graduated from Blue Springs High School in 1964. He served our country in many ways: during the Vietnam Era in the Army; as past Chief of Police in Canton, MO and Gower, MO;  and a police officer at Lake Waukomis and Weatherby Lake. Michael was employed by the American Protective Services for 22 years, and then by the ATF until his retirement. He also worked at the Kansas City, MO Public Library. Michael earned his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and his Masters degree in History. Michael was a member of the VFW and Army 177th Steel Tigers. He was Catholic by faith.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances; niece, Valerie Niemeyer; and brother-in-law, Joe Niemeyer.

Dorothy H. Scott, 87, of Blue Springs, MO, formally of Bartlesville, OK, passed away on January 1, 2008. Private family services will be held at a later date in Bartlesville, OK.
