Ellen Murray | d. April 30, 2008

On Wednesday, April 30, 2008, Ellen Murray, 51, of Blue Springs, MO, beautiful wife, loving mother, and cherished grandmother, passed away after a long illness. A tireless mind and a sympathetic spirit, Ellen devoted herself to her family, her animals, her gardens and her faith. She was a member of Outreach Restoration Branch of Church of Jesus Christ, which was most important to her. Her strong faith led to the acceptance of her illness and gave her family inspiration and faith. Born on July 16, 1956 in Sharon, PA, the daughter of David W. and Frances (Park) Ryhal, who preceded her in death, she graduated from Hickory High School in Hermitage, PA in 1974. Three years later, on June 25, 1977, she was united in marriage to Kevin of Sharpsville, PA. They raised two beautiful daughters, Jamie and Amanda, in the area before Ellen fulfilled a lifelong dream of hers to move to Missouri to be nearer to her family.

She is survived by her husband, Kevin J. Murray; daughter Jamie Lynn & Josh Hern of Blue Springs; daughter Amanda Ellen Murray also of Blue Springs; sisters Karen Devera, Linda Ryhal, Sue Maurice, Donna Rodgers and SueAnn Klein; two grandchildren Emma Masten and baby Hern, and her two dogs.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 6 pm Saturday May 3, 2008 at the Outreach Restoration Branch of Church of Jesus Christ at 723 S. Crysler  Independence, MO 64052.

Michael John Czerenda | d. April 28, 2008

Michael John Czerenda, 86, of Independence, MO passed away April 28, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center. Michael was born July 9, 1921 to Joseph and Anna Czerenda. He was one of seven children.

Formerly of Ithaca, New York, he served the United States Navy for three years and was a veteran of World War II. In Norfolk, Virginia, he met Bonnie Jean Mauck. They were married on October 3, 1946, and spent 61 years together. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri, Mike and Bonnie had two daughters together and he worked as a well-accomplished machinist for over 41 years, 25 of which he spent at Griffin Wheel in Muncie, KS. Even after retirement, Mike enjoyed keeping busy by working odd jobs such as painting houses, mowing lawns, heating and cooling work, an Oceans of Fun employee, and a blackjack dealer at Argosy Casino.

Michael is survived by wife, Bonnie; daughters, Cheryl Christine VanBebber and Teresa Ann Lesini, son-in-law Charles M. VanBebber Jr., grandchildren Charles “Bear” M. VanBebber III and Sara Ann Lesini, great-grandson Alexander Michael Lesini, and his cat, who he named, “Salty Dog”. He is also survived by all six siblings, brothers Stanley and wife Marilyn Czerenda, John and wife Peggy Czerenda, Adam and wife Amy Czerenda, sisters Mary and husband Chester Stutkowski, Annie and husband Allen Hover, and Helen Watkins.

Mike will be greatly missed. His smile and laugh was contagious and mischievous personality was unforgettable. Visitation will be held Thursday May 1, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel 1600 W. Main St., Blue Springs, MO from 5-7 p.m. Services will be at the Chapel Friday, May 2 at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens 3105 S Slaughter Rd., Grain Valley, Missouri. Lurabell Knowles | d. April 24, 2008

Lurabelle Knowles, 93, of Independence, Missouri passed away on April 24, 2008 at Monterey Park Nursing Center. A family gathering will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Donna Beth Reed | d. April 22, 2008

Donna Beth Reed, 52, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on April 22, 2008. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Mountain View, Missouri.


Betty Jane Franksen | d. April 21, 2008

Betty Jane Franksen, 81, Blue Springs, MO formerly of Grandview, MO passed away Monday, April 21, 2008. Betty was born December 7, 1926 in Fresno, CA to George H. and Josephine Wenstrom Clark. They preceded her in death.

She was a 1944 graduate of Mission High School in San Fransisco, CA. She also attended Junior College in San Fransisco. She and Gerald J. Franksen were united in marriage on September 20, 1947 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in San Fransisco. Mr. Franksen preceded her in death on August 15, 1994. Betty spent the majority of her working years in accounting and bookeeping for the Koret Clothing Company in San Fransisco and for the Quality Park Envelope Company in St. Paul, MN. She later spent many years doing the accounting for her and Gerald's investment properties located in the Kansas City area. She enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and taking family vacations.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 2 sisters. Survivors include 1 son, Dr. Scott Franksen of Kearney, MO; 1 daughter, Adrienne and husband Mike Wagener of Blue Springs, MO; 1 grandson, Shane and wife Suzanne Wagener of Grain Valley, MO; 1 grandaughter, Nikki and husband Todd DeMint of Parkville, MO, 4 great grandchildren, Kiley and Kole Wagener of Grain Valley and Evan and Avery DeMint of Parkville; 1 half sister, Sandy Harlan of Woodland, CA and 1 brother, George Clark of Jackson, CA. Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Church of the Resurrection, 15th Street and RD Mize Rd in Blue Springs.

The family will recieve friends following the service at the home of Mike and Adrienne. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.


Connie June Belmore | d. April 20, 2008

Connie June Belmore, 55, of Independence, Missouri passed away on April 20, 2008 in Carrollton, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 2-3 pm on Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3pm at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, potted plants or memorial contributions may be sent c/o Meyers Funeral Chapel.

Connie was born on June 15, 1952 in West Branch, MI to Frederick W. and Matilda J. (Norton) Goff. She attended grade school and graduated from high school in Michigan. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Graceland University in Lamoni, IA. She was a member of the Community of Christ Church. Connie was a loving mother and loved spending time with her kids and grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, F. Glenn Goff, and her sister, Linda M. Mueller.

Connie is survived by her children William Belmore of Marquette, MI, Janice & David Drace of Stanhope, NJ, Staff SGT Nicholas & Marney Belmore of Carrollton, MO, JaneAnne Belmore of Independence, MO, Robert Jacob Belmore of Lamoni, IA, Jessa Belmore of Independence, MO, Jenna Belmore of Independence, MO; and their father, Robert Belmore of Independence, MO, her siblings Dennis & Nancy Goff of Lake City, MI, Gregory & Suzanne Goff of Blue Springs, MO, Jayne & Gary Clarkson of DeSoto, KS, sister-in-law Anna Mae Goff of West Branch, MI, 10 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Alfred J. Smith, USAF Ret. | d. April 17, 2008

Alfred J. Smith, 86, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on April 17, 2008 at St. Mary’s Manor. Visitation will be held from 12 noon -1pm on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Graveside services with full military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 2 pm, Monday, April 21, 2008 in Sweet Springs, MO.

Alfred was born on June 21, 1921 in Leeton, MO to James E. and Agnes Smith. He graduated from Leeton High School and later joined the Air Force from which he retired on September 30, 1968. His total service equaled 22 years, 1 month, and 17 days.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and first wife, Kathyrn Lee.

David Eugene Hill | d. April 16, 2008

David Eugene Hill, 39, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on April 16, 2008. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, also at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.

David was born on January 6, 1969 in Barstow, CA to Roy and Maudeena (Greenlee) Hill. He graduated from Alta Loma High School in California in 1987. On August 8, 1991, he was united in marriage to Lisa Marie Leslie in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. David had currently been working as a diesel mechanic for ABC Tow. David was a member of Blue Springs Assembly Church. He was a loving and very devoted husband and father. When his children were younger, he would always be found either in the stands at their sports events or on the field coaching and encouraging them. David was a kind-hearted man who would willingly use his talents and gifts in the community to help other people.

He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Hill.

Lawrence Dale Love | d. April 15, 2008

Lawrence Dale Love, 61, passed away on April 15, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.  Larry & his wife Sue had been married 37 years.  The best of those years began in 1991 and 1992 when their 2 children, Bradford & Katherine, now ages 17 & 15, were born. Brad is a junior at Rockhurst High School, and Katherine is a freshman at Notre Dame de Sion High School. 

Although Larry was older than the average parent, he could not have been a better or prouder parent.  From the time the kids were little, he was a fixture at the kid’s games, practices and school events.  He loved spending time watching Brad play football and soccer at Rockhurst.  He took special joy in watching Katherine play basketball, softball and soccer.  After Katherine made the varsity softball team at Sion, he was so proud the day he bought Katherine her varsity letter jacket.   Larry was a leader in Boy Scout Troop 362 and a Warrior in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say.  During the summers, he enjoyed going with Brad and all of the boys and leaders to Boy Scout Summer Camp at H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation.

Larry was a lawyer in the Kansas City area for 35 years.  He was in private practice for 25 years. For the last 10 years, he worked for the State of Missouri most recently as an Assistant Attorney General where he was surrounded by a terrific work family.  Larry was born and raised in Mexico, Missouri, and most of his family still resides there.  He graduated from William Jewell College and the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.  He served in Viet Nam with the US Army. For a number of years, he taught Law and Business classes at Longview Community College.  He also had served as a Municipal Judge in Greenwood, Missouri

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Edna Love of Mexico, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Love and his son and daughter, Brad and Katherine Love.  He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Carroll and Gloria Love, his sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Thomas Roberts, his sister, Connie Hoover, all of Mexico, Missouri, and a wonderful group of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins that brought him great joy and were like our children for many years. 

In celebration of his life, a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at 10:00 am at St. John LaLande Catholic Church (805 NW R.D. Mize Road   Blue Springs, MO   64015).  Visitation will be from 2-4 pm at Meyers Funeral Chapel (1600 W Main   Blue Springs, MO  64015) on Sunday, April 20, 2008. Interment will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Mexico, Missouri at 2:30 pm on Monday, April 21, 2008. As a remembrance to Larry, the family requests that you have a party with your family and friends and have a great laugh about your favorite “Larry Love Story” – there are a million of them. Robert Timothy Vandevort | d. April 15, 2008

Robert Timothy Vandevort, 48, of Kingsville, Missouri passed away on April 15, 2008. Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Monday, April 21, 2008 at First Bible Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 10:00 am at First Bible Baptist. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up in Tim’s honor to benefit his sons.

Tim was born on September 9, 1959 in Independence, Missouri to Robert J. Vandevort and Berneita Downey. He graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1977. Tim loved the outdoors—whether he was hunting, fixing cars and garage doors or riding his beloved Harley. He especially loved to watch his boys play sports while they were growing up. Tim volunteered his time in Lone Jack as an EMS and a volunteer firefighter. He was a man who would put everyone before himself and would be there when you needed him. He was our rock.

Harvey Huntsucker | d. April 14, 2008

Harvey Huntsucker 80, Sibley, MO. passed away April 14, 2008. Visitation will be held 5-7 pm Wednesday April 16, 2008 at Six Mile Baptist Church. Service will be held at 10 am Thursday April 17, 2008 at the church. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Harvey was born December 8, 1927 in Sibley, MO to Lewis and Minnie (Herron) Huntsucker. He served in the military during WWII. Harvey was a switchman at the KC Terminal Railroads until his retirement. He grew up on his homeplace farm and was a farmer all his life. He was a member of the Six Mile Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Jo Huntsucker, brothers Edwin, Elwood, Tom, Carl, and David Huntsucker.

Michael Wayne Shay | d. April 12, 2008

Michael Wayne Shay, 61, of Independence, Missouri passed away on March 12, 2008. Graveside services will be held at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri at 10:00 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2008. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meyers Funeral Chapel to help defray funeral costs.

Michael was born on December 2, 1946 in Independence, Missouri to Anthony and Mildred (McGuire) Shay. He attended Blue Springs High School. In 1967 he entered the Marine Corps and served his country during the Vietnam War. During the war, he received two purple hearts and a bronze star. As a sharpshooter he obtained the position of Lance Corporal before he was discharged in 1969. He was a member of the American Legion Post #499.

He was preceded in death by his brother: William H. Shay.

Ronald Milton Munzuris | d. April 10, 2008

Ron Munzuris went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2008. Ron was preceded in death by his daughter, Becky Witt.

He is survived by his Wife of 54 years, Theresa Munzuris and his Children Rocky Munzuris, and wife Rosemary, Brenda Holler and husband Richard, Angie Hodges and husband Brian, his Brother, Mike Munzuris, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 2-3 pm on Monday, April 14, 2008 at Calvary Baptist Church (900 NW 22nd St Blue Springs, MO) with funeral services commencing at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Calvary Baptist Church of Blue Springs, MO.


Wayde John Sebby | d. April 10, 2008

Wayde John Sebby, 85, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on April 10, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital. There are no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Corps Association (715 Broadway Street Quantico, VA 22134)

Wayde was born on October 27, 1922 in Plainfield, Illinois to Arthur and Rose (Horton) Sebby. They preceded him in death. After attending Plainfield High School, he entered the US Marine Corps and was a fighter pilot in a Corsair during World War II. Wayde had lived in Mississippi for 27 years, and had moved to Grain Valley just recently. He was attending the First United Methodist Church of Blue Springs.

Wayde is survived by his wife Grayce M. Sebby, daughters Cheryl Kay & husband, Randy Dewar of Grain Valley, MO, Janet Marie & husband, Michael Luttrell of Marshalltown, IA, brothers Glenn & wife, Patricia Sebby of Fon Du Lac, WI, twin brother Wayne J. Sebby of Biloxi, MS, grandchildren Brooke Roskop, Heather Davis, Craig Luttrell, Courtney Luttrell and great grandchildren Kate Davis, Cogan Davis, and Sydney Roskop.


Patricia Louise "Pat" Beemer | d. April 7, 2008

Patricia Louise “Pat” Beemer, 79, of Blue Springs, Missouri went to be with the Lord on April 7, 2008 at KU Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, April 10, 2008 at Tri-City Baptist Church. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am on Friday, April 11, 2008, also at Tri-City Baptist Church (4500 Little Blue Parkway Independence, MO). Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Tri-City Baptist Church—where she held her membership for many years. She trusted Jesus Christ to be her personal Lord and Savior in 1974.

Pat was born on April 16, 1928 in Kansas City, MO to Forest R. and Maybelle (Stuber) Wood. She attended Paseo High School in Kansas City, MO and graduated in 1945. On September 9, 1950, she was united in marriage to Bill Beemer in Independence, Missouri. Patricia soon became a mother, as well as the co-founder of Beemer Construction. She loved being a housewife and mother, and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

Pat cherished her grandchildren and when they were little, she spent many hours sewing dresses for them, and even put her trademark, “Made by Granny” on the tag of each item. She was affectionately known as “Granny” by all of her beloved grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bill Beemer in 2001; and her only brother, Patrick Wood, in 1967.

Delores Jean Scarborough | d. April 3, 2008

Delores Jean Scarborough, 61, of Odessa, Missouri passed away on April 3, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, MO. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday, April 7, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to provide for her grandchildren’s college education. Checks may be payable to the Jean Scarborough Education Fund % Blue Ridge Bank & Trust.

Jean was born on January 20, 1947 in Columbia, Missouri to Edward and Juanita (Morrow) Simcoe. Education was very important to her, and after she was united in marriage to Emmett Scarborough, she finished high school and graduated. In the past ten years, she had been taking college classes and was working towards her degree. She was a member of the Greenton Baptist Church of Odessa. After her children were raised, she was employed by Lafayette County as a Deputy Circuit Clerk for nine years, and then she worked at the INS as an Immigration Officer. Jean was a dedicated wife, loving mother and doting grandmother. She loved to be involved in all the activities that her children or grandchildren were doing. Soon, Jean was going to accomplish a life-time achievement of writing and publishing her own book, “Life Lines” which is a compilation of poetry she had written throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Emmett in 1999.
