James “Jimmy” Edward Smith, Jr. | d. February 26, 2008

James “Jimmy” Edward Smith, Jr., 39, passed away on February 26, 2008. Visitation will be held from 9-10 am, Saturday, March 1, 2008 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am. Christian burial will be at a later date in Jacksonville, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to defray funeral expenses.

Jimmy was born on October 7, 1968 in Tyler, Texas to James E., Sr. and Sue (Vermillion) Smith. He was an alumnus of Texan A&M. He was united in marriage on November 18, 2004 in Kansas City, Missouri to Sandra (Vardijan). Jimmy worked as a consultant for Burns & McDonnell Engineering and was a member of IRWA. Jimmy appreciated nature and spent three summers doing environmental research in Honduras and loved to talk about his experiences. He was full of love and very outgoing and would talk to everyone he met.

He was preceded in death by his uncle, David Vermillion and his grandparents.

Stephanie Ann Bentele | d. February 24, 2008

The beloved, cherished, and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, friend and teacher, Stephanie Ann Bentele, age 46, passed away unexpectedly February 24th, 2008. Visitation will be at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, Blue Springs, MO., from 5 to 7pm, Wednesday, February 27th. Rosary will be said in her remembrance beginning at 4:45pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, February 28th, at St John LaLande starting at 10am. Her interment will be at Floral Hills East, Lee’s Summit..

Stephanie was born June 2nd, 1961 in Kansas City, MO. She grew up in Independence, MO and was a graduate of Truman High School. She received her Bachelor’s of Science in communications and her Master’s in Elementary Education from UMKC. She taught in the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District where she was a 5th Grade teacher at Summit Point Elementary and was the K-6 Science Curriculum Specialist (Coordinator) for the District. She had previously taught at St. Bernadette’s Parochial School. She was the consummate teacher, not with words alone, but with hands on experiments teaching scientific principles. She loved her students and enjoyed opening the world of education and science and fun to their minds.

She was loving, kind and supportive of all she came in contact with. She always saw the best in people. She was an enthusiastic supporter of her nieces and nephews and was always found at their various events or taking them to shows, dinners, or concerts. She loved all sports and especially enjoyed cheering on the Chiefs.

The family has, in cooperation with the Lee’s Summit School District, created a scholarship in Stephanie’s memory. The family encourages a contribution to the scholarship fund in lieu of flowers. Stephanie is survived by her parents, Leo and Aletha Kay Bentele of Independence, sister Kimberly Fischer, brother Randy Bentele, beloved nieces Danielle and Leah Fischer, Bethany and Hannah Bentele and cherished nephews Joshua and Peter Bentele. Sadly mourn her passing.


Isabel Margaret Stoecklein | d. February 24, 2008

Isabel Margaret Stoecklein, 74, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on February 24, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. A rosary will be said at 4:45 pm at St. John LaLande Catholic Church on Thursday, February 28, 2008. Visitation will follow from 5-7 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, February 29, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment will be held at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John LaLande Catholic Church.

Isabel was born on March 31, 1933 in Booneville, Missouri to William B. and Margaret E. (Aggler) Lang. On May 3, 1955, she was united in marriage to Albert Roy Stoecklein. Isabel served as Financial Director for the City of Blue Springs for 25 years, retiring in 1999. She was a 53 year member of St. John LaLande Catholic Church—and in that time she had served on the Altar Society and helped start the school lunch program. Isabel was a past president of the GFOA and volunteered her time at Vesper Hall and as a secretary for Allis Chalmers Retirement Association.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Thomas O. Ries | d. February 18, 2008

Thomas O. Ries, 79, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on February 18, 2008 at St. Luke’s Medical Center. A rosary will be held at 4:45 PM, Thursday, February 21, 2008 at St. John LaLande Catholic Church with visitation following from 5-7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM at St. John LaLande on Friday, February 22, 2008. Interment will take place at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John LaLande Church or School or to charity of choice.

Thomas was born on May 3, 1928 in Chicago, IL to Orville T. and Anne (Brady) Ries. Thomas served our country from 1946-1948 during WWII in the Army. He graduated from Loras College, in Dubuque, IA, in 1954. On May 29, that same year, he was united in marriage to Marianne McCarthy in Dubuque, IA. Thomas was awarded Man of the Year in 1970 in Winfield, Kansas. He was the owner and operator of The Ries Company and was a Manufacturers Representative for many years. A resident of Blue Springs since 1972, Thomas was a member of the American Legion #499 and the Knights of Columbus. He was very active at St. John LaLande, previously serving on the Parish Council, Finance Committee, and the volunteer tutoring program at the school. Tom also was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital for many years. He was an avid snow skier and shared this love with many family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Frances Kaiser, Nancy Hespin, Jim Ries, John Ries, and several nieces and nephews.

Dorrine J. Campbell, 79, Kansas City, MO. passed away at Blue Rivers Rehabilitation Center Saturday February 16, 2008

Service will be held at 11 am Thursday February 21, 2008 at the chapel with burial following at Blue Springs Cemetery.

Dorrine was born December 30, 1928 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Leslie and Lois (Wilkins) Valentine. She loved to crochet and do pottery and even helped build her and her husband Luther’s home. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the zoo and out to eat. She was a Christian by faith and spent most of her adult life as a family caregiver.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Luther; sister Arline Wederski; niece Joan Hodges; and granddaughter Christina Clark.

Virgil Lee Morgan | d. February 16, 2008

Virgil Lee Morgan, 49, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on February 16, 2008 at Research Medical Center. Visitation will be held from 9-10 am on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services will take place at 1 pm on Friday at Sheffield Cemetery in Arcadia, Kansas.

Virgil was born on November 28, 1958 in Olympia, WA to Virgil F. and Anna M. (Huit) Morgan. He was the owner and operator of State Street Auto. Virgil loved to play video games and chess, but most of all he loved to be with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1983.

Helen Louise Maxon | d. February 12, 2008

Helen Louise Maxon, 67, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at TMC Lakewood. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM, Saturday, February 16, 2008 at the Blue Springs Baptist Temple with funeral services at 11 AM. Helen was born on August 16, 1940 in Boise, Idaho to John Williams and Helen Maxine (Conner) Adams. She had been living at the Friendship Manor. Helen was a member of the Blue Springs Baptist Temple.

Eleanor Theresa Hipsher | d. February 10, 2008

Eleanor Theresa Hipsher, 93, of Blue Springs, MO, formerly of Warsaw, MO, passed away at Blue Springs Care Center on February 10, 2008. Visitation will be held from 1-2 PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel with funeral services at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church (12520 St. Mary Ave., New Cambrid, MO)

Eleanor was born February 22, 1914 in New York City, New York. She married Frank Hipsher on October 13, 1932 in New York City. She was a military wife for 20 years. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Warsaw, MO, and also a member of Warsaw’s Homeowners Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank on December 20, 1983; two brothers, Francis Gallagher and Raymond Gallagher; and three sisters, Kathleen Green, Marion Davis, and Ileen Avery.

Betty Lou Conyers | d. February 9, 2008

Betty Lou Conyers, 79, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on February 9, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 PM, Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 1:30 PM.

Betty was born on August 24, 1928 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Jim and Josephine (Carr) Mack. She attended Smithland High School. In June 1947, she was united in marriage to Bert Conyers. They farmed in the Mapleton, IA area for 20 years and then lived in Moville, IA for the next 30 years. Betty had worked at St. Joseph Hospital in Sioux City, IA. After retirement, she moved to Blue Springs. She was very active in the Post #499 American Legion Auxiliary, Color Guard, and was the Poppy Chairman for many years. She had recently been attending the Cowboy Church in Lone Jack, MO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert in 1998; and sister, Ruby Henry.

Charles Junior Gordon, 85, Independence, MO passed away February 7, 2008 at Truman Medical Center East.

Charles was born July 12, 1922 to Charles and Myrtle (Cummings) Gordon in Butler, MO. He was an equipment operator for a consumer packaging company. He was a member of the United Paperworkers Union.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Charles Lee Gordon, and a brother Harold Gordon.

Darrel was born September 29, 1934 in Marysville, CA to Alfred and Louise (Wals) Edwards. He was a lumberman for wholesale lumber. He was Catholic by faith. He was a member of American Legion #499 and 40&8.

He was preceded in death by his wives Louise Coyle and Irene Coyle and his parents.

Ralph Alexander Wilkinson | d. February 4, 2008

Ralph Alexander Wilkinson, 85, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on February 4, 2008 at his home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Lone Jack Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Ralph was born on March 29, 1922 in Chapel Hill, MO to Wesley M. and Lillian (Hightower) Wilkinson. At the age of 21, he was drafted into the Army and served in World War II from October 1942 to October 1945 as an automotive mechanic and cook. Ralph  received medals in “Rifle Marksmanship”, “Good Conduct”, and “European Theater of Operation (ETO) Campaign”. On September 15, 1951, he was united in marriage to B. Pearl (Johnmeyer). For many years, Ralph was employed by Lake City Ammunition Plant, retiring in 1985. Years ago, Ralph liked fishing, hunting, and playing basketball and golf. More recently, he enjoyed attending outdoor estate auctions, keeping up with regional sports teams, and sitting on the patio under the big shade tree drinking coffee. Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post #499 and had been active in the Blue Springs Police Reserves in the 1970’s.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and grandson, Evan Banks.

Louise K. Hibler | d. February 2, 2008

Louise K. Hibler, widow of Leo D. Hibler, passed in the morning of February 2, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Leaving her daughter, Patricia (Tish) KaBrick and granddaughter, Tara KaBrick. Her living siblings are Dorothy Speaks, Hilda Beaver, Mary Nell Masters, and Bill Hines. She came from a family of 12 kids and has many nieces and nephews. She will truly be missed by all that knew her.

Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, February 6, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. The Elks Lodge will be serving food after leaving Blue Springs Cemetery.


Richard Paul Brockmeyer | d. February 1, 2008

Richard Paul Brockmeyer, 60, of Buckner, MO passed away on February 1, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Visitation will be held at Meyers Funeral Chapel from 5-7 PM on Monday, February 4, 2008. Funeral services will be held at Harvest Baptist Church (1353 NW Jefferson) in Blue Springs, MO at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Burial will follow at Buckner-Hill Cemetery.

Richard was born on January 20, 1948 to George and Arvie (Kabrick) Brockmeyer and taken home to Independence, MO. He attended Fort Osage High School, and was soon introduced to Darlene Carlton. They were united in marriage in 1964, when he was just 16. At a young age, he started working with Bill White Construction as a carpenter. In 2000, he started Brockmeyer Construction. Richard loved to hunt birds and deer. He was attending Harvest Baptist Church in Blue Springs, MO. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and uncle, Edward Brockmeyer.

Reva L. Tideman | d. February 1, 2008

Reva L. Tideman, 99, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on Friday, February 1, 2008 at the Blue Springs Care Center.

Reva was born in Harlan, Iowa, December 6, 1908. She lived in Nebraska and South Dakota before moving to Blue Springs in 1950. She worked at the Lake City Ammunition Plant and retired from Wilson Sporting Goods. Reva loved to sew and travel and had visited 48 states.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, five sisters, and son, Donald Tideman
