Wanda Jean Byrd, Blue Springs, MO, departed this life on September 26, 2007 at her home in the company of her family. She was born July 8, 1939 in Preston, Missouri, Hickory County.
Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Oscar (Tom) Byrd; her mother, Larita Laughlin; younger sister, Margaret Sue Roberts; and an infant brother, Johnie Dale Laughlin.
Wanda’s survivors include her children, Jeannie A. Buford and husband Don of Lee’s Summit, Steven A. Byrd of Kansas City, Thomas D. (Dan) Byrd and wife Brenda of Independence; her sister, Judith Laughlin Sander and husband James; three grandsons Brandon, Chris, and Brad; one great-grand daughter, Hannah Grace; three nieces, Joy Lara, and Amy; long-time friends, Pat, JoAnn and Marie; and 6-year old family friend, Travis.
Wanda graduated from Northeast High School and attended Park University. She was baptized at Eastminister Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Missouri where she and Tom were married in 1957. Wanda loved to read and enjoyed sharing her books with family and friends. She enjoyed quilting, cooking for her family, and attending flea markets and auctions with Tom or her friend, Pat.
Wanda loved her family dearly. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother. She loved her children and grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. She was thankful for her family, her parents, her friends and neighbors.
As a volunteer, Wanda planned and directed week-long residential camp sessions for persons who were survivors of head injuries. She delighted in seeing campers excel in activities such as fishing, swimming, dancing, and art projects.
Prior to her retirement on Oct. 1, 2003, Wanda worked for 10 years as an administrative assistant at the Jackson Co Board of Services for the Developmentally Disabled.
Wanda asked that a special mention be made of her gratitude for all the support, help and love given to her by her children Dan and wife Brenda, Steve, Jeannine and Don; and her sister Judy during the years she lived with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. The family sends thanks to doctors and nursing staff at the KC Cancer Center-East office, especially Dr. R. Talley and Brenda, Nurse Practitioner; Dr. Roys and Tony at Centerpoint Radiology Dept and to John Knox Hospice.
The family suggests contributions to Calvary Baptist Church, Fun Crafts Friends, 1915 N. Liberty, Independence, MO 64055. This group makes small pillows and other items for the comfort of persons with cancer or other illnesses.
A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at Meyers Funeral Chapel—visitation from 1-2 PM on Saturday September 29, 2007, followed by the service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Blue Springs Cemetery.
Harold Edward Turner, Sr., 78, of Independence, Missouri passed away on September 25, 2007 at his home, surrounded by the family that he loved so much. Visitation will be al Meyers Funeral Chapel, Blue Springs, MO from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with the Rosary at 7:00pm on Friday, September 28, 2007. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Independence, MO, at 10:00am, on Saturday, September 29, 2007. Interment will directly follow services at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, MO.
Harold was born on June 18, 1929 to Raymond and Martha (Murphy) Turner in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended East high school and graduated in 1946. He served his country in the U.S. Army for 18 months following WWII. Harold was a salesman and former owner/operator of Coffee Time of K.C. After retiring, he worked part time at the Trading Post in Blue Springs, MO. Harold was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He truly enjoyed spending time with his family, teasing his grandkids and fishing at Three Fingers. Harold was one of the kindest men in the world, a true gentleman and a little ornery!
He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers and one sister.
Harold is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 59 years, Irene; son, Harold Turner, Jr., of Independence, MO; daughter, Vicki Stanley and husband Jim of Blue Springs, MO; son, Frank Turner and wife Tina of Kansas City, KS; son, Steve Turner and wife Kris of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren: Joshua, Zackary, Nicholas, Matthew, and Rachel Turner, Jimmy, Mary, Daniel, Kevin, and Monica Stanley; 1 great grandson, Jimmy P. Stanley.
Dolores Gladys Hecht, 81, Blue Springs, MO passed away September 24, 2007 at her residence.
Visitation will be 2-3 pm Friday September 28, 2007 at Timothy Lutheran Church (425 NW R.D. Mize Road Blue Springs, MO 64014)
Memorial service will follow at the church at 3:00 pm.
Burial will precede the service at 11:00 am Friday at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery – Higginsville, MO.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Apple of His Eye c/o Timothy Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Hecht was born February 3, 1926 to Henry and Lucy (Cambron) Meyer in St. Louis, MO. She was a volunteer phone counselor for the 700 Club, member of Womens AGLOW, Kids on the Block disabled puppeteer. Sunday school teacher for adults at Timothy Lutheran Church and also at Chapel of the Cross in St. Louis, MO.
Preceded in death by her husband Albert.

Virginia Marie (Durand) Hoskovec, 78, Bates City ,MO passed away from kidney failure on September 25, 2007 and went on to the great casino in the sky.
Cremation
Private inurnment will follow at a later date.
Virginia was born May 17, 1929 in St. Louis, MO to Aloyious and Barbara Durand. She was co-owner and operator Sni Mills Mini Grocery and Cigarette City in Bates City, MO. for over 30 years until her retirement.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Marlene and a son Arnold “Hoss” Hoskovec, Jr.

The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Steve Gialde for his care of Virginia that gave us extra years to enjoy Mom and thanks also to his great staff at Oak Grove Medical that made all the lab tests, exams, etc. as easy for Mom as possible.
A special thanks to St. Mary’s Medical Center and the caregivers on 2-West.
Virginia was a avid reader so volumes of gratitude to the librarians of Mid-Continent Oak Grove Branch that selected Mom great mysteries to read when we ran out of ideas.
Helen I. Spellerberg, 77, of Warsaw, MO passed away on September 5, 2007 at her home. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Meyers Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will take place at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 also at the funeral home. Interment will be at Floral Hills East Cemetery following services.
Helen was born on April 27, 1930 in Eldon, MO to Buel Coleman and Letha Leona (Heldstab) Crain. Helen was a member of the Raytown Christian Church. Helen was affectionately known as the “Pie Lady” at the Blue Springs Farmers Market where she sold her homemade pies. She was united in marriage to August Spellerberg who preceded her in death in 1994.

Phylliss Marie Hegwood, 80, Blue Springs, Missouri passed away at her home September 12, 2007.

Phylliss was born January 7, 1927 in Correctionville, Iowa to Edward and Iva (Croxel) Boettger. She retired as cashier at the Blue Springs South High School cafeteria. She had previously worked at Wal Mart.
She was an avid gardener. She loved her flowers and was very knowledgeable about them. She loved her family and adored her grandchildren and playing with them. She was a great sports fan; an avid reader; and civil war enthusiast. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded death by her husband Jack in 1990 and a son Douglas in 1996.

Bailey Anne Rogers, 5, of Blue Springs, MO passed away on September 9, 2007 at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Visitation will be held from 1-3 PM on Saturday September 15, 2007 at First Bible Baptist Church (1441 SW Adams Dairy Pkwy Blue Springs, MO) with a memorial service to follow at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bailey to the Children’s Building Fund c/o First Bible Baptist.
Bailey was born on February 14, 2002 in Parsons, KS—it has been said that she was born on Valentine’s Day because she showed her love so much and was loved in return. Bailey’s personality impacted so many people that she met, whether she was horseback riding, swimming, or playing with other kids. She was a member of First Bible Baptist Church and looked forward to listening to the Praise Band practice. When certain songs would be played, she’d clap her hands and laughed--a laugh that everyone will miss. She was a beautiful girl who will be remembered for her unconditional love for everyone she met.
Bailey was preceded in death by her grandmother, Shirley Wedgewood; and an uncle, Malcolm Wong, Jr.
